email to the MLB League Office...

I have just watched the home plate umpire in this evening's game(June 28th, 2022 vs Oakland Athletics) call a strike in two separate at bats on Aaron Judge that were clearly, without question low. Not barely low, but clearly low.

This goes on virtually every game and has gone on from the time he was called up to MLB. I would think after 5 plus years, the office would have straightened this out. You cannot continue to allow one the game's best players to have the bat taken out of his hand as often as he has. It is in the best interest of baseball to instruct it's umpires to familiarize themselves with Judge's strike zone and make the proper calls. The strange thing is that this rarely happens to Giancarlo Stanton who is almost the same height.

Bravo and well said.

If he doesn’t have the most clear balls called strikes than anyone in the league, I’d like to know who does. It’s absolutely ridiculous and I was glad to see Boone giving the ump shit for the low calls tonight even as early as he did.

I’m so tired of seeing the bat taken out of his hands or one of his at bats altered because of a really bad strike call. How many times have we had to watch him swing at a pitch that wasn’t a strike because he knew it would be called one anyway? Too many!

Yeah, Kay reiterated that he has far and away the most miscalled strikes against of any player in baseball.

Trevino has to make the adjustment but the one replay showed the batter way deep in the box. Looked to me like if it was early in the game when the chalk was visible, he would’ve definitely had his back foot outside the back of the box.

That late in the game there’s no back chalk line left to tell for sure but he was pretty deep in the box. That said Trevino has to adjust and not let that interference happen. Ironic it was the A’s catcher awarded 1st on it after he did it twice last night.

Murphy was set really far back in the box. I'm almost not even sure how Trevino could have gotten out of the way there.

That was aggravating.

Still got the W. Just keep rolling, boys.

The box is the same for all. Trevino was almost underneath Murphy. Night before Murphy kept reaching for the ball. Trevino was way to close - I suppose trying to steal low strikes on the sinker - but he has to feel where he is and he was too far to close to Murphy.

I don’t agree with you all the way there. Yes he has to feel where he is but just like batters and pitchers dig their holes in the box and mound for their footing, catchers can feel where they position their feet all game and have basically worn a foothold in their box as well.

If you look at a replay of it somehow you can clearly see how Murphy’s back foot would’ve been well out of the batters box has the chalk line still been there. I’m not absolving Trevino of any blame, just saying there was a lot more to it than just reaching and trying to steal a strike. If that were the case why didn’t it happen with any other batter when Holmes was pitching? Because imo, they were all inside the batters box, unlike Murphy who was too deep.

You are not wrong - but then either Trevino has to tell the umpire, or he has to move back. If you watch the replay I don't know how he didn't get hit in the head - he was that far underneath Murphy.
I have seen umpires take the bat and mark the back end of the box by using the bat's length from the back corner of the plate(not the point) and 36 inches(IIRC) from that corner. Murphy did look about a foot width to deep.

If public shaming is what it takes to get a decent strike zone for Judge, then do it. Obviously, quietly doing it through back channels isn't working
