NFT: Your all-time favorite tv series/miniseries

Ira : 7/4/2022 2:23 pm
Mine goes back to the 1979 BBC series Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy starring Alec Guinness and based on the novel by John le Carre. George Smiley, a retired spymaster (Alec Guinness) is recruited by the British gvt to find a Soviet mole in their intelligence hierarchy. Le Carre had worked for both MI5 and MI6, so his novels had a very realistic ring to them.

That's mine. Please tell me about yours.

The Leftovers
Breaking Bad

That's my Mount Rushmore. Too many others that I'd want to include and I might be forgetting something because my mind wasn't in this spot..

Community is the best written show I've ever seen. I can rewatch them over and over and continue to pick up subtle jokes that you didn't notice the first X times.

The Leftovers is just incredibly acted, a succinct story that didn't get dragged out. It's what Lost should have been before ABC got greedy...it's Lindelof's masterpiece.

Breaking Bad.. hate to be cliche but after rewatching last year it's just too good not to be on these lists

The OA - biggest shame in TV history that Netflix isn't giving Brit and Zal a chance to complete their vision

My top 5 ...not in order
Spider56 : 7/5/2022 7:37 am : link
North and South
Winds of War
Sopranos
Peaky Blinders
Blue Bloods

Honorable mention to the Law and Order episodes with Lenny Briscoe.
I know a lot of kudos go to Breaking Bad...
BamaBlue : 7/5/2022 7:49 am : link
it's also worthy to note how fantastic the spin-off, 'Better Call Saul' is. It's probably the best thing on TV for the last few years and right up there with Breaking Bad.
Six Feet Under, Soprano's and Deadwood all time favorites

Young Hawkeye and Sam Malone were great.
I agree with the OP
Tinker, Tailor (and its sequel) hands down my favorite and it's not even close. That said, I love a lot of recent stuff, but I could watch TTSP on a loop.
Further back I'd say Mash and LA Law
Stu11 : 7/5/2022 8:43 am : link
More recent for.shows I'd say my favorite is The Americans
Limited series wise I'd go Band of Brothers, Chernobyl and the Plot Against America
Top ones for meAll in the Family

NYPD Blue
St. Elsewhere

Civil War (documentary)

Not the best but…
Mike in St. Louis : 7/5/2022 10:10 am : link
I’ll throw Person of Interest into the mix…
Mine are grouped
aimrocky : 7/5/2022 10:22 am : link
into "shows that I watch over and over and over again" and I can't emphasize that enough... I have 3 TV shows that I'll put on shuffle as we're falling asleep and that's South Park, Family Guy and Everybody Loves Raymond. I'm a sucker for cheap laughs. If I watch one of those three shows essentially every day of the year, then they have to be 3 of my favorites of all time.

My favorite series that I've binge watched 3+ times is Breaking Bad. There's not a series close to that. I've gone through Yellowstone and Soprano's 2+ times and Better Call Saul probably the same, but if AMC is doing a Breaking Bad Marathon, I try and catch as many episodes as I can.
Geesh..I am on an island here

Just Star Trek.

I've seen each episode a million times but I can still watch them with interest when they are on TV.

One of my favorite TV episodes of all time is The Inner Light (Star Trek: The Next Generation).

I also thought the series finale (All Good Things...) was one of the best finales for a series of all time.

Good call on 'The Inner Light'. I'd like to add 'Best Of Both Worlds'. I think the two part episode is better than most of the Star Trek movies.

That was me. It was an amazing show that Fox bungled from the start. They aired all of the episodes out of order and at erratic times. Never really had a chance to get going.

I think Disney officially owns the rights now that they've bought Fox, but I doubt they'll ever do anything with it.

As I recall, the last episode they aired was the pilot! How freaking stupid is that? I've also heard that there was quite a bit of tension between Joss Whedon and Fox, much of which had to do with the Directors the studio forced him to work with. They did not share his vision for character development and relationships.

Unfortunately, I think the odds are against a reboot of the series, especially since the feature film tanked at the box office. You never know, of course. There's still a very loyal fan base out there, but I don't know if it's considered big enough to warrant giving Firefly another try.

I have to say, if they're taking a chance on a Willow series, I can definitely see them doing a Firefly series at some point.

I think the main reason that they wouldn't is that they wouldn't want something to compete with Star Wars and just how Joss Whedon is basically a non-starter for anything at this point. The main cast is all 20 years older, so if they did it, I'm sure they'd do a new cast or something.

I'm hopeful because I loved the sort of western feel to the show, and the cast was so good.
Jan, a few years ago Fillion proposed a new series with a new cast.
Klaatu : 7/6/2022 10:33 am : link
Except for him, of course, lol. That idea got very little traction, though. I think with Willow, fantasy is still pretty strong, what with the success of properties like LOTR and GoT, so I figure the studio hopes to attract that fanbase. Willow also doubled its money at the box office, something that Serenity failed to do.

Zero Zero Zero was one of my favorite shows that I watched last year (i watched it late, it came out in 2020). Wish there was going to be another season because I'll always want more but its also perfect that there isn't, since it doesn't need one.

Just as Basil Rathbone was born to play Sherlock Holmes and Errol Flynn was born to play Robin Hood, David Suchet was born to play Hercule Poirot, and did so for 25 years.

Weird how four years before that streak began, Suchet played Inspector Japp in the TV movie adaptation of Agatha Christie's "Thirteen at Dinner," with Peter Ustinov playing Poirot, a role he played in several movies. Ustinov is a true legend, but I thought his Poirot was a little too over the top. For me, Suchet really captured the essence of the character.
Sitcom-wise I think maybe Cheers & Seinfeld. From the more dramatic

Neither did I before I looked it up. 1989-2013. I think in the UK, though, they only do around six episodes each year.
