With the 4th coming up, I wanted to ask what your favorite hot dog is? Toppings and preparation aside, I'm looking for your favorite dog of choice based on your criteria, minus toppings, preparation and bun of choice. Have at it!
Hoffman is a Syracuse based company made famous by Heidi’s hot dog stand in Liverpool. I grew up there. They are really great hot dogs, all bias aside. I’ve converted many people into hot dog snobs by introducing them to Hoffman’s. You can get them at Wegmans if you have one locally. Try the white hot’s too if they’re available. A little spicy and also really good.

My go to for Toppings, I load em up with some great local spicy relishes around here: ( Frankie’s/ Blackies/ etc.), Saurkraut, Chopped Onion, and some yellow mustard.

you mean like French's? Quickest way to ruin a dog or sandwich (ham and Swiss, pastrami on rye).

I too like Hoffman's since it's a pork and beef blend.
Can no longer find Boar's Head pork and beef blend here in my area of NC. When I lived in CT Hummels was my go to choice. As for toppings, my favorite is mustard and kraut. I doctor canned kraut with a little brown sugar, caroway seed, and chopped onion.

A Hot dog truck in Nutley - I forget the name, but he is usually on the corner of Franklin and Grey lock Pkwy...from like 10ish to 2 PM - best hot onions I've ever had.
JJs Eat Me - In Newark, Branchbrook Park. 24/7 hot dog truck. Awesome stuff.
Dickie Dee's - Newark. Not a hot dog in the traditional sense, but still a different presentation of a hot dog.
The only reason I ever buy sour kraut is to put on hot dogs
I prefer Nathans to Hebrew National, but not by much.
It's easy to see why any producer of small batches of hot dogs can make them way better than the national brands can. I'll be on the lookout for those mentioned in this thread. Thanks.
Thumanns, Boars Head, or Sabrett. Wont bother with any others ever.
Thumann’s are amazing, but you can only really find them in a five pound package, if you find them at all. I’ve been buying Sabrett’s hot sausages lately. They’re nothing like sausages; they’re like oversized spicy hot dogs that fill the bun better.
But a few years back we hosted a graduation party and after it was over we had about 10 sabretts that had been sitting in a steamer full of hot water for 5+ hours.
That is my death row meal. Could have eaten all of those babies.
If they had better distribution, I can guarantee that they’d be better represented in this thread. Look out for the white package with blue writing on it, and you won’t be disappointed.

Topping vary from roasted poblanos, jalapenos, Hoffman cheddar, onions, avocado, depending on mood, or Hot Grills chili sauce. Always topped with Mr. Mustard hot mustard.
Sabrett or Thuman's, Hebrew National a distant third.

I second that. Boar's head natural casing.
Their "lite" dogs are really good too, only 100 calories and taste great.

Hummels are really good but harder to find. Swanky Franks used to deep fry them.
Sabretts if we want dirty water hot dogs.
Mustard, sauerkraut, boars heads or sabretts onion.
