I was hoping for 'At the end of the day' reference in the post.

Rolle was a great Giant.

Eli wasn't maddening to all of us. Those of us who were patient in his early years, understood the talent around him including his OL and defense sucked in his later years. Basically, those who didn't have unrealistic expectations weren't maddened by him, imo. I f ing loved him; still do.

He wasn’t maddening to me. I understood early on Eli was driven by high pressure. That’s why our regular seasons were almost always middle of the pack. Until the chips were down, backs against the wall, Eli never felt the pressure. It’s a strange trait, but an absolute MAJOR asset when it comes to playoff football.

On another note, we had some really clutch FA signings under Reese. Rolle, Mitchell, Grant, RW, etc…. None of them were all world, but they were such strong roll players it was beautiful.

The thing I’ll always respect about Manning is what we must have played through to not miss a game.

It’s not like he was magically healthy or lucky. He was just more tough than the average QB and over the course of his career played in games a lot others would not have.

I also think that’s why by the end he had more miles on him than many fans wanted to believe. By 2016 he looked like a guy who was succeeding with his brain and not his body.
He was never maddening to me.

What was maddening was the 2 GMs allowing the OL to deteriorate and wasting his last several years. I truly believe he still had the talent, but the team didn't. Then they thought drafting Barkley with Eli was enough, even though they had a dismal OL and no receivers.

Well, one receiver. But, once he got hurt, there was nobody.

Why was he maddening? Anyway, the players know who the real deals are (and aren't).

Nice words from Antrell and really it highlights the ineptness of the front office. I have used this game before to show where the Giants front office was by the response they had the following draft. Reese/Ross dismantled the physicality of the franchise over time that was priority one when TC came. "We must win the battle of the LOS."

Wellington left TC. Ernie left Eli. The two hardest pieces to find were inherited. Reese chose to call him skittish and scapegoat KG who had warned the front office about the OL already for several years.

Posters continue to try to call when Eli was done. There was little wrong with him. He was still plenty tough. He still had his MIND. What he did not have was a FO who understood him or football. Dave's hail Mary was a failure but the damage was already so deep from years of faulty drafting. 2012-17 was probably the greatest waste of Giants football imv.

Through it all as Rolle says Eli never threw anybody under the bus.

I was a big fan of Archie Manning's when he was at Mississippi
arniefez : 8/2/2022 8:39 am : link
he was such a fun player to watch. All my friends chose national teams to root for in the 70s. Cowboys. Vikings. Steelers. Raiders. I was a Giants (always no matter what) and Saints fan while Archie was there. 1970s football was rough for me.

When Peyton got to TN I rooted for him too and then little brother went to Mississippi and I had another Manning to root for.

I watched this game in 2003 - Eli vs LSU with Nick Saban as HC. It foreshadowed the SF championship game in 2011. After watching that game when the Giants drafted Eli I thought he could play with and beat any team even if his team was undermanned. As frustrating as some of Eli's regular season games were I thought if the Giants surrounded him with complementary players they could win the Super Bowl.

To me, Eli looked great in the 2016 playoff game in GB. He did enough to win that game. The ones who cost us that game were his idiot WRs, who couldn't catch the f ing ball, as they were probably still recovering from their all night boat party in Miami earlier in the week.

Well put, LOS.
It seems Rolle replaced "at the end of the day"

with "on the outside looking in", but nice words. One thing not to overlook is how much of a standup guy Eli was. As Rolle points out, Eli never threw anyone under the bus. losses and mistakes were his fault and success was distributed. To the very last day.

I have nothing but love and gratitude for Eli Manning. (Kind of crazy just how much love and gratitude I have for someone I’ve never met.)

Why do we need to caveat any gratitude for Eli? 1000's of players have dawned the Giants uniform over the years, most were never on a SB team and only a small few of them had a large part in that SB win. It's like people are afraid to admit they like the guy.

The only maddening facet of Eli's career was ownership's utter failure to provide him with a team in his later years.

The defining game for Eli as the consummate playoff QB was that SF game.
“He was getting killed. I kept thinking, I don’t think he’s getting up after that one”

Incredible toughness and yes, he never threw a teammate under the bus. Put it all on himself. (In NY for that many years, almost impossible).
