Cole vs. McClanahan
The Yanks have room to talk??? Haha
Rays bottom 3 = .177 batting average
Both DJ and Judge tattoed the ball, but right at fielders.
Rizzo really taking this team on his back. Hoping Cole can dial it up tonight.

If he keeps throwing strikes like he did in the 2nd inning. Stuff looks good tonight.
McClanahan is a stud.

hard in the 1st, McClanahan is looking good too.

Stop looking for FB and look for the change. He's throwing 2 or 3 changes to each FB. And a lot are over the middle of the plate.
No mention of Britton, Chapman, Green, or Loaisiga.
No team in the history of sports has ever had things as bad as the Rays. 🙄

Rays announcers = worst in all of sport. I'm stuck watching an online stream.
Marvin Gonzalez sucks, by the way. Why is this guy playing every day?

… how many injuries they've had in their bullpen.

IKF hammy is sore
No, Donaldson is pretty slow and Phillips managed to deflect it right to the LF. Donaldson came out of the box pretty hard on the replay - I thought the same originally.
Rays homer announcers make no mention of that. Instead, they go on & on mocking the fans for booing the ump's ball/strike calls that lead to a walk. ("Heh heh...I guess anything Treviño catches in the air is a strike, right fans? Heh heh"). Hey jackass, this is a Rays home game.

Haha, I thought the same thing and I’ll even put German on the Yanks list. I’d say we’ve been hit by injuries in the pen just as hard if not harder than the Rays but not a peep out of them about it.
his arbitration is going ahead Wednesday.
These are some insanely low strikes. brutal.
Choi pulled off the bag? 2-0

Worst I have seen him this year. Trying to pull outside pitches.

What is he worried about? Players almost always get the higher number. No way he doesn't get the $22 mill.
Great night by Cole. Now lock down this W
Needs to get Margot.
Needs to get Margot.
He got him but the 1B ump didn’t agree.
They are the all-time heavyweight champs of cheap runs. They never hit a goddamned ball hard. Hate them so much.

Well except for Meija...
He just lost the zone. He was pretty good through 7...
Is Hicks starting to not suck quite as much? He’s had some big hits recently
Neither Holmes nor Peralta had shit tonight. Wandy throwing a lot of FB vs his change. Soem real guts on Peralta's part.
Too bad Cole did not get the win and Holmes did.
Yeah, he be very slow. He even misread the ball of the wall.
yes he's good.
no if they can just get rid of "Lucy" Waldman
Quote:
Donaldson might even run slower than Stanton. In the 9th inning, he should have been in the dugout by the time that ball was tracked down rolling through the outfield and then relayed home.
Yeah, he be very slow. He even misread the ball of the wall.
He is and I disagree with you on that hit earlier in the game. He had to be in 2nd there. That ball was in the gap and booted by the cf. I know it kicked right to Lowe(big shocker for the horseshoe up their ass Rays) however he easily has to be on 2nd there.
.321 BA, 147 wRC+, .410 OBP, .844 OPS in 61 PA's.
Spooky 8th/9th innings last night, but the job got done. The 2021 team absolutely loses that game, no question.

He was pretty good in April, then hideously awful in May, and now he's having a very good June. Only 5 XBH on the year, but three of them came in the last ten games. Hopefully this is the player he'll be for the rest of the year.

Yup, thought that of Hicks last night. He's been hitting lately, and in some big spots.
It's hard to be patient as fans, but there's something to be said for guys when their healthy and find their groove over 100 ABs or so. Hope he keeps it up

Yep including 2 game winning hits the past 3 games and a great job Sunday coming through against a tough Romano to get Rizzo an ab in the 9th Sunday.

I know Hicks has been a major whipping boy, but he's actually been really good this month.

Yep, his May was truly horrendous. So horrid that it totally erased the fact that he was, indeed good in April like you said.
If we're going to get this version or something close the rest of the way, that is good enough for this team.
Rizzo is another one. Monster April, horrendous May, and now he's slugging the shit out of the ball again in June.
IKF is another guy who had a truly awful May, but has been better in June.
Gallo as well.

Just looked up AJ's stats - just what I thought. Last two weeks he's down, with the last week horrendous. He needs a day or two off. Hicks' improvement will let that happen.
Different hitting hero(s) each night. That is how they keep the pace up. It is extremely rare for player(s) to stay torrid all year. There is the inevitable slump a couple times per season they need to work through.
This team is impressive in its resiliency.
Holmes with a rare run given up, some bad luck for him.
They have a propensity to make games interesting in that stadium over the years for some reason. This version of the Rays is not as good as past versions, especially when they have 3 regulars (Lowe, Franco & Zunino) out of the lineup.
Yanks found a way to get it done, not buying on Hicks.
Yep, game winning hit, but also 0-3 with RISP since that
3 run double in Toronto. That also includes a strikeout along with Donaldson, with a man on third with less than 2 out.
Hicks or Gallo should be batting 9th in the lineup, period.
Peralta with his Chapman impression, but he survived.

Oddly enough, we've had a few players who have followed this same season arc.

People should take a look at Stanton's numbers since coming off the IL, that is who looks bad at the moment,
very streaky hitter.

Yep, Judge absolutely needs a day - get him off that turf tonight and either DH him or just give him the night off entirely. He's hit a little tiny slide.. which is normal, he wasn't going to sustain what he was doing for 162.
But you hit the nail on the head and it's the hallmark of a great team. A new hero every night. Not needing one or two guys to carry it. We're getting excellent starts almost every single night from our SP's.
This team has shown that they can win with pitching and defense, they can win by outslugging teams, they can win with timely hits...
All really encouraging signs and the reasons why this team is legit and will continue to win games at a pretty hefty clip.

That's what makes this team a GREAT one. They don't NEED their stars to produce like stars every day.
Look at the month of May that Rizzo had. Look at Hicks April and May- same for Gallo. They were AWFUL, beyond bad.
At the same time, Judge and Stanton stepped up in April and May (though admittedly, Stanton's April was only average). That allowed them to continue marching on.
Now that Rizzo and Hicks (look at the numbers, he's having an outstanding June) are reaching new heights, Stanton is stepping back.
But it hasn't been just them- the smaller names have made BIG contributions as well.
People might not have noticed, but after a very slow April, Trevino has OPSd .808 in May and over .950 in June.
IKF had a bad May, but had very good April and June OBP and BA numbers. His OPS will never be very high because he has no power, but even with that, its been a respectable .770 OPS in June- even with no HR.
That's the beauty of this team- when one or several players are slumping, several others step up to fill the gap until the others get hot again.
I hope this is tongue in cheek- because this is nowhere near true.
Cashman masterclass.
I’ll take Posada at the plate over Butch every day, especially in the playoffs.
