Good opener, USA shouldn't really be tested until the Sweden game, but you know how that goes. As defending champs it's an advantage in the brackets (it's always prior year's results) so USA (#1) is with Sweden (#4) when Canada, Finland, and what would have been Russia are all together. instead of Russia the Czech's move up to their spot. No "big 5" this year because of Russia not being included.

I would not be shocked if that number was over 5, maybe over 6.

lou keeps things unbelievably under wraps and he did this last year where he held all his contracts until training camp - palmieri's UFA extension, Parise's UFA deal, i think even Czikas' UFA extension and maybe others im forgetting.

my guess is most of this was smoke and mirrors to get Dobson extended and not make him an easy mark on an offer sheet - because he was a really good target to poach. A Sergachev type offer sheet would have been hard to match and only cost a 1st, 2nd, 3rd.

My cousin is a diehard Islanders fan and I told him this last offseason. I explained how Lou did the same exact thing to the Devils over his final 5+ years and left them with very little at the NHL level and arguably the worst farm system in the game. Luckily for Islander fans they already have some very good players at the NHL level in Barzal, Dobson, Sorokin, Pelech, Pulock, Pageau, and Nelson.
