The next few days things should start to heat up arounnd the NHL. Teams will be looking to get guys signed or shed salary in order to go after players in FA.
The Rangers need to make moves in order to keep some of their FA's or bring in new players.
The Islanders will look to move Bailey for sure and they have been linked to Forsberg and Gaudreau.
If you see or hear something let us know. Should be an interesting next 2 weeks.
Wright is probably the best player, but will be under immense pressure, so even if his career starts out like Lafreniere's (or even Hischier's) the reaction would be more like him being a complete bust and in MTL everything is amplified - even more than NY.
I think Slafkovsky may have the highest ceiling, but his floor is way too low IMO for #1 or #2 - but I think those two go 1/2.
I just love Cooley, almost every aspect of his game and going #3 obviously has so much less pressure and Jiricek is being dinged by the injury but is a future top pair D.

Same here, to be honest I wish that the Devils had the 3rd pick to land Cooley allowing Montreal or another team at 2 to roll the dice on Slafkovsky.
The Devils would be absolutely loaded at center moving forward with Hughes, Hischier, Cooley, Mercer, Boqvist.
Add to it players like Yurov who is probably a top 10 talent, but won't go until late 1st or later makes it more interesting.
I like the 2023 draft, but this is a great draft to have some mid-late 1st's to early to mid-2nd's
Some like Cutter Gauthier could wind up the best player or maybe it's Savoie or any one of a handful of others who get picked outside the top 5. It's not just a knock on the lack of an elite top n, it's a compliment on the quality of the players worthy of 1st round status. IMO.

Ron Hextall said the Penguins are close to re-signing Kris Letang and he’s hopeful they can get it done before leaving Montreal. They aren’t as close with Evgeni Malkin but he said the intention remains to re-sign them both.

He was all but traded last offseason. Maybe it'll finally come to fruition.

yeah, and he was coming off the shoulder injury, should be little doubt this year he seems healthy.
I see a lot of teams beat writers suggesting their team should trade for him, but no one saying the Jets will trade him. two years off a Vezina - (3 top 5 finishes in 5 years), still under 30 and has two years left at $6.1M - he will be expensive if WIN tears it down.

; 25M+ Cap Sace, available, leading Pts scorer Bratt is in line for a new deal between 6.75M- 7+ AAV. Also they have #2 Overall pick tomorrow, they could be very active.

about Connor Hellebuyck being available? If he is available that is someone I would want the Devils to go all out for.

Yes he would be expensive but worth it IMO. I would be willing to part with Blackwood or Daws plus Shakir Mukhamadullin, Janne Kuokkanen, and a 2023 1st round pick.

Wow he is really going out on a limb there. Of course they will be active they have a lot of cap space and a huge hole in net plus they could use another forward and defenseman.

Upon hearing about the arrest of Ivan Fedotov, Kirill Kaprizov reportedly immediately returned to the United States. His name is linked to fraudulent military IDs being sold to players, including Fedotov, and Kaprizov is now wanted in Russia, per Sport-Express.
According to Wild GM Bill Guerin, the report that Kaprizov has returned from Russia is inaccurate, and he's still there. Guerin says they're not too worried, but they're also a bit in the dark.

Tom Fitzgerald: "Luke Hughes will return to the University of Michigan for 2022-23."
I am sharing unverified information and wanted to clarify that in advance....they're all rumors until they're not.
- Have made a substantial offer to Bratt, he is in no way on the trading block
- Have not received any serious offers at all for #2, just kicking the tires kind of stuff, said few teams have the resources to entice us
- "Lindy Ruff is our coach" (ughhhh!)
- Luke Hughes is returning to U of M this season (no shocker) he's not going to Devil's rookie camp, instead will be going to the US camp for the Junior WC this summer
- Miles Wood still not skating Fitz says he's not concerned, but this is concerning to me hips are no joke for hockey players)

Tom Fitzgerald: "Luke Hughes will return to the University of Michigan for 2022-23."
This was expected. I’m glad that he’s going back for another year as he needs to add muscle to his frame but he will sign as soon as Michigans season ends just as Owen Power did.
any guesses on over/under on 1st round picks traded today? I say if the O/U is 2, I'll take the over.
-Julie seems pretty connected and she's more and more convinced the Habs are taking Slaf. Montreal management is having breakfast with him this morning
-The feeling is if Slaf goes #1 the Devs are NOT taking Wright. All of them felt the Devs take one of the right handed D probably Nemec. The feeling is Nemec might be able to play in the NHL this year he's that good. Friedman thinks the Devs shop the pick heavy if Slaf is gone
-Friedman says trade talk is heavy but that teams are desperately trying to clear cap space and that the key is just how much teams are going to have to pay assets wise to clear that space. He said Buffalo, Chicago and maybe Anaheim will be key teams willing to take on $$
-the goalie market is being stalled by everyone waiting to see if Fleury and Kuemper stay with their teams
-Friedman says Miller is the most likely to get dealt today but that Chicago really wants to get into the first round and DeBrincat is definitely being shopped for that. He also thinks St. Louis is up to something but they have to clear space
- Friedman said the McDonough waiver threat is absolutely legit, though Columbus denies agreeing to claim him but that they were in on trade talks for him and wanted him.
He also said the threat is being used on another player but he didn't have confirmation on the player and that the process wasn't as easy for that player
Should be a fun day! Interesting that it seems like it's Slaf then the D on the Devs' board. Not Wright or Cooley
@NYP_Brooksie
If Wright is available at No. 2, can the Rangers make a trade with the Devils for that pick? What is the price? Would Kakko and Nils come close?
@SunGarrioch
The most active teams listening on their picks: No. 2 (New Jersey), No. 3 (Arizona Coyotes), No. 7 (Ottawa Senators) and No. 13 (New York Islanders). Lots of moving parts #Sens #nhldraft2022
My gut says they'd use some return to maybe look at Miller or Tkachuk.

Lots of speculation linking Chychrun to the 2nd pick and maybe Ottawa’s 7th. Senators seem less likely because of their LD, but anything is possible. Devils could use Chychrun.

No way. If Fitzgerald proposes that, owners should fire him on spot.
Chychrun is on an awful Arizona team, has had injury issues and is expecting a big contract.
I doubt MTL values Slaf so much they can't pass on taking him.

I agree. I want Wright or Cooley at 2 if Slaf goes 1 but I would much rather see the Devils take Nemec or Jiricek rather than trade the pick for chychrun.

I also believe there is a good chance the Chicago Blackhawks trade Alex DeBrincat today."
Maybe the Devil's have something working for a goalie today?

I will be very surprised if they don’t acquire a goalie by the end of the draft. I have no idea which one as they have been tied to several of them
