Sevy vs Garcia
I just don't get it.

Or the batting skills...
First and last names both end in vowels?

Gallo now to me is like back in the day when you had a good to really good defensive shortstop who couldn’t hit his weight. He played for his D and any O you got was a bonus. Mark Belanger for the O’s for example.
Gallo gives them a really good defensive outfielder and batting him 9th like the old shortstops is good enough for now. If his D slips he better be riding pine.

Corner outfield (and primarily left, though he has played a fair bit of right this year) is definitely where you look to have glove only guys.
Well the ump just made up for it on that Strike out
Manfred has come out and said 2024 we get robo umps. Technology is too available for anyone to ignore how hard this job is. I didn't want robo umps but it simply has to be added in at this point.

I like the sentiment but that isn't what we are seeing. Joey just hasn't been the player he was before coming over. It happens. Time to move on.
2-0.
Yeah, when you throw 98, you challenge the batter. But he should have thrown a change to Tucker on the pitch he walked him on.
Did not like the pitch selection with Tucker.
He is so effin lost. Misses a 94 mph meatball and then looks at a pitch down which is what he likes to hit.

Sevy just nibbling and Bregman makes him pay.

You don’t walk the guy with a sub 600 OPS before either of those guys come to the plate.
Until that pitch Garcia was baffling them. Nice to see Rizzo put one out of there.
Add that to a crazy offense and we have a bar set for how much we need to improve.
Let's start with figuring out who should be flanking Judge.

I think the Astros are saying the same thing about the Yankees.
As the Ump shits the bed on two off the plate strike calls...robots cannot get there soon enough.

Stros are very good. Their SPs and hitting seems more reliable than ours, but they are right to worry right through the last out.

I think the Yanks SPs still have the lowest ERA in baseball. Both teams are pretty damn good. Stros batting order is a bit better, I will grant you that.
I agree. A long way to go obviously and I’m not assuming anything, but a Yankees-Astros ALCS would be absolutely epic. For many reasons
It is absolutely unbelievable that no matter how many games this team wins in the late innings, we still have fans that act as though the game is over in the 7th.

I’d rather have a series of shitty games where the yanks beat them by 5 or more runs every time..but that’s just me…

Yanks gone in the 7th down a run after 8 pitches? Not promising.

With the Yankees it never is. Like to see our best hitting trio do something in the 8th, though.

Well, yeah every day of the week. But as far as quality baseball, these are good games.
Honestly if he doesn't pick it up it might be time to start platooning him for awhile. He murders lefties, and DJ plays a great 3b.
Ok..now for IKF..last shot..
da bats?
To figure out how to hit against the Astros.
Looks like they stand between the Yanks and a World Series appearance.
Gallo and Donaldson blow right now..Andujar plays both positions..he can’t be worse than either of these 2 guys currently…
Yet they outhit the Astro’s.
The game was decided on the two walks Sevy gave up to load the bases for Bregman. He doesn’t lose his control there, and we’re going to the bottom or the 9th up 1-0.
I agree with those saying these are well played games. There’s a fine line between winning and losing between these teams.

I just think they need an additional LH bat. Days like today the lineup just looks too right handed.
Keep trotting Gallo’s .165 bat out there, but I haven’t figured it out yet.
Have you?

As far as Sevy - he has dominating stuff. I really do not understand dicking around with batters - get ahead and pound the zone. I feel the same way with Cole.
I hate when they lose, but it was a well played game.

It's not that difficult, hard for Cash to admit his mistake.
Eventually, he will get around to it at the deadline.
BTW, lets keep track of this trade a couple years down the road with the prospects traded. I am not predicting anything, just saying.

Sometimes to me, Sevy leaves you wanting just a little bit more. Sometimes he is good, but not quite good enough.
I am glad he is healthy this year though!

and his contract. Gallo, I think will be gone. He simply is lost at the plate and shows no signs of "getting it.". Both are excellent fielders, but offer little at the plate although Donaldson actually runs into a pitch now and then. But you can see his age is catching up. He has to get ahead of the FB and once he commits, if it is a breaking ball, he is dead.

He has given up 3 and 2 runs to the Astros and is 0-2. Both were his own fault. But that is still good pitching. But I know what you mean. There is more there in him. He can be better, and probably should be.

I hated this trade at the time. We sold high on Otto - sure - but Duran was ready to help us in a big way and has upside. I also was excited to see what Smith might do.
If Gallo hadn't wilted it might have been a different story. He clearly can't handle the real lights.
All the triple crown talk got to him.

I agree on Gallo gone at the trading deadline. I hate to compare trades down the road. Sometimes trades work out and sometimes they don’t. I think we won the trade with the Pirates for Holmes.

Ha, could be. I just think he is tired a bit. Long stretch with no rest. They all run into a wall a couple times per year. They sat him a day and he hit two bombs the next day.
I still have a smidgeon of hope that Donaldson will pick it up with the bat in the 2nd half. Thankfully, he's been good defensively, but if he continues to struggle at the plate, he shouldn't be guaranteed AB's. DJ/Marwin should simply get more PT @ 3B.

He was never a serious triple crown candidate though, he's never sniffed .300 in a season. I think this is a normal slump that's going to happen to sluggers. Just have to hope he and Stanton don't go cold at the same time. I think it was stantons first year as a Yankee where they did a really good job not going cold together, so hopefully that happens again.
I don't know about that.
lonk - ( New Window )
This isn't a sleight, its just not his game. There hasn't been a triple crown winner in a decade - the last was Miguel Cabrera and he went .330/44/139 and before him like 30/40 years. Judge just isn't sniffing the batting average.

The worm will turn with us beating the Astros when we strengthen our lineup and get rid of Gallo. Aug 2nd here we come.
