NFT: Traeger pellet substitute?

Bill in UT : 6/22/2022 4:28 pm
Someone mentioned a cheaper substitute for Traeger smoker pellets a couple of weeks ago. Anyone using off-brand in their Traeger smokers? Time for me to buy a bag. TIA
I've used

Bear Mountain and had pretty good luck.

I like camp chef products and they have a discounted bag right now of competition pellets…

The reason it took so long is…

I was redirected….

To a spam ad 3 times before I could post. I’ve donated in the past a lot of spare money. Let’s figure out a better way to pay the bills so this site can stay as pure as Joe Judge’s play calling
I’ve used bear mountain, Weber and lumberjack pellets

I guess I haven’t notice much difference in quality but people swear by lumberjack and you can get them at dicks sporting goods

Don't blame the site, I put you on my "ignore" list.

I just bought 20 lb traeger pellets on amazon for $18 per bag with free shipping.
I'm a Lumberjack pellet fan

One of the few out there that does not use sawdust to make them. I am a fan of a more intense smoke flavor (one of the issues with pellet smokers) and these give me the best results

The ones from Sams are pretty decent...I have a GMG not a traeger.
So far, on Amazon, I see

Traeger for $19, Camp Chef for $13 and Lumberjack for $32, all for 20 pound bags.

I'm sponsored by them but I do love their products. I use their Lump charcoal and pellets and always satisfied with the smoke.

Been my go to. Just bought the Costco pellets, and I’m liking them thus far. Looking like my new go to

Lumberjack for me as well

My local Costco doesn’t have pellets that I know of
I have always used BBQR's Delight Pellets.

They were the brand recommended, and sold by the people I bought my Yoder from. I do like them. Recently I tried Knotty Wood Almond pellets, and liked them as well. Both seem to burn cleaner than the Traeger, and Lumberjack pellets, but it could just be my imaginations, as I haven't used either of those that often. I will be trying out the above mentioned Jealous Devil soon, looks like it's free shipping over 50 bucks or so, so I'll be checking them out. I feel like pellets could always offer more smoke flavor.
Costco has a 40lb KS bag for ~15

So far, quality and flavor are good and by far the cheapest in store pellets (by unit cost) I’ve found

Bear Mountain and Camp Chef pellets have worked well for me too.

I'm going to Costco Friday. I'll take a look around.
I'll also add that I recently saw Kingsford pellets

at a Lowe's: Garlic, Onion Paprika flavor in a hickory blend. I didn't feel like trying, seemed a little suspect... but intriguing.

Has anyone tried?
