PFF "steals" of the 2022 NFL draft ...

Manny in CA : 6/22/2022 5:59 pm

https://www.pff.com/news/draft-2022-nfl-draft-the-biggest-steals-of-all-3-days

The Giants scored big with both Thibodeaux and Neal mentioned often as likely #1 - overall.

My biggest personal disappointment was not taking QB Malik Willis, who went to the Titans at 86th over-all. He very well has a very good chance of being THE steal of the decade, if the plays up to his potential.

The other one is Minnesota OT Daneil Faalele (4th round to the Ravens). The man is huge, (6'8", 384), with ballerina feet.

I thought this about Wirfs, and I think it about Neal. By mid-season his rookie year people will think he’s an All Pro candidate. I think he’ll be the talk of the year for this team.
It's almost as if legendary Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome never left ..

Agree about Neal ....
Manny in CA : 6/22/2022 6:17 pm : link

I think he's going to play with "a chip on his shoulder". I read somewhere (can't find the article), where he thinks he should have gone #1 over-all. I seem to recall his dad also thinks so.

I wouldn't want to be the NFL lineman across the L.O.S. from him.

Just saw Neal on Instagram working out with

Duke Manyweather... and OMFG Neal looks like a fucking monster even among other OL. The young dude just looks like every bit of 6"8 & 340lbs with solid muscle. He is going to be on the Wirfs/Slater tier (two guys I was super high on pre draft, just saying)

I have no idea and I did not read the article yet, but isn't it kind of hard to call the 5th or 7th overall pick the steal of the draft?

Only 4 or 6 players were taken ahead of them.

SFGFNCGiantsFan : 6/22/2022 6:44 pm : link
I thought the same. Isn't a steal like drafting Armstead in the 8th round in '93?
Manny - Does “ballerina feet” mean he has very tiny feet and
Ivan15 : 6/22/2022 6:46 pm : link
Pointy toes?
Don't care ....
Manny in CA : 6/22/2022 7:36 pm : link

I don't care if his feet look like this ...

As long as long as he's light on them.

The article is about steals on each day, and the Giants got a shout out later down on the list for grabbing 2 players who could have gone higher.

Yes, it's a misplaced thing to stay. You can't be a "steal" when you're top 10 and play great.
The stars aligned perfectly ....
Manny in CA : 6/22/2022 11:34 pm : link
For the Giants to snag Neal at #7.

Pj - that was my initial reaction also but, I think Manny was calling those 2 players "Scores". You are right - how could any 1st round pick be considered a steal?

I think he starts with Malik Willis and Daniel Faalele when applying the "steals" classification?

OOPS ... Sorry PJ. When Manny did not use quotes I thought they were his words in the OP.

Either that reporter does not know the definition of the word steal ... or I don't.

How do you call any top 10 pick a "steal"? Sauce Gardener was a steal?

IMO, a "steal" would be something (or someone in this situation) that had 1st round grades and was drafted in the 5th round, the 6th round, etc .... High value for a minimum investment. Gardener was drafted 4th in the 1st round!!! for chrissakes!

How is that a [i][b]"steal"[[i/b] ..... in anybody's book?

sorry about the mess up on the BBCoding everyone ...
When we write this article in four years will it say....
SGMen : 6/23/2022 5:24 am : link
Thibs, Neal, Robinson were "steals" for us? That they should have gone #1, #2 and 1st round? Lets hope that is the case but until then these articles are simply speculation for fun. I do however enjoy the conjecture.

We need this draft to be foundational to our future and that requires probowl players who own games at Pass Rusher, Offensive Tackle (both spots), and WR in a pass happy league.

Can you imagine if by mid-season Toney and Robinson create matchup problems no one could have imagined due to their unique quickness and skill sets?

Then we have the OG Ezeudu who is versatile in skills. Can he become a probowler at a position at some point? McFadden a solid LB. Etc.

When you have a draft that produces 4 or more starters of merit it is very unique and this one on paper has that potential.

I've said this a few times but can we finally catch a break and win an early cheap game or two with the new coaches during the learning curve period (four games) and when we put it together be in the thick of things til December. Is 9 - 8 out of the question if this year's and last year's drafts produce on the field AND Jones & Barkley are healthy?

We will see soon enough!
What I'm finally excited for for, in regards to the offensive
barens : 6/23/2022 8:07 am : link
line, is not only did they hopefully upgrade the talent, but they finally have some good depth.
Silly article overall having all those Rd 1 steals and
Jimmy Googs : 6/23/2022 8:12 am : link
and the author clearly has a hard-on for Ravens and Chiefs...
Sy said he was big on Tyler Linderbaum
Gruber : 6/23/2022 8:27 am : link
until he watched the tape and saw him getting pushed around.
Kyles Hamilton should never have dropped to #14, though.
Faalele has huge bust potential IMO
Heisenberg : 6/23/2022 8:34 am : link
I'd rather bet that he's out of the league in five years than a starter. Some interesting potential there, but I prefer all the linemen we picked over him.
I understand they have to fill the time before training camp
arniefez : 6/23/2022 8:35 am : link
But I would much rather they go back two or three years and use the same premise. I think that would be a more interesting article

None of the guys they wrote about have lined up against anyone but their own teammates and if I'm remembering the OTA and mini camp rules correctly none of them have even dressed out for a full practice yet.

Malik Willis?

issues — most notably his decision-making, mechanics and pocket presence — he’s likely to be a multi-year project

That's playing against teams that are in the bottom rung of college football. Why would anyone draft him sooner. I guess there's chance he could be Russell Wilson but it seems there's a much better chance he won't be. PFF says he should have been a 1st? Makes no sense to me. They said Riddler and Howell should have been round 1 too?

Who knows maybe they're correct. We'll see. There is certainly an aspect of group think around evaluations league wide. If this article was written next March after their rookie years played out it would have made more sense to me.
Was LT A Steal At 2nd Overall In 1981?
Trainmaster : 6/23/2022 9:05 am : link
The best defensive player of all time didn’t go 1st overall.

I agree it seems a little silly to talk “steal” regarding any top 10 pick. “Great value” maybe.

Most of the “steals” after the top of the first round are players who
Ivan15 : 6/23/2022 9:43 am : link
Had good college stats but were passed over because they had some limitations, usually physical limitations, that were difficult to overcome. Like many of you, I think “steals” would be more meaningful after the first or second year after we see if whether players can overcome the limitations.

Still, I don’t blame the writer for writing an article that generates interest and controversy at this dead time of the year.

And at that weight Faalele is likely to have foot and ankle issues.

is so far away from a starting caliber QB in the NFL, or even a 2nd stringer, that the unknown that exists within that gap is too big an "IF" for him to be drafted that high.

I actually think he's practice squad material.

I don't know about that. A lot folks favored Ekwonu at five. Others bought into the negative hype about Thibodeaux and would have passed on him. Lots of that sentiment here for either of those. Sy, I believe, wrote he would have gone with a different pair.
