Over there? When I see it in Florida teams , Arizona teams , and even California teams — I just assume it’s former NYers. There are really NY transplants in Cincinnati
Yes, they have a lollipop schedule for nearly ALL of June and July, but in the very rare cases that they play some better teams over these two months, they are beating them too.
This 3.5 game lead over the Braves now means nothing to me. We need to fix our warts in the DH role and against lefties if we have any intention of winning the division. Adding Max and deGrom is great, but they ain’t hitting. Maybe deGrom should, lol. I know that they will do something…and I’m very curious as to who they are targeting.
From the beginning of the season through 5/31, the Mets were the best in MLB with RISP with a .294 average (Atlanta was ranked 20th in MLB during this time batting .230).
From 6/1 through today, the Mets are 19th in MLB with RISP and hitting .238 (while the Braves are 6th in MLB batting .270).
It’s not a small sample size. They need to figure some shit out. Trading for one decent hitter to DH isn’t going to fix the rest of the lineup.

good post - you are right 1 hitter won't change everything but more than 1 thing went wrong the last month.
McNeil missed some games. Marte too. Nimmo too. Plummer was a literal auto out replacing them.
Escobar/JDD/Dom all slumped so guillorme had to play too much which got him in a slump.
injured guys are back now but the dh spot is still the biggest impact where change can happen. you cant have a designated hitter not hit.
pitches back to back days. Granted Marte should’ve caught the Pham double but the walk after the intentional walk was inexcusable and basically cost them the ball game.
A pitiful Reds team, with a pitcher coming off a long IL

To my eyes they must have fired the new approach and went all in in analytics when the clock struck midnight and a June began.

don't think there was another option bc Buck says Ottavino was unavailable?
bottomline is any 1-0 loss is on the offense. the bottom 1/3 of the order has been brutal for a month. mind boggling they didn't give vientos a chance a couple weeks ago, and now it seems like they are just trying to justify a bad decision or afraid to reverse themselves or punish anyone at the mlb level like Dom or JDD.
buck and eppler are on a really nice honeymoon because in years past met fans would have been in a frenzy about it just like conforto in 2015 and alonso in 2018.
he's going to be in a similar position. All 3 of the catchers have .500 OPS' right now. There is no reason to keep protecting guys who aren't performing.
Smith looks completely washed as a major leaguer already. Maybe a change of scenery will help him but I have my doubts.
You cannot have the type of production out of the DH spot the team is getting. It's actually pathetic how bad the production from that spot is.
for the year the mets DH has combined to be worth (negative) -.5 FWAR. Triple slash is .220/.297/.326 which are almost as low as Robinson Cano's numbers as a met earlier this year that got him DFA'd. It's odd that accountability stopped with him.

Lol
However, if he suggests Plawecki for DH then he’s getting the same treatment.

what conceivable pedantic box do they need to see him check before realizing his ability to hit the ball very hard is worth it? i get that he k's a lot but he's also very consistently walked. what am i missing?

At this point, I walk out of the room with other things to do at night whenever JD, Smith, or McCann come to the plate...."automatic out" doesn't do them justice. Dom shows some hope since his call-up, but JD (who seems like a good teammate) is on the wrong side of 30 and hasn't been able to catch up with a high heater all season. Enough with this guy....I think he may be DFA'd if and when a trade happens.
Regarding McCann, this is the trouble with bad contracts...not only do you have to pay the guy, but you (at least it seems in every sport) have to play them too, hoping you'll get some ROI...When McCann comes up with runners on and less than 2 outs, I count anything that's not a DP as a win...Nido's swing is too long, but he seems to hit a bit with RISP..
So, if Pete, Lindor, Squirrel, etc, have an off game, there are too many other dead spots to pick them up.
Escobar has been bad too, but shows some signs of life....
Difference between winning the division and getting a wild card
Is either something like getting to host the MIL vs SF series winner with a fresh pitching staff or having to win a best of 3 versus SF/SD/STL and then turning around the next day and travelling to Atlanta to start a series vs them if we're fortunate enough to win the best of 3.
closer could be an option since Jansen is hurt.
2b/utility is another need unless Albies comes back.
but would it be crazy to think that they target one of the top SP's like Luis Castillo?
if only we had someone in the minors slashing .290/.361/.758 for an 1.119 OPS against lefties with nine homers in 72 plate appearances.
[quote] Mets need to beef up their hitting against lefties [/]
I was referring to the Braves.
He’s at 79 through 6. Another inning puts him at about 90-92. I say put him out there with someone like Ottavino or Rodriguez warming up just in case.
Are you basing that on this game?

Is really struggling at the plate lately. Moves need to be made.

This team really needs to figure out their offensive issues.

Three weeks ago they probably score 8 runs.
That Astros thrashing might have left them shook.

All I know is we sure could use his arm in our bullpen right now…
