The next few days things should start to heat up arounnd the NHL. Teams will be looking to get guys signed or shed salary in order to go after players in FA.
The Rangers need to make moves in order to keep some of their FA's or bring in new players.
The Islanders will look to move Bailey for sure and they have been linked to Forsberg and Gaudreau.
If you see or hear something let us know. Should be an interesting next 2 weeks.

The bad news is Bruins draft pick Fabian Lysell looks like he's going to be a good player.
Latvia ties up Sweden. 1 - 1 after 2.
still tied at 1.
I think if Latvia wins, Canada cake walks to the finals.
They play the Swiss in the QF and then they'd play Latvia in the semis (I believe)
about halfway through the 3rd, Sweden leads Latvia 2 - 1
He looked good, that line is awesome that he's on, he was decent on the dots - not as dominant as he had been other games, I don't remember him hitting the scoresheet, but he looked good.
When did Hughes get hurt? Is this a lingering injury?
EJ Hradek is a nice guy, wtf is he doing trying PbP commentating 25 years into a talking head career?
This is the game
Czechs won the wall and were more physical. They deserved it.
the gap isn't as wide as some think - especially when you get really good or really questionable goalie play.
but the US, despite the soft goal was outworked this whole game. The Czechs played like it was a game that mattered and the US played like they just needed to show up and they'd win.
this is on coaching as much as anything.
Also, I'm unclear how the US made the decision to cut Lane Hutson. Other than Hughes there was no offensive creation from the point.
Hutson may be too small to thrive in the NHL (not sure) but he is perfect for tournaments like this.

Hearing Nazem Kadri will be a Calgary Flame
depending on the $ i think this may be a bullet dodged for nyi.

Not saying it’s def happening, but if Sean Monahan is moving from Flames, there’s a distinct possibility it’s to Montreal. Some buzz on this came my way a few weeks ago. We’ll see what happens, but CGY appears to be working on something re Monahan/Kadri as @KevinWeekes
suggested
And then how bad it is for the last 3 will depend on how much the cap opens up and how healthy he is.
But that's a contract for a "win now" team who is willing to have a bad contract/buyout in exchange for a 2C kind of below market or at worst at market for the next few years.

So he got like a million more per than Trocheck did and Kadri is the better player (albeit a bit older)

Aren't the Canadiens pressed against the cap? How could they afford Monahan? Seems like Chicago or Arizona make more sense (does Manahan have a NTC?)

M-NTC (10 team), cap space is fungible to an extent, but yes the Habs have no space.
Monahan is a UFA after the season.

So who are they getting rid of to make room for Monahan? I don't think they can put Carey Price on LTIR right now, can they? Do they trade Dvorak already?

A "bit" older? 3 years is a lot when talking about being 32 vs 29. And it was 1.375M less per year. Kadri's deal will look bad in two or three years when he is 34/35

LOL, how many times does he tape his stick? and I'm surprised he doesn't have people to do that for him. I always felt like if I ever made it to the NHL that was one of the biggest perks - people would tape my stick for me.
I started cold showering before games in high school. I read in a fitness magazine that it helps loosen the muscles and get the heart rate up. My coach thought I was insane but by the end of my Jr year half the team did it.
I never really cared. I was the guy whose tape/stick blade looked like my stick was pulled out of a wood chipper.
And no matter how great my tape job was before the game, after one shift it was mangled again.
Hope not Suzuki.
Carey Price plus?

Yeah, I don't care as long as it's taped, lol. I do want black tape, though.

The Islanders do not needa C. They Barzal, Nelson, Pageau and Casey. If the Islanders had signed him one of those were not going to be playing C next year. The Islanders need a legit scoring winger plain and simple.

to CAL, I didn't realize how bad the injuries effected Monahan's career. I guess maybe the Habs LTIR him.

for like the past 20 yrs. but at least old man Lou has brought the clean shaven dress professional brand to the isles. 🙄
Moving Nelson or Barzy to the wing
I think a lot of it is Lou is tight lipped, does late signings and Kadri was still around. People just put those things together and ran with it

smoke to NYI if they had no interest in a C?
Moving Nelson or Barzy to the wing
Or this. Just because they had 4 if you get a better one you move the 4th to another spot. It is not like they have to have another. If you can upgradea position you do it. That being said I hope they focus on someone who puts the puck into the net and extending Dobson.
Lou supposedly loved Kadri as a Leaf and it seems like they definitely did have a comparable offer out there for him in some stage (whether it was just a discussion or an actually offer he chose not to take who knows).
in the end the isles are again a bridesmaid, but im a lot less broken up about this one than Panarin or Gaudreau. Those were the real misses (especially Gaudreau since they probably could have stretched to match CBJ's offer).
that's why JT Miller seemed like a very logical fit when that rumor surfaced at the draft since he can kind of play a little bit of both next to Barzal.
the isles main need is finding a winger who fits with barzal as good as eberle did. that was the big loss last year. Palmieri, Parise, Wahlstrom, all tried but didn't work out. Had they signed Kadri the big question would have been how they envisioned his role, with barzal or not? who played center? Gaudreau was a much more natural answer to that question (as would be Kane, i'd give up next year's 1st++ without thinking twice for him). Or maybe they revisit miller.
It's certainly debatable. But going back a few weeks ago to when Gaudreau left in FA and Tkachuk requested a trade and thinking they'd have to blow it up to now, it's a massive recovery by Treliving IMO.

100% agree. I look at 'dreaus as cancelling each other out. I'd actually possibly take Huberdeau's game as the better bet to age well but there's nothing tangible behind that other than him having been the more consistent player year to year.
Tkachuk has a big age gap on Kadri, but they got more position value, weegar, and a future first to help cover that value disparity.
about as you can expect to do when your friends abandon you in a dark alley as you're getting held up at gunpoint.
