So why wife was working out in our upstairs bonus room earlier today and when she finished, she said she heard noises in the attic which is directly above the room. We have a large unfinished attic. I went up and in one of the far west walls of the house we have a large, slotted vent which is covered with screen but apparently, they got in anyway. I saw with a flashlight at least 6 small bats climbing around on the window.
I obviously told my wife not to worry just don’t open the attic door, but she is going to drive me bat shit crazy (pun intended) until I get these flying rats out of here.
Would my regular exterminator service be able to take care of this issue or is there another route I should be looking into?
Appreciate any insight you can provide.
Bats carry rabies and you can be but without even knowing it. I would call a pro.
Nevertheless, somewhat of a pain. Need to trap, seal the attic which can be costly and monitor over next few months. Last thing you want is anything getting comfortable and creating babies...
Bats frighten me. It's time my enemies shared my dread.

This. I’ve had a few issues and what I’ve found effective is invite some friends over at dusk. Watch where they come out and then patch with high density foam where they head out.
If it’s in the screw itself it can be an issue. You want heavy gauge steel grid secured from the outside so they can’t create a slick in. Vacuum up whatever waste you find inside especially if it can get moist. One bat guy I hired years ago used their droppings on tomatoes
Ouch, my ears are bleeding

Ooops! Sorry bout that!
Eventually when I decided to get rid of them, I talked to some pest control people and learned.
It is illegal to disturb bats during certain parts of the year as they are raising their young.
Where I live the bats are migratory, in the fall they leave for the winter.
Therefore wait until they leave, then put screen over all of the gaps in your space. I did this.
Also consider putting up bat houses because having bats nearby is beneficial. However do your research, the easily found bat house solutions are generally poorly done and not that effective. For the proper bat house solutions you have to investigate a bit. It turned out that the only actual proper bat house conditions I have are the very vent where they lived, so I did not attempt bat houses.
Keep us informed of your "exit strategy."
where do you live? We have a service here in Norwalk called All About Bats and Wildlife that specializes in all that kind of stuff. Bats, raccoons, birds, etc.
They can access your house through gaps you wouldn't think possible.
Also, as previously mentioned, bat guano is not something you want accumulating in your house/attic.
There can also be rabies issues.
