MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT!š„ Our dear friend @LeonardMarsh70 will be entering the Giants Ring of Honor! šš»š„Mon. September 27th vs Dallas. You did it my friend. Congrats! #RING70IN
After 70's hit on Montana......."Report from the Montana's sideline is that "everything hurts". One of the best giant defenders, on one of the best defenses ever.
Why did the Giants take so long? Marshall is not in good health from what I have read. I hope he can still appreciate the induction.
Well, that's unwelcome news. What's going on with him?
I got this from Wikipedia:
Quote:
In 2013 Marshall was diagnosed with chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disease linked to repeated head trauma that has afflicted many former football players. Tests for the disease were performed at UCLA using newly developed technology that allowed detection in living patients for the first time. Marshall says he began to notice symptoms such as memory loss, severe headaches, and mood swings in 2006, and that his erratic behavior took a major toll on the personal relationships in his life, including his marriage.[36][37][38]
Marshall was part of a class action lawsuit against the NFL that initially resulted in a $765 million settlement, but was later amended to allow for a payout expected to exceed $1 billion.[36][39] Marshall is involved with efforts to educate the public about concussion and head trauma issues, serving as a speaker for both the Practice Like Pros[40] and Brain Unity Trust[41] organizations. He was featured in the documentary United States of Football examining the subject of concussions in the NFL and youth league football.[18] Marshall also founded the Game Plan Foundation to provide assistance for former athletes suffering from neurological disorders.[42]
In a December 2019 interview, Marshall wondered aloud whether he has been kept out of the Giants' Ring of Honor because of his outspoken advocacy. He said, āI donāt want to believe that, because I think that when you look back on the powers that be and the gentlemen that are running the team now ... I would believe these men have a lot of respect for what I did as a player, both on and off the field, within the community, and the surrounding area, and what I continue to do to support the New York football Giants. I think that yes, I have been a little outspoken about [CTE], because I feel like I have a platform which allows me to do that, and to help my brothers who canāt help themselves.ā[43]
One of the greatest 'effort' plays in Giants history. He was pretty much crawling on all fours at one point. Sadly, Mark Collins whiffed on the recovery.
I also remember the hilarious comment by Madden when they showed a shell shocked, pale, statue-like Montana on the bench. 'They just want to keep him mobile' when he meant immobile.
Iām very happy for Leonard Marshall and his family. Marshallās omission from the Giants Ring of Honor was a festering wound to any Giants or NFL fan familiar with the ugly facts of the matter. Marshall was outspoken about how the baseline the NFL applied for assessment of CTE was different for black players than it was for white players. From the article linked below,
āThe settlement agreement negotiated by the NFL required the neuropsychologist to apply the race based norms, which is to say they adjusted Marshallās results because he is black. His examination results stated very clearly, all scores below are demographically adjusted based on Mr. Marshallās age, education, gender and race.ā
Leonard Marshall was a champion and a great New York Football Giant. But as great as he was on the field, and he was among the very greatest to play for Big Blue, his integrity and courage to confront and oppose the injustice and racism of the NFL is something to truly admire and respect.
Iām happy Mara Tisch have moved to close this wound. It never should have been, but itās over now and thatās better than not and now healing can begin.
Congratulations to Leonard Marshall and his family.
to induct Homer Jones and Spider Lockhart? For many of us born in or after ā55, those were the only two players who did anything to keep fans returning each season after Allie Sherman blew up the team. Cāmon John Mara, do the right thing and honor Spider (RIP) and before Homer passesā¦
I have many enduring memories of your outstanding play and contibutions to the legendary Giants stadium chants and roars of... DEFENSE...DEFENSE...DEFENSE!!!
An all time favorite of mine... Congratulations, Leonard.
Congrats Leonard.
I'm pretty sure that would be ruffing the passer in todays NFL.
Still well deserved.

What a great hit, it wrecked Montana's body for 2 years!
He still had the ball in his hands.
Former NFL great Leonard Marshall talks about not being included in the NY Giants Ring of Honor - ( New Window )
Give it up. It ain't now and it was as clean a hit as anyone could want.
Clearly you're trolling.
You were a giant among Giants.
Your honor is well deserved.
Please excuse the Yiddish. It's in honor of the man whose love for the Giants was but one of the countless gifts he passed on to me.
He loved #70, and I know he'll be watching the ceremony, and no doubt, he'll be kvelling

I didn't realize he was 3rd all time in team sacks behind only LT and Strahan

Article on LM and NFL - ( New Window )
During the early days of COVID in spring 2020, I watched XXI again. My God, Banks was a machine. He was all over the field.
Montana still had the ball in his hands and Marshall hit him stomach to back. Even in 2022 that's a legal hit.
An all time favorite of mine... Congratulations, Leonard.
I was just gonna post that Joe will not be attending.
