This was exactly my point. Agreed.
no disagreement from me on that he should have come up instead of Dom
Dom should have kept playing every day in AAA. Hard to see what either of them gained by Dom falling back into a slump on limited playing time and Vientos continuing to beat up AAA pitchers.
but 4 weeks until the deadline i think there's still time. Cuse has a day off tomorrow and mcneil is back in the field so hopefully they make the move. even if it's only temporary until they make a trade there is no downside. he's probably the best organizational option for the DH right now. the whole situation is reminiscent of Alonso not getting called up but at least that was over service time (which they ended up not even manipulating the following year).
aaron judge has a 29% career k rate on a .277 career batting average. it plays because he has massive power (.285 career iso slg%) and he has enough strike zone disciple to maintain a solid OBP (14% career walk rate).
Vientos has a 12% walk rate, a 30% k rate, and a .251 batting average right now, which is on the lower end of what he's done in his minors career including last year when he hit .280.
the bottom line is this - if he hits for power the way he has in the minors the last 365 days (.280 iso) his contact profile can play.
Vientos hit just .242 in June with a K rate of 36%
after a hot May in which he hit .328 but still had a K rate of 37%
With the Mets more about contact now, perhaps the K rate and the cool June batting average are why he hasnt gotten the call
Also could be they are going to use him as trade bait and dont want to call him up, see him fail, and lose his trade value
And for those saying it should have been Vientos instead of Dom - that makes no sense since Dom bats lefty and Vientos is righty and a duplicate of JD Davis
Not what the Mets need imo. I think Vientos will get a look before the trade deadline if JD and Dom continue to falter.
But getting those guys straightened out is still the first option. Given that the team is half way through the season, it is obviously less likely that they hit. But I think for now, they are the DH tandem.

JDD has a 31% k rate, just 2 homers, and hitting .225 vs. lefties.
They have been shopping him for 2+ years with no takers. What conceivable reason is there to continue to invest at bats in him after such a long streak of not producing? there's no downside to parking him on the bench for a few weeks to see if Vientos is better - hard to envision he's worse.
Cruz or Bell would probably be my top choice for DH but gotta think like with Scherzer the Nats won't be looking to trade him to the mets if they can help it.

I believe it was Statcast that suggested Mancini would have 17 homeruns if he played at Citi Field. For some reason the Orioles moves left field back to 384 and raised the wall up nearly 2 feet a few years back and they believe it has cost many hitters their power, including Mancini.

He is tied for 4th on the team in HRs.
He just really has not been the same player since he missed 2020. He is still better than JD/Dom but I would not give up anything significant for him. Certainly not one of the big prospects.

What makes you think he will hit better than that in the big leagues this season?
Plus, 31% K rate. That is too much, IMHO.
How long has it been since we have seen Boca Gene posting on a Mets thread?
Awesome to see the longtime posters showing up. Mets must be doing something right!

As I said, maybe the Mets are wanting to use Vientos as trade bait and dont want to risk his value by bringing him up and seeing him struggle
