The next few days things should start to heat up arounnd the NHL. Teams will be looking to get guys signed or shed salary in order to go after players in FA.
The Rangers need to make moves in order to keep some of their FA's or bring in new players.
The Islanders will look to move Bailey for sure and they have been linked to Forsberg and Gaudreau.
If you see or hear something let us know. Should be an interesting next 2 weeks.

#Isles fans, multiple transactions are looking close. In addition to all the Nazem Kadri chatter, which I believe is valid, some internal house cleaning is also being taken care of. When will all the dominoes fall? That’s up to you-know-who.

im really fascinated to see where this deal comes in $-wise. 3x7m is a popular projection but i think lou will go 1 or 2 years longer to get the aav lower so maybe 5x6m or 4x6.5m? or if Lou really wants to stretch 6x5m?
Malkin got 4x6.1m entering age 36.
Giroux got 3x6.5n entering age 34.
Kadri entering his age 32 would seemingly be reasonable on any of those.
more fascinating will be who they move out of the dot.

Hearing #Flames and Andrew Mangiapane have agreed to terms at 3 years x $5.8 million, avoiding arbitration.
highlights:
Thomas Bordeleau (SJS 2nd round '20)
(what an awful string of luck he's had, hope this works out, fantastic player)
Luke Hughes (NJD 1st round '21)
Logan Cooley (ARI 1st round '22)
Matt Coronato (CAL 1st round '21)
Frank Nazar (COL 1st round '22)
Brett Berard (NYR 5th round '20)
Only 4 holdovers from last year's gold medal team.
Every US player is either drafted or draft eligible in '23 except for Hunter McCown, and not sure he makes it.
Big story, all three US goalies are '23 draft eligible.
I know a lot of people are giving Fitz a hard time over not getting Bratt locked up long term, however it takes 2 to tango. Every other young player on the Devils including Jack, Nico and Siegenthaler has had seamless negotiations on long term extensions. Bratt went to war with them 2 years ago and didn't get signed till the pre-season was over, now this. The Devils have said over and over how much they want to lock him up long term. I wonder if his long term demands have been un-realistic. Oh well they have team control over him for another 2 seasons. I wouldn't be shocked if they trade him at some point, even soon.

I have to disagree with you here Stu. I think Fitzgerald deserves all the heat here. There were just rumors that had the Devils offered $6 million a year long term Bratt would have signed. IMO this is a foolish decision by Fitzgerald to determine if Bratt's performance last season was a fluke or not. I am extremely confident that Bratt will perform like that for years and it will end up costing the Devils $7 million or more to lock him up long term now. I don't understand how you can give Palat 6x6 but play hardball with your 24 year old star wing.
I saw that and for some reason I thought it was his kid's cake, the fact it was his makes it even more awesome.

Yeah but why is this coming up just with Bratt? He has had no problem with negotiations on LTD's with anyone else? Bratt's agent has no other high profile clients and this is his big pay day and wants every last nickel and I have a feeling he's convinced Bratt of that too. I bet Bratt turned down something like 6 mill/per wanting to bet he could make more in UFA.
Some big names possibly becoming free agents.
Pasta, MacKinnon, Larkin, a couple more.
maybe none of these guys winds up UFA's so it's a longshot, but I see some wacky stuff with RFAs sometimes.
Maybe Bratt only wanted a bridge deal and NJD wanted to extend him long-term.
Maybe vice versa.
Either way, because he's an RFA again after the season, the Devils control his destiny. Which is not a terrible spot to be in. Worst case? What it costs another million or so for 2023-2024?
Maybe Bratt only wanted a bridge deal and NJD wanted to extend him long-term.
Ding ding ding
From what I read this very possibly the case. I'm telling you Jay don't be so quick to blame Fitz here. Why would he suddenly play hardball here while not doing it with anyone else? I think Bratt has it in his head he wanted a 2 year deal and didn't want to give up his shot at UFA.
Yeah saw that. Wow that's $$$$ Ok guess it's a huge tax to get one of these stars to stay in Calgary? If they get Weegar locked up too they did real well in that deal.
That deal is for waaaay too much money. Calgary trying to save face after two American stars wanted out
He is IMO one of the more underrated stars in the league.
Overshadowed by teammates (like Barkov), but he was a calder winner and an all-star in his own right. He is a consistent producer
I think it's a good way for CAL to save face, signing a star long-term and while I don't think he's better than Tkachuk all around, I can see Huberdeau outperforming Gadreau and being the face of the franchise type player.
The only reason i think it's too much is the same reason I think Panarin makes too much - I would only pay centers this high.
The one thing I'll disagree with is being in Canada is one thing, but Huberdeau is from Quebec - it's about as similar to Calgary as it is to Africa. It's not like Huberdeau went "home". He was closer to home in Miami

He is back in his home country and playing where hockey matters - clearly he is happy with it since he signed the contract

The contract most likely spoke louder than a Canadian city not really close to anything else

Really? Then why didnt Gaudreau sign and stay there? Why did the Flames know that Tkachuk wasnt going to sign there?
It's no secret that I'm not a fan of Wood but I won't complain at that number. I was worried that the Devils were going to give him a 3-4 year deal. Hopefully he stays healthy and the Devils can flip him at the deadline for a mid round pick.

Jay can breath easy now. All joking aside the are now right up against the cap, but with 5 expiring deals in Johnson,Tatar, Wood, Severson and Graves. I would think Johnson with a 4+mill hit has to go to give them some wiggle room.

Yeah if the Devils are out of it at the deadline they will have some interesting potential rentals to move in Severson, Graves, Wood, Johnsson, and Tatar.

Read your post wrong, sorry. I do think it was a combination of things, but him being Canadian combined with the contract is a different situation than JG or MT.
He is a good player too.

pj is the happiest Rangers fan about this.
My typical response: “No. He’s actually much nicer.”
My job presents the privilege of getting to see people behind the scenes when the cameras are off. In those moments, you get to observe who people really are, for better or worse. These moments are when Crosby is at his best. He treats people who are down on their luck better than he shoots a backhand.
So many snapshots of Crosby treating people well are in my mind that I could transform this from an article into a book. A few years back in Minnesota, after a Penguins loss, Crosby was chatting with a child in a wheelchair when I entered the postgame dressing room. Twenty minutes later, when I walked past the same hallway, Crosby was sitting on the floor so he could be closer to eye level with the child, still talking away. I bring this story up because there are hundreds of a similar nature.
This is the guy who goes to Children’s Hospital regularly to visit patients but doesn’t want the notoriety. He’s the person who takes rookies out to dinner so they don’t feel alone in a new city.

thanks for sharing this. I was reading some advanced stats/analytics over the past few weeks and sure Crosby has slipped a little from his prime, but most stats show he's still solidly a top 5 player in the league.
and I'm a root for laundry guy in general for all sports, but Crosby is one of the rare few who crosses over into role model off the ice (though I tread lightly here b/c it violates my own "code").
As a coach, Crosby is my most frequently cited player and video clips shared. Ask any of my kids the average length of a Sidney Crosby shift from the 2010 Olympics. They all know it (and eye roll when I ask/remind them)
I've always thought Crosby was the best but Malkin was more exciting to watch. Crosby is incredibly efficient.
Plus we share a birthday (thanks for forgetting everyone).
