May and Givens are in the bullpen for Nogosek and Lopez. Which is why those two were used last night, because Buck knew they were going down today so save the regulars for today and the Braves series
Braves already lost to the Phillies, really need to win today to go up 3.5 heading into the Atlanta series

Amen. Today's game is actual big for us. Can't lose a series to these turkeys either.
Seems like the guys aren't taking things lightly/looking ahead to the Braves series. Bassitt only has thrown 38 pitches too through 8, putting him on pace throw his 100th pitch in the 8th inning.
Meant Bassitt has thrown 38 pitches through 3 innings.
It would. I always have my thoughts about Sandy' involvement and his son's, but that's for another thread. So glad we have an owner who is smart, loaded, and willing to spend.

I trust Cohen. Best thing is this: he's one of us--a diehard Mets fan. He's also got his eyes on keeping the franchise on stable trajectory going into the future. I'm gonna enjoy how the organization operates in the minors, player acquisition, development, etc. Can't wait to see Batty and Alvarez in the next year or two.
At this rate, he's on pace to give us 8 innings today, assuming his limit is 100. It'd be great to give the pen a rest prior to the start of the Braves series tomorrow night at Citi.
Mets couldn't score more than a run yesterday for deGrom in a loss to the worst team in baseball, but score 8 runs in a blowout so far today. SMFH. Nats' bullpen wasn't even active last inning. This might get worse than it already is, lol.
on a team's 26 these days. Yes, we fell short at that position, but aside from that I love our deadline. We massively upgraded positions of need for cheap and kept all of our top prospects.
Bassitt's done for the day. His line's as follows (94 pitches):
RBI record is 124. Shared by Piazza (1999) and Wright (2008).
Alonso has 88 with 58 games left.
I think he can break it.
He already owns the franchise single-season HR record.
If he doesn't break it, it will be a disappointment. He's well ahead of pace.
He is projected at 135. Of course individual accomplishments mean little, but it's still cool.
And what's weird is I don't think he gets nearly the love from fans that Piazza or Wright did.
Maybe winning a WS would change that. Obviously, neither Wright nor Pizza did that.
I think he's pretty damn popular...have to wait for some kids who love him to get a little older. The baseball team I coached down here outside of Philly...5-6 year olds...3 of 10 said their favorite player was Polar Bear
Yep. Gary was right on the telecast: we could a position player pitching for the Nats in the Top of the 9th. What a joke that we lost to these clowns yesterday. I said to myself, "watch the Mets score ten runs today, or something like that" after Jake's start yesterday.
trade deadline additions: Jake, May, McCann (soon), and then Megill at the end of the month. I ain't missing Drew Smith btw, lol!
I actually like Drew Smith...but as others have said he may just be another Hansel Robles who has amazing stuff when at his best but just too inconsistent
We added Vogelbach, Ruf, Naquin, Givens, deGrom, May, and McCann

I think you need to take in consideration that Drew Smith before the injury was pitching well, we don't know how that affected him and its not fair to assume his last 6 weeks of pitching is his true form.
We also had no idea he was pitching injured either.

I'd like to replace the bottom of the pen with Smith and Megill and DFA Hunter and J Rod, LH relievers be damned.
3 and a half up with a game in hand to boot. Need to win this five game series against the Bravos coming up in Queens. Send those turkeys another message.

Like I said on Sunday... Would sign up for 2/3 from Nats and 3/5 from Braves

lol. You heard that too from the Mets' crew?
Yes!.
Yes!.
Say what you will about Vogelbach, he has a quick swin...

what the Mets did yesterday has very similar feeling to what the Braves did last year.

also similar to LAD finding guys like Muncy and Chris Taylor. Specific skill sets that fit their philosophy.
May's up in da pen.

Its a blow out. Players are coming out.

Looked solid
Honestly if we made a trade for a guy with Mays history we would have considered it a decent add to the pen

Gonna miss J.D. Wish him the best. Givens is on now.
We don't want him doing this against Atlanta.
Also Nimmo..
Just in time for a stretch run.

The Lord Givens and the Lord takens. I guess.

Very spiritual and philosophical. :)
LOL.
I think it's "no refunds, all sales are final".
Mets ERA?? 5 runs in 0.2 innings is like a 68 era
Like I said on Sunday... Would sign up for 2/3 from Nats and 3/5 from Braves

Hard to imagine it being worse
Handed a 9-0 lead and the guy can't close the deal? Truly an awful performance
