are two players I would keep my eye on. Both rentals that should be able to be traded for without giving up top prospects. Josh Bell is no JD Martinez but he's been very good in the last three full seasons he's played and would be a nice vet bat to add at DH for the postseason.
Fulmer is having a great season as a reliever. Nuff said.
Even if deGrom doesnt make it back this year at all
Im still not trading for a starting pitcher at the deadline.
Our postseason rotation would be Scherzer, Bassitt, Carrasco, and Walker with Megill in the pen. That's certainly not as stellar as it would be with Jake, but who are we trading for that cracks that top 4? We would have to trade a ton of prospects and it barely moves the needle for us even if you can find a #2 or #3 out there.
I also dont care about the rotation "down the stretch". With the expanded postseason, this team is making the playoffs. How we line up in the postseason is all that matters.
i mostly agree but i wouldn't close off any way of improving
the dodgers didn't need trea turner last year but they had an opportunity so they took it - and it helped them get within a couple games of knocking out the eventual WS champ and hedged Seager hitting FA.
i'd mostly be looking to value shop for depth like the Braves did last year but if 1 of the top 3 starters that also have an arb year remaining are avail, im not letting another team get better cheaply. make them give up something better than Mauricio+.

Z. I’d rather have a lefty reliever
But agree. Fulmer having a nice season
It kills me we didn’t resign Loupe
at the moment Loup is sitting on a 4.5 era and a HR rate that went
back to his career norm (9-10%) compared to last year when it was a minuscule 2.7%. he only gave up 6 earned runs last year and he's already at 12 this year.
so he may not have been the answer even though it was inexcusable to not add someone else like mchugh (who has been solid for ATL).

Reports as of now are that all went well. Getting close to rehab assignment.
Moze...that was me on the Minor league thread just voicing frustration with Jake....the opt-out threat from someone with his injury history was just aggravating

Did he say it again recently? I couldn't find anything. Not sure why frustration right now when all he is trying to do is get back healthy and resume his place as top 2 pitcher in Mets history.
horrid at-bat for Escobar. Bases loaded and you spit on a first pitch fastball right down the middle. He struck out on a curveball he missed by a foot. And J.D. continues to chase high heat even though he can't hit it. Bottom third of the lineup worries me.

Honestly, how much more rope do they give Escobar?
He’s horrible. Gives us nothing and his defense isn’t great either. Their are some glaring holes in this lineup that need to be addressed pretty quickly.
randomly looked up adam oller (part of the bassitt trade)
we are down by 3 or more runs, Buck definitely goes to the bottom of the barrel to get guys work. It's like he concedes the game and saves his better relievers for the next day.
RE: RE: Lol, Shreve has also been dogshit for a while. This team needs
It's baseball...you lose 60 and win 60 and it's what you do with the other 42 that matter...so can't get all worked up over a loss to a great team...you turn the page and go to the next one.
Also love the Escobar hate... Dude just had 3 RBIs the last game then hit a HR today..
Where is all the praise from you guys when they win?
Lol, there’s always one that loves being the contrarian
There’s been plenty of praise for players this season. But Escobar suuuuucks. As does his .228 BA and .674 SLG. It’s cute that you wait until his solo HR in a blowout to puff your chest.
And for what it’s worth, who’s crying about the loss?

Lol ok man.. I wasn't even looking at the thread until my other post..
I guess maybe I'll add that people ripping on JD are silly too..dude has been hitting the cover off the ball all year, often into bad luck. Gary even acknowledged Buck was rewarding him with this game for how well he has played...
I think you'll find I'm pretty consistent here
This team can and WILL improve... But no use acting like sky is falling when they lose a game
And just so I understand, as long as they are winning, there’s nothing to criticize. Do I have that right? Nothing to really improve on because…I mean…they have the best record in the NL?
Just want to make sure I have the moze-rules down correctly.

Yeah winning cures all. If they end up as 1 seed in the NL, hard to criticize.
But I don't think I made any comments that complaints re: back half of the bullpen being bad were unwarranted. (Although the same could be said for almost every team in baseball)
But complaints about Escobar coming off a 3 RBI game just seemed ill-timed, knee-jerk because the team was losing a game in June... as were complaints about JD Davis when the manager literally decided to play him because of how well he is hitting the ball.

“If they end up as 1 seed in the NL” - again, we’ve played only 70 games. Lots of baseball left and everyone else sees the glaring holes we have. One good game by Escobar two days ago doesn’t seem to be fooling anyone else and it’s a weird hill to die on. We all know what he’s been…and that’s a bad baseball player.
Same with JD Davis. For a DH, he hasn’t been good. I really don’t care how hard he’s hitting the ball or any other talking point you want to take from Buck. He’s poor defensively and at career lows with his offense. They are an issue in the lineup - it’s okay to recognize that.
Yes, if they end up the number one seed then it will be hard to criticize. But we are a looong way from that and good teams make adjustments during the season to help get them there. They don’t just sit back and say “well, we do have the best record in the NL” before mid-season and do nothing.
It’s okay to discuss, and dare I say - complain - about the big holes they need to fix to STAY on top. But I’m sure Escobar and Davis appreciate your support.
Anyway, we don’t need to continue to go back and forth on this
I’m happy the Mets are leading their division up to this point, sucks they lost yesterday and I hope they are able to address the big holes in their lineup and pitching staff. Overall, it’s been an enjoyable season, so let’s keep that going.

Max can be hard on a catcher. Not right situation for the kid, and certainly want Max focused on the bump in a rehab start.

And they should call him up to AAA. Not sure what else is there for him to figure out in AA.

i understand why they didnt but im also sure he would have learned some things.
And, the Mets need a real DH. JD is 30, one dinger this year, and can't seem to catch up to a heater.
Without McNeil this is a different lineup (kind of a no brainer to say!)

I mean...they can improve but they are best team in the NL..
Taking a loss tonight ..no big deal. Win tomorrow and that's all we need out of 2 against the Astros.

a lot of help if they plan to do anything.

Got it, glad you are cool with what you see. I guess you have the division already locked up after 70 games. Makes sense.
Lol, and I particularly love how you view tomorrow’s game as a gimme. Good stuff. More power to you.
