NFT: Astros at Yankees - Sunday 26th - 4th game

section125 : 6/26/2022 2:08 pm
Yeah, off to a great start with Altuve parking the 1st pitch of the game and nobody on the Yankees still refusing to hit.

Is it that they don't play well in daylight?

I mean how the fuck do you throw the guy first pitch letter high fastballs??? He comes out of the dugout swinging the bat yet here we keep throwing them to him time after time. It's like we're daring him to hit HRs

3-0 prob good enough to win

They don't own anything. But there has been a persistent habit of the Yankees for years where all the bats go silent for long stretches and then waking up the same day. I had thought Dawson sorted this out. But yesterday, I don't care what Kay or Flats says, was embarrassing. Guy was throwing mid 90s FB and they couldn't hit it. Today the guy's BA against is .301 with .500+ slugging and they are still asleep.

Ok, I am now through with today after 3 straight two out hits to give up 2 more runs...

Lol. This is what they've done against good pitching for three years. Why would anyone be surprised? They will win a shit ton of games against the lower 60% and get beaten by the teams with good pitching. Nothing has changed other than they also have some good SP that will win some of the closer games this time around. Not enough in the playoffs as constituted, IMHO, but that's the way it is.

It is shit. What the hell does this team have to do with the 2019 or 2020 Yanks? Stanton murdered Tampa in '20. Judge is on a different level right now. Rizzo wasn't on those teams. The pitching is better. I get it till they win the WS everyone is gonna groan, but this is not the same team.

Some Yankees fans are weird. And I’m being kind.

This team has been nothing short of flawless all year long. But some fans just know they won’t win. Hey you might be right, but you’re still being weird. And I gotta say it, you don’t know. If this team can’t win in October than no team can win in October. This team has displayed every important trait you’d want to see. They hit for power. They get on base. They can run and steal bases. They can field at an above avg level. They deploy the best starting pitching in baseball and the bullpen is even better. They are resilient. They are well coached and they come from behind time and time again.

Can’t win in October my left nut. They might not but there’s a shit load of random luck Involved in mlb postseason play. That’s baseball Susan.

This team is more than capable. Just stop living in fear and enjoy the season.

A series in which the Yankees need 3 run comebacks in the 8th and 9th innings separated by nearly 3 full games of complete and total offensive ineptitude (1 run over 25 innings) isn’t exactly one to write home about.

Aside from the Yankees, there are only 3 good teams in the AL. It’s not outlandish to use series against those teams as a barometer for the club It’s also not outlandish to draw comparisons between this performance and their previous inability to hit halfway decent pitching in big moments. However, that obviously doesn’t mean that they won’t win it all or that this series is a harbinger of future postseason failure.

Replace Gallo with a contact hitter who can flirt with 750 ops. The rest of the lineup is fine. It’s not all hrs. Last two years it was.

Agree.

Yes, gallo is who I think they look to replace at deadline.

Bwitz...you add nothing to convo except throwing insults around. Its amazing youre still on this board. Id say its a poor job by staff here.

Moving on. Great, gutsy win by yanks. Overall though I am definitely concerned about their inability to hit the stros. 4 hits today and it took 10 innings. So youre looking at 4 hits in 20 innings. Thats a concern for sure. I think they have the fight to win it all for sure but the stros are certainly a VERY tough opponent who we were pretty fortubate to split with. Otherwise thet dominated the series.
Overall, yanks are a VERY good team. I think yankee fans myself i cluded get pissed off because we expect more and know how we have struggled in poatseason to get over the hump. I certainly think we are better than we were last year so thats good. Should be a fun postseason. Just hope we get wuality ABs earlier in the game. We cannot always rely on homers or late game heroics

Replacing Gallo with an even a league-average contact tool OF’er helps out, of course - but I also think (theyre not gonna do this) but they need to be looking at an upgrade to IKF as well - I could stomach the offensive style if he could even make the routine plays, but he’s far too shaky at SS to be a ‘glove-first’ guy on a championship team.

I could see them adding a glove first SS or UTIL guy to the roster but, I doubt we see IFK lose any starting time unless he’s hurt. Possibly Peraza later on in the year.

