Taillon vs. Quintana

Think the Yankees will wear those awful 4th of July hats tonight?
Probably yes on the hats

I have some friends who are Pirate fans and I feel so bad for them. Talk about bad owners. Great stadium though.
Quintana will probably

LOL, this!!!

as long as Hicks, Donaldson, and Gallo remain hot...lol...
The funny thing is,
section125 : 7/5/2022 5:21 pm : link
almost every game they have lost is because they still on occasion fail to hit, not because the pitching has given a bunch of runs. Only getting 1, 2, 3 hits and still being "in" games means that if they can probably win at a higher rate if they just hit marginally better.
Has anybody noticed
Carson53 : 7/5/2022 5:29 pm : link
that Florial is having a good season down with SWB.
He still has struck out more than you want, but otherwise having a very solid season. I wonder if Cash has noticed?
That's right, we have to watch our boy, Joey. If the Yanks were five games out, you might see Florial up here?
Hopefully they get this game in tonight, forecast not that good.

arcarsenal : 7/5/2022 5:31 pm : link
I'm pretty sure that the Yankees have only lost one game all year where they didn't bring the tying/winning run to the plate in the 7th inning or later.

Not only has the start been impressive, but almost every single loss was a close game where there was a chance to turn it the other way in the late innings. Basically, no one has just kicked this teams' ass, but this team has done plenty of ass-kicking.

Dying to go to PNC one day. Always hear amazing things about that park.

Best stadium in the game IMHO.
Carlos Beltran made me immediately change to the Pirates broadcast

Where I got to see Bill Mazerowski throw out the first pitch. Pretty cool.

Love this stadium. How about another trade with the Pirates for Reynolds during the series?

Donaldson shows small signs like he might be waking up.. I think he's got a hit in 5 of his last 6 games, but yeah his bat has been disappointing so far. Still hoping he'll pick up in the 2nd half.

Something is off with his swing. He always seems off balance and there just doesn’t like like much power can be generated. He honestly looks like Father Time has caught up with him. His bat speed is non existent

There was discussion in another thread recently--I believe it was the hot-dog eating championship--where baseball is not a sport but rather a "pastime." Daniel Vogelbach would be Exhibit A for that argument.

Does that mean football isn't a sport because of those rather girthy OL and DL that are pushing 350 lbs with 50 inch waistlines?

My dead grandmother is faster than DJ. Not many are scoring on that double, which was hammered. And would you take a chance with Stanton coming up?
Donaldson with a great at bat

I think this is Taillon's 5th crappy start in his last 6. Not great. Thinking the Yanks should definitely be looking at SP's at the deadline.

We have some internal options that are potentially viable, but I'd be trying to add an established starter too.

German is on the horizon. Schmidt is just waiting for a shot and Sears appears to be legit.

We don't need a starter unless Sevy/Cole/Cortes get injured.

We do need another OFer that brings something to the table. Call up Flo already. If he can't hack in a few weeks, pull the trigger for Happ.

This is a season to win the WS. No half-measures.
Pitching Aside
GruningsOnTheHill : 7/5/2022 9:28 pm : link
They can't expect to win too many games scoring just 1 run.
.
arcarsenal : 7/5/2022 9:35 pm : link
I'm good giving Schmidt or Sears a shot.. there's also Waldichuk. But, I do think one of those guys will wind up as down the strech/October BP arms.

Another thing to remember is that they're going to want to keep Sevy's innings capped somewhat. He hasn't had a full workload since 2018 and we're going to need him in the Postseason.

OF is probably the bigger "need" - I'm on record being totally in favor of Happ. I just don't want to see the pitching start to crumble when we need it most.

Beltran is unlistenable. Last night's brilliant tidbit about IKF

"when you're scuffling, you really want to hit the ball hard"

I know this sounds impossible, but Suzyn is even more insufferable WITHOUT Sterling! It's like she thinks she has the green light to run that annoying sewer non stop. Just shut the fuck up and let the p-b-p guy talk.

Don't look now, but Judge's avg. has dropped from .319 to .281 and is batting .135 in his last 11. And it he's not being picked up by the rest of the lineup.

holy shit no joke! I was in the car listening this past week at times and you're right. My god she doesn't shut up when she's not working with Sterling. This Brendan Burke guy is a nice easy listen and I'd love to hear what he has to say, but with Suzyn blathering away with her captain obvious points, besides calling a play he doesn't get word in.

He has been brutal against righthanders this year!
Might be time to give Carpenter some games at 3B.
Then if they have a lead, put Donaldson in for defense.

if they want to get where they want to go I feel.

Josh Donaldson since June 1st..

107 PA's
64 wRC+
.578 OPS
1 HR
8 RBI

This is unacceptably bad–especially for what he's making. I'm definitely concerned his shoulder is in worse shape than we know, or he's simply washing up fast. What's worse is that we're probably just stuck with it...

I keep hoping he'll pick back up, but there's an alarmingly growing sample size of it not happening. Can't have this many zeros in the lineup.

For such team as popular and successful as the yankees they sure have some of the worst broadcasters imaginable.
