USFL anyone like?

Less than zero interest. I don't think any of these sub-football leagues are sustainable.

The only way one of them will survive is if they become a minor league system to the NFL.

It’s a minor league of the NFL, at least that’s the way it should be viewed. There may be some guys with enough talent to get a look by NFL teams. Also there’s no audience at all at the stadium. Games look like a glorified scrimmage. Yea, it’s not quite the product they put out years ago when they had Doug Flutie, Herschel Walker and a bunch of other guys who ended up in the NFL.

Developmental league ending just before training camp, and have some of the players getting training camp invites after the very early TC cuts. If a handful of players make it to practice squads and bottom 5 opening day rosters, that would encourage more fans to watch and maybe for the NFL to say “yeah, this could work”. Maybe NFL teams wouldn’t need to carry 90-man rosters for 2 months before training camp starts.

I've tried to watch it several times, but to no avail.

I don't know most of the players, wasn't impressed by the announcers, and would probably rather watch midget mud wrestling or full contact tiddly winks.

The original USFL had appeal because they got some of the biggest stars out of college. There was serious talent in the USFL. This is not even worthy of D league.

Long enough to hear Jason Garrett on commentary say about Paxton Lynch "He has a lot of the same skillset as Josh Allen" That was enough for me.

The original USFL went after players and signed them to big money contracts in the pre-free agent era. It was the subject of antitrust conspiracy that the NFL and its toadies never talk about.

So this USFL is a different animal. It was designed to lay low and not threaten the saints in the NFL so they wouldn’t gin up another antitrust conspiracy and have its press toadies gun up opposition from credulous fans. It is content and relatively inexpensive content, for broadcasters desperate for it.

Yes, it was unbearably bad quality of on field product.

Side note, what kept my attention coming back to the game was our very own favorite Spider, Lauletta. He was terrible.... But he was much better than the other teams QB. That dude could not complete a forward pass to save his life!

The two worst teams played today, and the league announced this week that instead of going by record, they'd alter the draft order to give the winner of the game the first pick, and not just in the 1st round, but every round. Draft order in the USFL (if the league even survives to a 2023 draft) is probably not a big enough deal that this matters, but as a general approach I like it. If anyone's ever read about Gold drafting, I think that would make sense in pro leagues, and this is along those lines.
