If there is 1 player/pitcher the Mets should acquire it should be David Bednar. He has the ability to close if something happens to Diaz. He can pitch the 8th which is critical (obviously) and can go multiple innings if needed. His stuff is terrific.
lugo is definitely a major concern. he had 3 good outings in a row and had plenty of rest so it's concerning that comes in and just doesn't have it sometimes.
plummer continues to be an automatic oout (0-3 with 3 k's today, now on an 0-20 slide), escobar continues to not do much offensively, and while JDD has been doing better apparently buck doesn't think he's an every day dh. Vientos was 2-4 with a walk today and now hitting like .350 in the last month with a .700 slg%. if they don't call him up tomorrow against a lefty i have no idea what they are waiting for.
i wouldn't call tomorrow a big game but it's a game a true WS contender wins and doesnt split the series. Rogers has a near 6 era and a 1.64 whip. peterson threw a stinker last time out but the BP got basically a full day off. Ottavino got 2 days off, Shreve a few days off, plus off day thursday. win tomorrow then split houston.
We all felt uneasy when he was going back out. But then leaving him in after that bloop grounder single. And Ligo is the new Familia.
On a side note Mets sorely need a shut-down LH reliever.
Parking at that place is an utter disaster. After being able to see MetLife at 1250 from the car I was finally able to get to my seat by the middle of the 5th inning, which was just to see lugo get shelled. What a waste of an afternoon.

So you were in East Rutherford at 12:50 and got to Flushing by the 5th inning? Not bad.
Bhill in all seriousness I know what you mean. I went Friday night and leaving the game was a disaster for us. They block exits and force traffic and everyone leaving to one exit. I come from Staten Island - I may drive and take public transit next time.
The mass transit with two kids coming from NJ is pretty dicey. A couple of train switches but more of an issue is trying to keep them close with the rush of humanity to get on the post game train. That said it would have been better than driving there yesterday.
I think he wont ever be that guy again until he gets surgery and unfortunately the previous regime didn't allow that to happen.
Bullpen is the biggest need IMO at the trade deadline.
I think that was brought on by BVW's desperation move of putting Lugo in the rotation.
Never been the same since
That was at least partially on Lugo, he was a starter his whole life until pro ball, and expressed his desire was to start even after he had major league success as a reliever.
Of course having a partially torn labrum or whatever it was should have influenced the decision, but pinning it all on BVW or the Mets isn't fair or accurate.
not labrum (shoulder, death sentence for any pitcher), it's partially torn UCL (TJ surgery repair)...
Guys can certainly pitch with it as he has, but indeed I think the desires aligned when:
1) Mets needed a starter
2) He always wanted to start because $$ for a #3/4 starter coming off his first contract is way way more than an elite middle relief pitcher
Unfortunate that he hasn't been the same since the injury and that move.
There are some nights where he is just as nasty...but his velo is so strangely erratic. One day his fastball is 97/98 and he is same as he was... the next (like yesterday) its 92/93. When its 93, his mistakes get hit hard, when its 97, they don't.
but imo they are completely ignoring the obvious in not promoting him. recall Alonso too started k'ing a lot at AAA when he was simply better than the level. on the year Vientos has hit a lot of GBs though there's no way to publicly sort the bad start from the last month when he's hitting .322 with a .700 slg%. I don't care how many k's/gbs a guy hits if he can sustain a 1.000 ops.
Palka is 30 years old and in the MLB time he's received he k'd 35% of the time on a .218 ba. that was all pre-pandemic but he hasn't appeared to take his game to a new level since. this is like wasting at bats on eric campbell when pete alonso is an option to call up.
the only thing that makes sense as to why they've kept plummer up this long and called up palka > vientos is that they want someone capable of playing RF, but that too seems misguided. play mcneil in LF and Nimmo in RF with Canha in CF if they don't think Canha can play RF. Escobar or Guillorme can play 2b until there's an extra OF ready for the bench. Maybe give JDD some fly balls in right, he has the arm for it.

Good luck to anyone going to the game today. I live 35/40 minutes away and it’s going to take me almost 2 hours. Long Island fucking sucks. I can’t wait to leave this overcrowded, overpriced dump of an island.

Seems like his first son is doing well and his second will arrive in a couple of days.
So it's not that.
Also has a small section about how well Dom is doing in AAA.

His OPS is 5th in the Eastern League.

I was thinking the same thing. It seemed like such an obvious move to take him out after six and 90+ pitches

same since he "rehabbed" a elbow issue.
