Both appear to be having the worse camps in these daily updates. Either Gano is the worst tackle on the planet or ximines, roche and smith are the the next coming of LT.
Never recall seeing either of them play, but a few months ago this Gano guy was hyped up all over this board.
Second of all, he was never "hyped" by anyone on the board. Some, including me, simply pointed out that at one time the Falcons considered him a rising player.
would be fixed in just one year?
Raise your hand.
The Giants will find one or two backup centers. I don’t see a swing tackle. Maybe the 2 rookie guards will also be the backup LT and RT.
First sign that Schoen may not yet be a great judge of talent.

Schoen had to fill four starting OL positions and at least four more backup OL positions and you’re questioning his talent acquisition over guys like Gono and Douglas. WTF!
Yup.
That would make too much sense.

It does get tedious, doesn't it?
Yup.
very much so. to the point that I'm reading the non-football threads more than the football threads.
Remember that Douglas and Gono were signed as free agents pretty early. I’m not criticizing the signings. Just saying Schoen is going to learn on the job as he goes along.

What is there to learn, not to address the team's most glaring weakness as quickly as he can, with the limited resources on hand?
Next man up as my coaches used to say...
Drafted Neal? Never mind that. What about signing Glowinski? Yesterday's news. Feliciano? He's just a Center. Ezeudu? No clue how to pronounce his name.
So, let's focus on Gono.
The reality is that Gono is a young T with upside who can also play G in a pinch. He's not great, but he also was never expected to be.
Give it time, things will sort itself out. This coaching staff has no ties to players so they will keep the best of the bunch. Besides Glowinski and the draft picks they are all on vet minimum deals so easy to cut and replace with another backend roster guy.
Gono and Douglas played a combined total of two offensive snaps last year. They are a step up from camp bodies - a fairly small step. Douglas might be a decent backup guard, but he may need to do better at center to make the team. Gono is more of a lottery ticket, with some upside. If he isn't at least a quality backup at RT, however, he has no chance.
The Giants might keep as few as eight OL on cutdown day, plus Gates and possibly Peart on PUP. They can backfill from the waiver wire and the street if the current backups aren't worth keeping. Those late additions won't be good, but they won't be worse.

Yep, that's fair.
Though I warned folks a bit not to put that much weight on that because the Falcons haven't been strong evaluators of talent over recent years (approaching Gettleman levels) and that same team had zero qualms releasing Gono this past offseason too.
In the end, Gono is a guy in camp that we hope doesn't make the roster because we have better alternatives. And that's probably what is playing out this summer with these daily reports on him...

Wow, after six practices, one in pads.

And third, it's Douglas.

To the bottom of the depth chart. The Giants may have 2 or 3 better candidates for backup center-guard than Douglas and I don’t think Gono has a prayer of being the swing tackle unless he has an epiphany. He may have a better chance of sticking as a backup guard.

I miss the good old days of pre-internet when I still thought the majority of humans were somewhat intelligent. Those days are long gone.....sometimes the levels of dumbness amazes me. As you said...this comment after ONE practice in pads.
But we'll try to keep up with guys like you John...
