Hakeem Nicks Career Highlights

Keaton028 : 6/24/2022 12:02 pm
I highlighted Victor Cruz yesterday and thought it only right to pay homage to his running mate. Cruz was the star of the 2011 season, but Nicks was the undisputed stud of the Postseason. His connection with Eli wins us the Packers game. It’s so easy to forget about Nicks amongst the insanity that was Cruz, but he played absolutely brilliantly down that final stretch.

Tragically like Cruz, his career was taken from him in the 2012 Bucs game. Watching him not pan out on multiple teams completely sucked. Another player who was capable of residing in the NFL’s upper echelon of wideouts had injuries not occurred. Salute to Hakeem Nicks!

Also lower the volume on this video package. I hate these highlight packages that don’t include the original commentary, but I couldn’t find one for Nicks. Still an impressive 25 min of a guy who’s career only lasted a few years!

Nick's will always

Be my top 3 Giants in recent history (next to Eli, BJac).

So dominant as a WR. Loved the way he abused Terrance Newman in primetime. Damn, why couldn't he stay healthy.
#88 in your program, #1 in your hearts

He had it all and was just coming into his own when the injury happens (as he was destroying Aqib Talib). I was in the end zone on his catch-and-run against the Falcons, one of the greatest plays I've seen in-person coming right at me.
The guy was an absolute beast and so fun to watch

I feel he’s often overlooked in the Super Bowl run. 10 receptions for 109 yards in the big game! Damn injuries really sidelined what could have been an amazing career.
That Falcons

and Packers game he was just unstoppable. An unreal start to the postseason.
I can't help but think...

'Oh, what could have been?'
Amazing to me

How many catches he had with guys all over him. He really had great hands and strength.
Reese's inability to fix the offensive line

is his epitaph, but it's stunning to think about how injury luck derailed his time as GM.

Steve Smith, Kenny Phillips, Terrell Thomas, Hakeem Nicks, Victor Cruz, Jake Ballard, and probably many more...all guys who could have been a solid foundation, all basically lost after their first few seasons due to injuries.

Add in the dumbassery of Plaxico Burress and Jason Pierre-Paul, plus the ones nobody will ever know about for sure in David Wilson and Chad Jones. If the Giants had even moderate injury luck, the last decade would have looked very different.
Just mentioned this game on another thread but a stand-out

performance from Nicks that I always recall was a regular season game versus the Packers in 2011.

The Giants lost the game but Nicks put up a couple of awesome TD catches to keep things very close, and did it against the All-Pro CB Charles Woodson no less. Recall Woodson respectfully "tipping his cap" a bit to Nicks also because he knew Nicks was turning into a seriously good WR.

Nicks did it as well during those entire playoffs.

+1
What an absolute stud he was
Not super tall
Spiciest Memelord : 6/24/2022 2:28 pm : link
not super big, strong, fast or twitchy. But well rounded in all of those making him a perfectly good X receiver.
My favorite WR from an era of Giants football with some greats
j_rud : 6/24/2022 4:02 pm : link
More than a little bit of Michael Irvin jn him. Not the biggest but he'll outmuscle you. Not the fastest but he'll run away from you. Not the biggest but he'll consistently win contested/jump balls. Loved watching that dude play, and his 2012 playoff run stacks up as an all time post season performance.
I truly believe

and I’ll preface that I am a “Homer” fan of his, if he would’ve stayed healthy he MAY have been a HOFr. JMHO!
Always one of my favorite Giants

His career was really setting up to explode…thought that nucleus the Giants had would’ve had a longer run. It was over so quickly.
So many times
Joe Beckwith : 6/25/2022 12:07 am : link
he was tackled inside the 10 or even the 5 that a step faster or better throw would have been TDs.
Never realized that.
Thanks for the highlights.
It was literally his best game as a pro, and...
sb from NYT Forum : 6/25/2022 2:05 am : link
...he got a career-altering injury on the last play.

Freakin sucks.

I too think Nicks had Canton talent if injuries hadn't derailed his career. He was THAT freaking good.
One of my favorite
