With the 4th coming up, I wanted to ask what your favorite hot dog is? Toppings and preparation aside, I'm looking for your favorite dog of choice based on your criteria, minus toppings, preparation and bun of choice. Have at it!
A Hot dog truck in Nutley - I forget the name, but he is usually on the corner of Franklin and Grey lock Pkwy...from like 10ish to 2 PM - best hot onions I've ever had.
JJs Eat Me - In Newark, Branchbrook Park. 24/7 hot dog truck. Awesome stuff.
Dickie Dee's - Newark. Not a hot dog in the traditional sense, but still a different presentation of a hot dog.
The only reason I ever buy sour kraut is to put on hot dogs
I prefer Nathans to Hebrew National, but not by much.
It's easy to see why any producer of small batches of hot dogs can make them way better than the national brands can. I'll be on the lookout for those mentioned in this thread. Thanks.
Thumanns, Boars Head, or Sabrett. Wont bother with any others ever.
Thumann’s are amazing, but you can only really find them in a five pound package, if you find them at all. I’ve been buying Sabrett’s hot sausages lately. They’re nothing like sausages; they’re like oversized spicy hot dogs that fill the bun better.
But a few years back we hosted a graduation party and after it was over we had about 10 sabretts that had been sitting in a steamer full of hot water for 5+ hours.
That is my death row meal. Could have eaten all of those babies.
If they had better distribution, I can guarantee that they’d be better represented in this thread. Look out for the white package with blue writing on it, and you won’t be disappointed.
Black Bear from the Black Forest Susan. All beef and natural
Get my Hot Dogs from Sussex Meat packing in Wharton NJ.
Home made and the best out there. Every year at the 4th cookout all the family and friends rave about them.
If I have to get store bought in a pinch always grab the Black Bear Dogs at Shop Rite.
You must live close to me I know where that is it's only 15 minutes away lol
I've been in there a few times but I don't think I've bought anything from them
Have to agree with SMP, otherwise it's Hebrew nat.
Topping vary from roasted poblanos, jalapenos, Hoffman cheddar, onions, avocado, depending on mood, or Hot Grills chili sauce. Always topped with Mr. Mustard hot mustard.
Sabrett or Thuman's, Hebrew National a distant third.

or Hebrew National then you are a tongue dead serf. And you are still a mere peasant if your answer did not include hotdogs directly shipped from Katz's Delicatessen or Pat LaFrida facilities

I don't know about their hot dogs, but LaFrieda's burgers are ridiculously overrated and overpriced.
RE: For me, it’s Hoffman hot dogs and it’s not even close
Hoffman is a Syracuse based company made famous by Heidi’s hot dog stand in Liverpool. I grew up there. They are really great hot dogs, all bias aside. I’ve converted many people into hot dog snobs by introducing them to Hoffman’s. You can get them at Wegmans if you have one locally. Try the white hot’s too if they’re available. A little spicy and also really good.
Growing up not far from there, this is the correct answer. Though with 4 kids, including a 4 year old that can put down 3 in one sitting, I find myself getting whatever buy 1, get 1 deals I can at Publix. Often Sabrett or Nathans. Both are good.

I used to pass SMP on the way to the Wharton Costco for years, but never stopped in until about a year ago. Now I try to get there about once a month to stock up on things I can't find at my local supermarket or don't feel like getting online. Their selection is awesome.

Heid's is great. A classic 1950s era drive-in hot dog joint. It's the only think I look forward to when I have to go to Syracuse to visit my mother-in-law.
Well, that and Dinosaur BBQ.
Thanks for posting, I didn't know Wegman's carries Hoffman dog store-wide. I'll check the one downstate near me. Heid's of Liverpool - ( New Window )

Thanks for the heads up. I usually feel that way about most pre-made burgers patties. I would rather just take some good ground beef and make some burgers by hand
These FRANKFURTERS are both beef and pork. Amazing, if you live on Long Island.
Our delicious frankfurters are available in four varieties: the old fashioned in a natural casing, saitenwurst (long wieners), a skinless variety which is great for summer grilling and our famous cocktail franks or "peanuts."

I wonder if the name comes from Forest Ave. in Queens. I've been to a very similar store there back in the day - perhaps they moved to LI. Great place.

100%
Hofmnann hands down. German or Snappy Griller. They also make an excellent Bratwurst.

I lived ten minutes away from that place for about fifteen years, but can't recall ever going there. Looks like I missed out on some great food.

I ate more than my share of German sausages in Germany. 18 in one night (bratwurst, weisswurst, bockwurst, six each), along with two small chickens and eight potato pancakes.

Nice!
Going to the Forest Pork Store is sort of like walking into Germany!
Probably still, Sabretts off the street, Nathans from the store.
When I used to work at 800 flowers back in the 90's and one time during the mothers day crush they freaking brought literally sabretts hot dog carts inside, up the elevator and onto the call center floor. Free dogs while you worked. For a 20-something that was just freaking awesome. I'll stay there all night.
The factory is out of stock, all products, as of yesterday, and are not taking orders. None on Amazon, either
The products were on their website as of yesterday or the day before. The 5 pound package was $40, but I didn’t buy it because I thought that I could find a better deal locally. Looks like everything is gone now.

Kind of a popular Hot Dog week coming up...
Really? They're not on my menu :)
As some point during the first week of July, everybody in this country should be cooking, eating or at least present at a venue where hot dogs are being served.

I second that. Boar's head natural casing.
Their "lite" dogs are really good too, only 100 calories and taste great.

Hummels are really good but harder to find. Swanky Franks used to deep fry them.
Sabretts if we want dirty water hot dogs.
Mustard, sauerkraut, boars heads or sabretts onion.
never ever ketchup.

a dog in this fight. But Mrs. in UT will only eat all beef

Oscar Meyer hot dogs have to be the worst. Absolute garbage.

But the most memorable theme song.
My kids love Sabrett's.
Doesn't matter what you put on them either, I like eating them plain as much as loading them up.
Plus 1
Miss them dearly living in AZ
