NFL considering one year suspension for Deshaun Watson

Giantsfan79 : 6/17/2022 6:09 pm
Quote:
As the NFL winds down its investigation of Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson, the league is reportedly going to argue that the quarterback should receive a “significant” suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy, per The Washington Post.

A source close to the Watson’s side said that the NFL “probably” will go with a one-season suspension, per The Post. However, a different source close to the NFL’s side of the case said to be “careful” about a specific suspension length, but that the punishment will be “significant.”

He signed a contract anticipating this. Browns we’re fine structuring it this way.

Would’ve had some picks conditional too
Texans did a good job , finally , with this deal.
I think it's fair to say

It's Cleveland. That's what they do.

When the trade

was first announced my first thought was the guy on the Jets draft day blunders video when they selected O'Brien over Marino "Obviously the Browns know something the people up here don't"

lol, no they didn't, just the Browns being the Browns.

Tiki Barber had a nice monologue about this very subject today

Would be surprised, or not, on how careless the players are on this guy. Recently both Myles Garrett called it a slip up, and Jadeveon Clowney said he re-signed with CLE and would have gone to ATL if Watson went there.

Even non Browns like Darius Leonard felt it was wrong how headstrong the media was about "going at him". Like, fuck off dude.

Lol, exactly. I’m not going to call anyone out, but there were a few of the usual suspects suggesting we trade our two top 10’s this year, a first in 2023 and more to land him in a trade. And also cut a bunch of players given the fact the Giants had no cap room to sign him to some mega deal.

I don't know any athletes that well, but in my mind this reaction is because they all get massages (for example) and they all expect the masseuse (metaphorical) is a willing participant in a happy ending just because they are rich and famous athletes.

Some of the basketball groupie stuff I have read is absolutely wild. I imagine most athletes think this way and it's "the culture" and not in any way making excuses or saying it's ok, but IMO there is a lot of enablement along the way.

So, not putting words or thoughts in anyone's mouth or mind, but I wouldn't be surprised if they feel like Watson didn't really do anything wrong. Because they all do it as some level or something similar.

A move like this sounds like owner meddling. Have to think Jimmy and Dee Haslam saw what happened with Matt Stafford and thought they would follow the model.

this move just goes against anything Paul DePosdesta like

I keep it simple: man is sinful by nature and if there were never consequences then sin would abound more and more and more to the point of death & destruction. We all foul up and Watson will pay a price that hopefully grows him and (possibly) steers others on the right path.

Who are Bertrand and Russell? Maslow disagrees and he does have some credibility on this topic (IMO).

Maslow claims the primary human motivators are (in order):

Physiological (so maybe pleasure he meant food, water, etc - that which you need to live)

Security and safety (money, health)

Social (friendships, to be liked, community)

Esteem (respect - how often do you hear this in contract negotiations)

Self-actualization (opportunity to reach your potential)

What difference does it make? It would have been an awful decision to trade for him. Period. And I think he is an excellent QB.

I am somewhat surprised that they are talking about a year(they may be floating that timeframe to gain insight on public opinion). I was thinking a 4 to 6 game suspension was likely if no criminal charges were brought.
The difference is that is what the theme of this OP is....the possible

And, despite how Cleveland orchestrated their trade, it may not have been an awful decision for some teams to pursue Watson. Period also...

It was a bad trade for Cleveland. And they should have gotten rid of Mayfield 1st because he is now useless to them with almost no trade value.

And it would have been a terrible decision for the Giants to pursue him, as good as he is. There is no way his actions would be swept under the rug in NYC.
How Cleveland orchestrated it doesn't mean that's how another
Jimmy Googs : 6/18/2022 9:10 am : link
team would have. And I didn't know NYC is where people turn to in order to measure moral high ground.

Let me use a BBI favorite to summarize the decision to pursue Watson, "let's wait and see"...

Cleveland gave up fairly close to what was speculated the Texans wanted...whatever team traded for him would have given similar numbers. Cleveland's mistake was not getting rid of Mayfield 1st.

I didn't say NYC has any moral high ground - they just have more vicious, holier than thou reporters than in places like Cleveland, Charlotte and Atlanta, for example.

Obviously just my own internet judgement, but it’s pretty clear to me that this guy is a sexual predator. His alleged crimes, and they are crimes, are alleged by more than 30 individuals and indicate an obvious serial criminal compulsion. Again, just from what I read, the extensive investigation of facts and allegations and events indicate this guy is a compulsive criminal predator. If Watson were selling cars or working in a bank or a professional mechanic or anything but a rich guy I’m pretty sure he’d already be in jail. And I think he should be in jail. It’s a disgrace that the NFL allows this scumbag to soil the shield. And make no mistake, Deshaun Watson is soiling the NFL shield. A one year suspension isn’t nearly enough. This piece of trash should be out of the league altogether.
