Both Jones and Barkley (for different reasons) had their best pro seasons under an Andy Reid disciple in Shurmur, and now Kafka is seemingly having a WCO influence on the offense. This based on Barkley's and the WR group interviews.
I think the flex guy is going to be Toney, and that Robinson is the day one primary slot guy. I don't think he's going to get that many rush or bubble looks. There's no reason to get him crushed. Toney has better wiggle and better open field speed IMV.
I think what we've seen with Reid over the last few years will be a part of the Giants offekse -- fewer 'long hand offs' in the passing game to the backs, instead more comeback and flare routes to the TEs and slot WRs. Said in another way, the classic WCO but just 5 yards further down the field.
When I think Jones, I think quick reads and out. He looked pretty good in 2019 doing that.
In 2019, it was about designing a QB friendly system - Jones (even with limited support looked promising). Then regime change and down-the-toilet he went.
Reality - Jones is limited, but even limited is good enough to win. NFL history is full of examples. Someday, we might land a "franchise", till then we'll play the hand that's been dealt.

I agree. I am guessing they watched a WHOLE lot of that first year under Shurmur to take a look at the things they actually did well. That said, I will guess they are also going to taylor the offense a bit as you described based on who's available (please PLEASE let us have a healthy year) and of course who they have under center.
Slayton did well in 2019, his rookie year so he may again be the deep threat. I’m not sure where Golladay fits in that offense. Maybe he is the 1st option if they can’t get a quick toss to Toney or Wan’dale.
What I have seen is a TB that is looking for grass and there is none.
IZ/OZ/Trap/Power... slamming his head into the chest of a LB is not tough running... it's giving up on a play.
Now you went and gave away their secret play for opening day!
I'm its been used by so many teams and evolved so significantly that "West Coast Offense" as a term really doesn't make much sense anymore.

True, but we get tge point he’s making. Besides, he modified it as well..😎

I wonder if Golladay can be worked into this concept as a de facto TE in short passing game, using his height/big body (virtually no synch between Jones and KG last year), with Ballantine as as second threat. Then, working off short routes, use as decoys for deeper KG patterns as game dictates.
Ballantine?
Who is the ale man?
Shurmur's WCO roots came out a lot in 2018/2019 -- the amount of rub routes, long "hand offs, the number of snaps Ellison and Smith lined up at fullback. Teams do have a base offense they work from.
When Toney was interviewed he made a reference to the routes not being locked, and that he had the freedom to pick his option. A lot of people picked that up as similar to Gilbride, but that's rooted in Holmgrein and Reid.
My guess is the Giants don't play 11 or 10 personnel nearly 80% of the snaps next year like the Bills did in 2021. I bet they run a bunch of 2 TE or 2 back sets and try and get the ball out fast.
I don't think in year one with a new line Daboll will be looking for Jones to be making 3 and 4 reads a lot.
I would think that what we think of as a WCO would be a package in a modern offense.
How many TEs does BBI predict the Giants will keep, and does Jeremiah Hall make the 53? Eric has him listed as the only FB but he caught a lot of balls at OU as the linked highlights show. Seems like a "QB's best friend" type.
Jeremiah Hall highlights - ( New Window )

I think they'll keep three TE's plus Hall.

And a Mel Allen back at you. LOL
ok, ok, Bellinger, not Ballantine; I chalk it up to my holiday impairment, à la Duggan.

I thought you might recognize that jingle...
But he also doesn't play Specials. Toney and Robinson can and likely will.
Both Robinson and Toney ran fast 40s. Even Richie James ran a good time. I don't think it's completely necessary for the team to keep ahold on Darius just because of his 40 time. For the first time on this team, to me, he has an uphill battle to climb. The WR group is deeper than it has been in some years. At least for the philosophy Daboll values. That's why guys like James are here.

DJ is a good long passer. This means that Slayton, our fastest WR, not only makes the team, but has a big role.

The best ability may be availability, but the second best is dependability, and Slayton is, unfortunately, undependable. Great speed, bad hands. Not at all what you want in a WR, and certainly not one who deserves to play "a big role."
