My wife and I are spending a week in Barcelona with one day committed to a trip to Andorra for reputedly low-tax shopping. Sigh, my wife is a shopper.
We've got a hotel on the beach (Sant Marti area) which is great for her and I already figured to visit the Picasso museum and a couple of the Goudy buildings. My wife has discovered Barcelona is a locus for hand made shoes so I'm guessing that will figure in our plans. Anybody been and have any recommendations?
- La Sagrada Familia
- Guell Palace
- Casa Battle
- Park Guell
- Casa Mila
- Cathedral of Barcelona
- Museu d’Historia de Barcelona
- Placa Reial
- Arco de Triunfo de Barcelona
- Rambla de Mar
- Places to Eat
- Mercado de La Boqueria
- Bodega La Puntual
- Quimet & Quimet
- Museu d'Historia de la Ciutat for the underground Roman ruins
-Santa Maria del Mar Sunday mass
- Sunday: Sardana dancing in front of the gothic cathedral at 11:15
Take the train to see Girona or Terragona if you can.
Anything Gaudi of course.
La Boqueria is a must, tour it but make sure to eat at the right stalls. If you like molecular gastronomy, try to reserve table at Tickets or Disfrutar. But you can’t swing a dead cat and not hit a great restaurant in Barcelona. I especially recommend Canete and Estimar.
Like I always tell people, go check out visitacity and see their sample itineraries. And look at viator for guided tours.
You've gotten all the advice one could need...my 2 cents.
Beware of pick-pockets...I grew up in NYC, so I know to be careful, but the pick pockets in Barcelona are real pros...
Otherwise, enjoy! The Ramblas is total fun!
As already mentioned, go see Gaudi architecture and throw down some sangrias on Las Ramblas. Can’t top the scenery on the beach if your wife is distracted.
Great minds working alike ... I was going to suggest this too but it looks like FCB is away both weekends the OP is likely to be there.

Largest stadium in Europe. Team is down compared to their recent Golden era standards but there is some young world class talent. Their current coach and former player great Xavi has the club again playing a very attack minded style.

LOL yeah I looked in to that but no games during my week.
Have fun! I gotta get back to Spain someday.

Spain is great. Bear in mind it's like nine different countries, not all of which love being governed by Madrid. In Barcelona don't expect your high school Spanish to go too far as they speak Catalan.

Espanyol is another La Liga club located in Barcelona. Just checked their schedule and they host Madrid on 8/28 and Sevilla on 9/11. Bad timing. Those would have been worth trying to get tickets.

We stopped for a couple days there on our honeymoon and stayed in one of the beach towns. When we went to Barcelona, we did a tour of the stadium, which I really enjoyed.
As previous posters have mentioned, anything Gaudi and we really loved walking around La Boqueria. Sampled a ton of food and then finally decided to sit down at Bar Boqueria for a full meal. I still haven't seen oysters the size as I did there.
