The next few days things should start to heat up arounnd the NHL. Teams will be looking to get guys signed or shed salary in order to go after players in FA.
The Rangers need to make moves in order to keep some of their FA's or bring in new players.
The Islanders will look to move Bailey for sure and they have been linked to Forsberg and Gaudreau.
If you see or hear something let us know. Should be an interesting next 2 weeks.
Yep if Chicago waited 3 hours they'd be on the clock right now
I'm ok with it but you should always take BPA in the NHL draft.

Nemec is an absolute stud. Devs are loaded at C.

That's the thing from what I've been reading I think they may have. Nemec is a stud. Right handed 1st pairing Dmen are like gold
I do think COVID and all the stops and starts hurt him and much of this class, and I fear that passing on him will come back to haunt these teams.

I wanted Wright or Cooley but I have no problem with a RD with top pairing potential. If he's as good as they hope then the Devils future D pairing of Luke Hughes and Nemec can be very special. Nemec could make the Devils team this year.

Seattle lucked out. Now they land Wright to join Beniers.

#Habs send Alexander Romanov and No. 98 overall to #isles for No. 13 overall.
I wanted Wright and I loved Romanov.

The #habs have made two trades:
** Alexander Romanov and pick 98 to N.Y. Islanders for pick 13
** Picks 13 and 66 to Chicago for Kirby Dach

Pj, what do you think of the trade for Isles
Link - ( New Window )
Dach was picked #3 in 2019 and is big at 6’4”…..and maybe is ready to bust out. Maybe Vincent Lecavalier loves him and highly recommended him too.
And Habs do have a ton of Dmen prospects who need a slot. Romanov was a good hitter but maybe Habs felt not much else I suppose.

They had a very rough year, including losing players in the offseason and their star goaltender missing most of the year under difficult circumstances. They ended up last in the league and therefore had the best odds in the draft lottery.

I love Romanov, he is one of those players who you can tell just loves hockey. This was his 2nd season in the NHL and he hits like a truck. He struggled at times, but he was also playing top minutes as a 2nd year player. More after the Chiarot trade.

Now he pairs with Dobson on 2nd pair behind Pelech and Pulock
2021 was an unusual year to get to the SCF. but they lost their captain (Shea Weber - for his career), goalie (Carey price) backup goalie (Jake Allen) for long stretches and in FA lost their 1C (Phillip Danault) and led the NHL in man games missed to injury, but also where I started 2021 was a strange year.
I think MTL set a record since this became a stat.

I think NYI fans will love him. If you're patient.
I wonder if being from Russia had anything to do with the trade. Strange stuff going on there with hockey players.
Yeah, he played LD. I don't know if I ever saw him play RD.

The Sharks have traded the No. 11 pick to Arizona for picks No. 27, 34 and 45.

guessing left since he's a lefty and that's the islanders bigger need?
Yeah, he played LD. I don't know if I ever saw him play RD.
thanks any comp to a more established player? he sounds a little mcDonagh-ish or is that off base?
also gut you think he ends up a legit top pair or more of a top 4?
The named 4 defensemen are all highly regarded. Maybe Romanov was a surplus they could afford to acquire a player of a bigger need…..A BIGGER CENTER.

top pair player IMO (if he continues to develop). Not flashy offensively so you partner him with a puck mover but he's more than a stay-at-home guy. I do think his offense will grow, but his penchant for playing the body is what fans will love. He would hit anyone at any time and some old school hip checks too.
Early in the season he was making a lot of positional mistakes, but by the end of the season you could definitely see him start to get comfortable.
I think he would have been top pair on MTL. He should be 2nd pair with NYI for now, and I do think he can play the hard minutes, but he's not a finished product.
He played PK on MTL too and did well.
he's a better skater than McDonagh IMO without quite the IQ McDonagh has, I can't think of a perfect comp, but he's a solid 2-way defenseman (or will be). I did not want to trade him.
they're having a heck of a draft.
Savoie and Ostlund and one more 1st round pick.
I feel like there is a resurgence coming back to the Sega hockey days when BUF was stacked with players like Mogilny, Lafontaine, Hawerchuck, Hasek, etc.
smaller and better skater, but production wise yeah - a lefty Hamonic I could see. I do think he can be a 40 point player on D if used the right way.
obviously a gamble though.
Ivan Miroshnichenko - filthy mitts on that kid. He would have gone top 5 but he has non-hodkins lymphoma.
Caps roll the dice, could be a steal.
obviously a gamble though.
I was thinking the same thing. Come on Devils trade up for this kid.
I just read someone bring up Darius Kasparaitis - probably a decent comp for Romanov. I think Romanov will score more than that, but the physicality is very similar.
