Carrasco's average fastball velo was down 1.3 mph today.

any deadline rental that doesn't result in playoffs "didn't work out" and I (nor anyone else i've seen) has ever argued that the deal "worked out". nobody makes a deal when they are in first place with the hopes of ending up 3rd. that's a pretty black and white failure.
if i had wanted to trade alonso in favor of keeping dom i don't think i'd be so bold in my gotchas, or worry about them at all, but i guess that's just me.
lol, annual gotcha fail? it's one trade and you maintained even this year after the Mets didn't re-sign Baez how it was a good move that you support then and now. Then you pivoted to PCA is all-glove and not a prospect to care about losing.
My only point is Sandy has now agreed it didn't work out, yet last time it came up you were still clinging to it making sense both at the time and not being a "bad trade" even now.
just say you were wrong. it is a freeing feeling.
I was wrong to care so much about losing Kelenic, I admit it, but I also tend to be a prospect hugger so it takes me a while to get there (admitting I was wrong). But in the Baez trade I (and many) have been consistent it was a bad trade and indicated an incongruent level of investment based on the state of the team, the risk of missing the playoffs, and the risk of not re-signing the player.
i still have no problem with the trade but that's not the same thing as saying it "worked out". you are attributing something to me that i've never said so maybe hold off on your masterclass on altruism?

NEWS: According to @ragazzoreport
, Jacob deGrom threw live batting practice yesterday in Port St. Lucie and looked very sharp.
The expectation is that he’ll throw one more live BP this weekend. Then, he’ll begin his rehab assignment. #LGM
Escobar - 2/17, 7 ks
Plummer - 0/7, 5 ks
dom - 1/3, 1 k.
very hard to win with offensive positions so non-competitive. Escobar bases loaded 2 days in row, Dom today. Every player after Alonso in the batting order today has a slg% under .400.
predicting pitchers health is a crapshoot but you need good ones so not sure what anyone can do except get as many as you can afford.
I get it, Eric. I’m just saying that the Mets were probably in a worse position pitcher-healthwise than most other teams. I don’t think that’s going out on a limb there. But if was a big off-season subject.
Regarding Carrasco, he was off from the first pitch of the game. You have to think that he was already hurting before the game started and didn’t say anything, right? Which is frustrating because I can’t believe that they would throw him out there if they knew he was injured.
I could easily be wrong here. But they’ve been extremely careful not to put a date on anything with him all along. So I’d be very surprised if this is true.
I’m assuming it’s someone calculating the five days from rehab on out as opposed to someone inside with an actual date.
Goes without saying but on the same token the Vientos stuff is 100% me just reading the box score, seeing he didn't pinch hit, I wasn't "told" anything by anybody.
even if they didn't have a big prospect at AAA they'd have to consider giving him some time off for someone else. with mcneil out they don't have too many alternatives.

What about Luis? When McNeil comes back, can’t we have Luis play third and plant Escobar on the bench? He’s a black hole in this lineup.
much appreciated difference from rushing carrasco back without any rehab starts last year.

Buck Showalter on Scherzer: "Max knows we want him to pitch for us the rest of the season. Just because we’re having some challenges with some of the health of our starters, it shouldn’t affect at all his timetable."

I could be wrong, but that's how I took that quote post-game. How much "quicker" could he possibly be back? It's not like Carrasco being hurt meant Scherzer might be back SOONER than Sunday and I agree, better Scherzer 100% than not.
i know szpuck was awful when he came up but he's had a few decent starts since going down and if he's the only alternative giving him another shot isn't like eickhoff (who just got promoted to pitt the other day, which is a pretty good indicator on the awful state of SP in general).
@stluciemets
has 1 hit through 7 innings... yet lead 2-1 Jeffrey Colon with 5.2 strong 5 hits 1 run 0 walks 5 k's. Ramirez/Consuegra/Dominguez/Tillien/Lugo a combined 0-12 (they do have 5 walks between them)
Those were tough conditions for any lefty. Puck clearly was rattled
So I expect a much better start from him next time

idk he may simply not be a big league level player, some guys arent especially after all the injuries he's been through, but giving him a second shot in a pinch is just in a very different category than a journeyman like eickhoff getting shellacked in multiple turns through a rotation.

I was at Giants stadium for that game. There was a very stiff bay wind blowing from right diagonally across the field and out to left

Lost in the Scherzer start at Bing, was that Jose Butto got knocked around and gave up 6 hits and 5 runs in 2 innings. Easily his worst appearance of the year... possibly a result of it also being his only time appearing in relief... but this was a bit discouraging because he very well may have been a next man up candidate given how well he's pitched and that he is on the 40 man.
