Rob Gronkowski announced he was going to retire from the NFL after a stellar career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New England Patriots. Gronkowski told sports journalist Jordan Schultz the news and announced on Instagram he was going to walk away... |
Just seems weird that Brady came back to Tampa for one more run when they appear to be somewhat on the way down. No more Antonio Brown or Gronk. The other WR is coming off a bad injury and the HC stepped down. Meanwhile Miami looks to be on the way up, just added a game-breaking WR to compliment Waddle and they appear to need a QB.
It's a reach I know.

Add in that Stephen Ross has been infatuated with Brady. I don't think it will happen, but it's not crazy either.

I think he came back to Tampa because the NFC is looking extremely weak and even a weaker Bucs team could potentially make the Superbowl. Too good a shot for Brady to pass up.
Yes, he will be back around week 10 if the Bucs are serious contenders, which they will be in that division.
When you see replays it was like whoa that seemed muck closer than real time.
If I’m remembering correctly Gronk was dancing away that night.
Brady or Gronkoski? We all know all the veterans who had a successful career announce their retirement at this time of the year and then sign a deal with a team after Training Camp ends - Hell, I think even Strahan did it one year?
They do not want to tolerate TC.
He never retired.
Not even close to Bavaro.
But this feels like a 50/50 retirement due to Brady being almost a cult leader like figure in his eyes, atleast from what I can see.
Genuinely interested in his post-NFL career if this is truly the end. Somehow someway it feels like he’ll succeed regardless of the endeavor. Unless it’s announcing, that would be a train wreck.
I hope he doesn't go into broadcasting, as I think he'd be a disaster. But he seems like a good dude & am too curious as to what his next act is.
He never retired.
Yeah ... but, I think we are talking semantics here? Unless there are some rules that I am unaware of that prevents players from retiring and then un-retiring in the same season?
Hell, as I am typing this I am also thinking of Brett Farvre. Didn't he retire like 3 times?
I am not sure if any of the players that I mentioned actually technically retired or it was all lip-service. I am sure there has to be paperwork to be signed and until that is done - nothing is official no matter how "adamant" they sound?
I'll never forget his call to the police after his house was robbed after the Super Bowl.

Um in terms of what? Gronk is the best TE to ever play.
This morning NFLN is Gronk TV…
Gronk and Tom blah blah blah blah blah…we know their accomplishments.
Will it ever end?
Now get off my lawn…I have cats to kick

My wife almost did a video shoot with him. Didn't work out because his availability was slim and there were other commitments on my wife's end. She had good things to say about him/his team, but its clear the guy is constantly busy so I have no doubt he will be successful outside of football - he already is.
Same. Devastating in the pass game and blocked like a left tackle in the run game. The prototype of what a TE should be.

Imagine of the Hernandez stuff didn't happen and those 2 were able to continue playing together. That 2011 offense was just nasty with those two + Welker and that was just their Sophomore seasons.
Neither one was as tough as Mark Bavaro, though. He's still my favorite Giant.
Gates, Gonzalez, Gronk are firmly ahead and its possible with another top en year or two, Kelce hops Witten too (I'd argue he's already better).
Give me the Sharpe brothers or Gates

You know what? I really don't care what you think. I have my opinion, you have yours, and that's that.

?? Summer heat getting to some...
Witten's a first ballot lock as well, right?
One of my favorite all-time non-Giants...
I'm with little Bill, come on he didn't have to block Reggie White, LT and Banks like Bavaro.
It is a brutal position. When Parcells drafted Witten he told him he a "formula" for the position as he already had Francis, Bavaro, Coates.
Witten waited but never received the formula until he broke his jaw. Parcells told him I had this guy Bavaro who had a jaw problem. He missed one game. Witten played after one week after learning the formula. I don't think he ever missed another.
Parcells always said the great ones find a way to be dependable and available.
That being said, I don't think it's particularly close between him and Gronk. He was never on Gronk's level at his best. The longevity factor is a big one for sure, but Gronk was simply better when he was healthy by enough of a margin that it's still an easy choice for me.
