Marte is leading Mets OFer! Nimmo isn't even in the top 10. Mets need to do a better job marketing that guy...literally the best on-field role model for any kid playing baseball.
For draft at this moment I'd go Crawford/Lesko if possible.
Bye Jacob it was nice.

?? Is there some news we are missing?
Weird post.
Yesterday was his bday and there is footage of him out there working out on the field. No new news, just what has already been said here.
As far as not rushing him, I agree... but also no need to waste bullets in AA or AAA if he can give you 5 innings/75 pitches towards back end of a rehab.
if it's going to cost them a big prospect to get a reliever, i'd actually probably bet that they trade for a SP right now. kind of like the LAD did last year adding both Scherzer/Turner in a big deal. something like:
Mauricio, Dom, another piece (Peterson or Megill maybe?)
for
Montas or Mahle or Castillo
and a back end reliever
all 3 SP have an arb year next year so also hedge if JDG or Bassitt move on.
100% agree.
Minor + Castillo fully paid for by Cohen saves the Reds 7 or 8m the rest of the year assuming the season is a little over half over at the time of the trade. Mahle saves Reds about $1m less.

Relievers, yeah. I can't help but think I wouldn't mind another bat though to really push a strength.

i think i just talked myself into thinking they are going to add 1 of the reds/oak top of rotation SP.
if they do, they have 1 of them plus Scherzer, Bassitt, Carrasco, and JDG if he gets back. Maybe Walker moves to BP as his innings start going up. And obviously you can afford at least 1 injury (or setback to JDG). And it gets them a jump on replacing whoever leaves in the offseason among Bassitt, Walker, JDG.
i think they will get another piece back in that deal whether it's a RP or an extra fringe bat, but i dont see them giving up a top prospect like Mauricio for a hitter or reliever on their own.
yeah very strange inclusion on that list in general.
He makes it sound like Freeland away from Coors is "much" better. His road FIP career is 4.35, with a 4.66 xFIP, at home 4.67/4.43

Which makes me want to ask what you forsee happening at the deal deadline.

I'm a little nervous about this lineup being able to play like they want to play once they're facing consistently good starting pitching. They'll rake through the regular season but I'm not sure about their odds facing top-level arms.
Watching how they hit against Burnes, then Alcantara got me thinking.
i actually think their lineup is one that's kind of built for the playoffs 1-5 so i feel pretty good about it. the issue is 7-9. Escobar, DH, C.
Not much to do about C and who knows, maybe Alvarez gets up this year.
Not gonna make a big move at 3b with Vientos/Baty so close.
So it's really just finding someone to give them another DH option along with Vientos/JDD/Dom. Ideally a lefty who is RF capable. If Seattle wants to dump Winker I'd be in on that.
Bowden has Castillo #1, I'd take Montas over Castillo personally. He averages nearly 6 innings per start and has less tread on his tires. I wouldn't argue hard for Montas over Castillo or vice versa.
Mahle behind those 2 BUT Mahle #1 likely costs less but #2 likely costs less with the same upside (if not slightly greater). Mahle has a 3.29 FIP 10.37 K/9 and might have the best pure stuff of the trio. If you told me Mahle would cost less talent wise he would be my pick, if it were head to head to head Montas by a nose but all 3 would be very nice additions (not the worst thing to have an eye towards 2023's roster if it makes sense)

Seattle just signed Winker to a 2 year deal. They may still deal him but it seems unlikely they did this in order to trade him. Sure, a trading team might see the cost certainty in his 2023 salary but it feels like Seattle would have just dealt him vs. giving guaranteed money if that were their plan.
183 wRC+ vs. lefties this season
"What a bizarre season it’s been for Christian Walker. His power has fully rebounded and has taken another step up, but his BABIP has plummeted to just .180! Sure, he’s become an extreme fly ball hitter and hasn’t hit enough line drives, but surely he deserves better than this. Remember, Statcast accounts for his batted ball types and still thinks he should be hitting .275. When you pair that with his power, you’re suddenly left with a top first baseman! His surrounding offense is slowing down his runs scored and RBI counts, but with a rebound in batting average, he could be one of the better ones the rest of the way."

but looking at the braves last year, i think you might be able to find that player as close to a salary dump. and it could be vientos or dom.

interesting was that an arb case that was dragging into the season like bassitt or did they just guarantee next year? it would definitely be selling low and an abnormal move ahead of a trade but it is dipoto.
i wonder if they did it just to take some pressure off him in the 2nd half since he's had such a bad year for him to this point?
it looks like he was still in arbitration with them for this year just like Bassitt so guaranteeing the 2nd year was part of the arb settlement. very unique situation bc of the lockout.

Seems unlikely, if he continued this badly they likely would have considered non-tendering him vs. paying him a guaranteed 8.25 million next year. He's been that bad. .626 OPS 0 fWAR

it's all good dom is back!
Never seen him, but asked someone who has. Apparently he’s got an odd full effort motion, that makes his off speed touch to read. Based on that, I’d ignore anything till at least AA lol

Layonel Ovalles last 5.2 innings pitched...16 k's, not a typo. I've never seen him mentioned by ANYBODY before, in any capacity and his numbers last season were only "okay" so I'm guessing his stuff isn't great but who knows?

Thanks Shecky,
I’ve done some deep dives on the Mets system this year with all sorts of people writers, bloggers, people in the know, a scout, a few minor leaguers and not once was he even mentioned so I assumed he wasn’t a “stuff” guy
We call my sister in law smoky troll because she looks like one of those erasers u put on your pencils in high school ( with the crazy hair) and she basically injests cigarettes