Being self-critical is part of being a fan. I don't give a flying fuck about the Mets because I don't root for them.

And Houston also out-hit the Yanks by 15 this series. As well as the team is playing, we really need to shore up the two holes in the line-up in Hicks and Gallo.
Judge hadn't gone hitless two games in a row until yesterday
adamg : 6/26/2022 8:37 pm : link
Just throwing that out there.
Hicks has been sufficiently better lately to get the
Del Shofner : 6/26/2022 8:39 pm : link
benefit of the doubt, but it seems they're just being stubborn about Gallo to try to vindicate the trade. He is a good defensive RF but that's a corner OF position that has to hit, not strike out 67% of the time.
Ian Happ should be a move we consider
adamg : 6/26/2022 8:40 pm : link
Shout out to Arc for putting on the Happ Wagon. 138 OPS+ switch hitter this season. Would be a nice switcharoo for Gallo.

Well I’m not surprised given the Yanks we’re no hit and went hit less over 16-17 innings over three games. Bottom line is they got the split in spite of that, and that’s what a good team does. They find a way.
Splitting is definitely better than going 1-3.
Jim in Hoboken : 6/26/2022 8:44 pm : link
The point is in the playoffs, often it's a well-placed and well-timed hit that wins a game.

BTW, all but 1 of our runs were on the HR also.
Benintendi
GruningsOnTheHill : 6/26/2022 8:58 pm : link
is someone I would like to see replace Gallo in LF.

Though mainly a singles hitter, the guy is batting .300 this year. Adding a lefty to the righty-heavy NYY lineup would be great, and I believe I read he's 5th in MLB in defensive runs saved in LF.

10-D for me.

Again I’m not surprised at that either considering the long hitless innings thing. It’s not like they had many innings where they strung together a few hits.

Obviously we’d all liked to have seen more hits, but I’ll take the split and move on. I don’t think it’s a sign of things to come with this team, more like the trials of a long season, and things like this can happen over a few days even to the best of teams.

To me it’s encouraging to see them actually still be able to get the split vs a really good team in spite of the lack of hits.
Benintendi is having one of his better years
arniefez : 6/26/2022 9:56 pm : link
He will command a price that will hurt. I think the things he does well would complement the current Yankee lineup and add a well above average LF. He would be a huge upgrade from Hicks and Gallo.

... was an issue unique to the Yankees. They may have been an extreme case during the Gary Sanchez era - and it wasn’t just Sanchez.

I have to admit, I don’t pay much attention when the Yankees play Baltimore or Kansas City, so my impressions get skewed by their performance against stronger pitching staffs.

Being out hit doesn't mean that much. They were pretty unproductive hits, weren't they? 1960 WS the Yanks crushed the Pirates offensively, yet lost.
They survived
Carson53 : 6/27/2022 10:27 am : link
and got a split of the series, heck of a comeback considering they didn't have a hit until the 7th inning...
Strange game, Yanks also got away with some mistakes as well.
They have the Oakland AAA's coming in, need to take advantage of that team, they are not very good at baseball.

Best news of the day. I was worried when I saw it.

We need to get our lineup ready to dominate against some much weaker competition. The Astros are legit.
.

Some more great baserunning there, Torres a little too frisky on the basepaths sometimes...He wouldn't have hurt his ankle at all,
if he didn't stray too far off third base!
I love when we are winning

and not everything is going perfect. We all know where the deficiencies are on this team right now and we are still winning. Gallo's D is what is saving his roster spot right now. Benitendi sounds like a great replacement. We will get a close up of him in a couple of weeks. Hicks is still awful, just has been less awful as of late. Has had a few big hits as of late but evena blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then too.

Our next 3 games is against a team where we should get our Offensive confidence back. you would expect a bit of a let down after playing Houston but go out and put the smackdown on the A's.

I got to disagree a bit there. It seems to me he was going on contact so getting a moving secondary lead is good and when he sees a swing his momentum is going towards home.

If you saw the angle from home plate Gleyber had time to get back and the catcher wasn’t even going to throw down to third until his toe stuck and fell. To me that just showed Gleyber being aggressive, just unfortunate he twisted his ankle and went down, otherwise he’s back at 3rd no problem without even a throw.
