NFT: Best deck waterproofers?

GiantCuse : 7/5/2022 7:57 am
Looking for clear waterproofing product that will last a few years and not need to be reapplied every year every 2 years. I living in Central NY so the winters are brutal.
Don’t have a deck

I use

for an eco solution

EcoProCote Acri-Soy

used on my kids playset for many years with good results (was still in good enough shape for a second home after 10 years in the northeast) thompson is probably a little bit more effective in terms of water beading but this stuff works well without the solvents and odor. There is also an eco friendly product out of Buffalo I believe called seal once but I do not have experience with it.

is an excellent finish. Certainly lasts more than one year. I do mine every 2/3 depending.

I had a house on Cape Cod near the water with 6 Decks. I used a number of different products, cheap, expensive. I found that a coat of Thompsons every year was the most effective. 25 years later and the deck boards never cracked or splintered.

I put in trex compsoite for my deck for its low maintenance. But for

myu adirondack chairs and some wooden block steps going into my backyard I use simple Thompson Water Seal. Its goes on very quick/easy with large paintbrush and last 1-2 years.

Have tried other brands like Behr but don't like them because they are too goopy/gluey and sometimes do not soak in enough unless you have prepped the wood and get it bone dry. And then it causes a big mess...

Called the Seal Once people, talked to their tech guy. He claims 3-4 years before I need to clean and refinish with their Marine product.
