you said it - having catchers who can really throw the past couple years has made a big difference. that's a game that gets a lot more uncomfortable without good defense behind diaz.
big to get a W against Alcantara.
His HR? Only a HR in this stadium. Wouldn't have gotten out of the other 29 parks.

Alcantara is really good. A ground ball pitcher who can throw his fastball 100 mph? Not too many of those around.

yeah watching him pitch has definitely continued to push me towards the aggressive end for either of montas/castillo because without JDG they don't have a SP with pure heat like that and they are both very similar profiles to Alcantara. Montas is sitting at 96 on his FB this year with 48% Gbs and Castillo is 96 mph at 50% with a 53% career GB rate.
Alcantara is 55% this year which is above his career average of 49%, but the other 2 also generate more k's.
imagine how perfectly a pitcher anywhere close to alcantara would fit in between Scherzer and Bassitt. just a totally different look.

It's what Big Pelf could have and should have been before the Mets messed him up. When he first came up dude was throwing 98mph sinkers that were dropping off a ledge..

refresh my memory on how they messed him up.
He was one of my favorites coming up, was so pissed how they handled him.
Barely even had a career.

Peterson had him completely abandon the sinker and wanted him to pitch like Mulder/Hudson

Jacob deGrom threw a 20 pitch live batting practice in Port St Lucie today against Mets minor league hitters that went well. He will likely need at least one more live BP before being evaluated for a rehab assignment
It's sounding unlikely Bednar gets moved but interesting about the A's including Andrus' contract in a potential trade. I'd be all over that if i was cohen because that's a real differentiator. I'd tell Oakland and Cincinnati im willing to take either Andrus or Minor $ fully off their hands, with a top prospect going their way, and the first one ready to deal saves the $. Andrus wouldn't have a role so you could either DFA him like Cano or IL him.
Gammons: Yankees, Dodgers et al are obvious buyers, but mid-tier sellers have decisions to make - ( New Window )

Remember when Peterson said he could "fix Victor Zambrano in ten minutes"?
He also wanted Heath Bell to abandon the high fastball and keep everything down.
What a disaster. Hired by Brewers after being fired by the Mets and then fired a year later and has never worked again as a pitching coach.
