They have periodically done this with their starts this season (see Seymour going only 2 yesterday as well)
couple notes on vientos (pulled early but not due to injury)

Controversy here at Frontier Field, as LeCroy argues after a Mark Vientos shot down the LF line is initially called a HR but has now been called FOUL. SYR skipper Kevin Boles comes out and is gives a piece of his mind to the umpires, and now he's been tossed. @PickinSplinters

Dan J. Glickman @DanJGlickman

Vientos eventually struck out. He then threw his bat, his helmet, and let HP umpire Sam Burch know certain things. Now he's been tossed, as well. Wings lead 2-1 in middle of 6th. @PickinSplinters

0 xbh in last 9 games but 9 walks and 6 singles so his obp has actually gone up and ba stayed about the same. guessing he's just not getting much to hit (other than the foul ball that got him tossed i guess).

ready to throw in the towel on Khalil Lee being anything more than filler. Hitting .227 in June 19 k's over 44 ab's. He doesn't do anything exceedingly well and the sum of the parts doesn't seem to be a reliable package. Maybe he'll end up somewhere like Baltimore and make it work but I'm becoming less and less optimistic. Seems like a Zack Scott miss.

Should have stopped the Matz trade at Winckowski and Diaz. Winckowski with the Red Sox has a 3.38 ERA in 9 starts in AAA. With the Red Sox, he has made 4 starts with a 3.60 ERA. Only 13 Ks in 20 innings, but still looks like he would be decent depth behind Peterson.
I
DanMetroMan : 6/27/2022 10:48 am : link
would agree with that. Winckowski likely isn't more than up and down SP depth, but that's something every team can use (including the Mets).

his ranking always seemed likely to be inflated given the small price paid for him. he seemed like a guy that was already given up on.

Lee was coming off a season where he stole 53 bases, and he has some pop. I can see a GM being enamored by that, and being willing to trade a pitcher that is likely a backend guy at best. So I can't be too upset with the thought process in it
Strikes
DanMetroMan : 6/27/2022 10:53 am : link
out a TON (34.9% of his ab's this year).. he's had basically 1 full season of AA AB's (572 and 1 full season of AAA ab's 437... and he's struck out 182 and 174 times respectively) with only "some pop", has some speed (but even at the time of the trade it was acknowledged it was more like 55-60 speed and the 53 steal season was him running early and often vs. actual speed tool (ODLS for example has top 2% of the FSL sprint times). It's not worth harping on or dumping on the guy but I fail to see how he really helps this (or any good) team.

Sure. But it's very hard to see the path towards this specific example of that working out. 30+% K rate, "okay" pop and some speed AND a "solid" but not plus fielder (good arm though). I wasn't even critiquing the Mets, rather, I wouldn't count on him for much going forward.

i think both sides were shifting deck chairs and the strong likelihood is still neither gets much out of it. maybe lee is athletic enough to become a 4th OFer like janikowski. maybe the P can be a depth guy or shift to the BP and be on a Nogosek level.
he does have an OPS of +574 this year
KDavies : 6/27/2022 10:56 am : link
though in 2 ABs.

Lee is one of thousands of examples of why I am a hit tool guy first and foremost.
Since
DanMetroMan : 6/27/2022 10:56 am : link
joining the Mets organization he's played 163 games (so essentially 1 full season) he's stolen 17 bases, thrown out 14 times.

Agreed. I was always hoping he would be an adequate backup OF. That doesn't even look very likely at this point.

I'm not saying he has no chance to be Jankowski but Jankowski is also a plus glove (which is why he even has any role) AND believe it or not hit .414 his draft year and is a career .296 minor league hitter over 8 seasons.
Lee is considered good on D isn't he?
Eric on Li : 6/27/2022 11:06 am : link
i think i remember him making a few big catches last year in RF? my point was that his D could play without much offense as a spare part like janikowski (who has hung around the big leagues without hitting pretty much at all).

even this year he's exceeded our expectations but he's still hitting like .200 as a met with 0 xbh.
Butto disappointing as you noted Dan..
moze1021 : 6/27/2022 11:07 am : link
with him on the 40 man I figured if he continued to see strong starts from him, we'd see him at some point when an extra starter is needed instead of other options we've gone with lately...

Lee is not considered a plus glove no. He has good speed and a plus arm but it plays down due to his jumps. He's played very little CF since joining the Mets.
Khalil
DanMetroMan : 6/27/2022 11:10 am : link
Lee 23 starts in CF last year with Syracuse (67 in the corners) this year 20 starts in CF, 23 in the corners, 5 at DH. Keep in mind they preferred the skeleton of Cameron Maybin in CF over Lee last season due to "defense", Mason Williams (remember him) made starts in CF over Lee.
This
DanMetroMan : 6/27/2022 11:14 am : link
sums it up pretty well "defensive assets"

"Lee’s above-average speed and plus arm (dating back to his pitching days) give him defensive assets, and he profiles best in right field, where he spent most of last season"

for comparisons sake here was Jankowski's

Sickels-His best tools are 70-grade speed and excellent defensive instincts

Rosebaum-Jankowski’s plus speed lends to his above-average defense in the outfield and makes him a constant stolen base threat, as he’s an intelligent base stealer who understands where to pick his spots. Furthermore, his arm should be good enough to stick in center field.

Simon Juan walks again, then steals 2b. Over his last 4+ games he's been on base 9 times and stolen 3 bases, with only 3 k's (only 1 extra base hits over that time but seems to be starting to heat up)

Mets roster moves:

* Colin Holderman back from the IL … but sent down to Triple-A Syracuse

* Tylor Megill transferred to 60-day IL

* Kramer Robertson, an infielder, claimed off waivers from the Braves and sent to Syracuse
Was the Megill move expected?

Yeah pretty much. He won't even be evaluated for 4 weeks and then he'd have to build his arm back up. It can be backdated to June 17th, but they were hinting at Mid-August best realistic case for an MLB return. It's basically viewed as a a 2 month injury with rehab included (IF things go according to plan).
