I'm not going to overreact to some of the negative clips we see of Neal.
A lot of these 1v1s in the trenches are advantageous to defenders. He's also going up against a very impressive rusher.
I'm happy the Giants have a RT

Neal looked more comfortable in run blocking from jump on Monday. The 1-on-1 drills and all the work without pads, as you said, favors the defense.
That's what makes Andrew Thomas' work vs. Thibodeaux and others even more impressive.

One of the ongoing things to watch throughout #GiantsCamp & preseason is how they develop depth on the interior DL
How many will they roster? 6 or 7? After Leonard and Dex they have a nice mix of vets and young players to rotate in:
Veterans: Justin Ellis (9 yrs), Nick Williams (8), Jaylen Holmes (5) and
Young guys: David Moa (1), DJ Davidson (R), Christopher Hinton (R), and Ryder Anderson (R).
Maybe a couple of the vets could be decent or better, and some youngsters show enough promise to stick around to be part of the rebuild down the line.
6 of the 7 were brought in by the current staff, and there are no long term bad contracts.
I’m sure the offense was happy it wasn’t another 3rd and long day.
Very happy to see Jones have a great day and very happy to see Taylor shine as well. We all know Jones can get injured on a run in which he didn’t slide so Taylor may have to spell him for a while.
Breida is a great pickup but also has injuries in his resume. Let’s hope he too can stay on the field.
I for one am not concerned about our WRs assuming they stay healthy. And when Shep comes back, that’s another. Golladay’s height is an advantage. When he is in single coverage with a much shorter CB, throwing it up for him to fight for makes sense.

The could conceivably keep as few as five, which the Ravens did for a couple of years when Wink was the LB coach and then the DC. That would allow them to keep an extra LB or DB (or both), although the line is kind of blurry with a guy like Ward. Is he a DE or LB, and does it really matter what you call him?

In the tweet thread, I said that Jalyn Holmes playing with the ones was an interesting development. His career has been pedestrian at best, although he did have a little success for a year when he played for Coach Patterson. He's definitely a guy to keep an eye on in the preseason, however I think it's safe to say DE will be a priority get in 2023.
I figure Davidson has the inside track to stick since he was a draft pick, but he could get pushed by Hinton or one of the vets. Again, a couple of guys to keep an eye on.
Klaatu: I'm not sure DE will be a priority in 2023.
Barring injury or a shakeup (cap cuts, a trade, moving Lawrence inside, etc.), Leonard Williams and Dexter Lawrence will still be the top 5-technique DEs. There's young talent at EDGE with Thibodeaux, Ojulari, and Smith; we'll see how those guys develop, and how often they line up at DE.
If things go according to plan, 2023 could look a lot like 2022 at DE. Schoen will still have to fill depth chart holes with guys like Jihad Ward, Jalyn Holmes, and Nick Williams, but the main guys could be the same. At any rate, all five are under contract.
By the way, it's good to read encouraging tweets about Holmes. The first DL off the bench will get a decent number of snaps even if the Giants' recent good injury luck on the DL continues, and he'll be a key guy if it doesn't. Martindale seems committed to Jihad Ward as an OLB, so Holmes has the first crack at that primary backup role - or even more if Lawrence is taking snaps on the nose.
Just looking at a few of the guys the Bills drafted early in the past couple of years - Epenesa, Rousseau, Basham - coupled with the possibility that they won't keep Williams, and I figure DE will be a priority. Maybe not as high a priority as CB (or QB, let's face it), but still up there. We'll see.
pass rushers this early isn't a huge surprise, but it does sound like the running game has ticked up from the limited info we've been getting, and I've got to believe Neal has a part in that.
Neal had some struggles with his balance in pass protection
in a handful of SEC games I watched...so not a surprise he needs to develop that part of his game. He had a lot of games where he excelled as well.
What was surprising, at least to me, was early draft projections had him as a clear overall #1 pick. I always thought of him as a top 10 pick but not all the way up there.
But man, did we need another Tackle in the worst way. No problem exercising some patience here but hope he stays healthy, gets plenty of snaps and turns into the goods by Year 2...
Klaatu - Agreed, the history in BUF suggests high priority on DE.
Worth noting that Frazier and McDermott are both 4-3 base coaches, which probably influences positional value. And, as you say, there may be critical needs elsewhere as Schoen assembles the 2023 roster.

Friggin Garrett and Judge, I throw it up for grabs to Golladay all the time in 3rd and long. In Madden. Low percentage chance its intercepted its effectively a punt.
Good to hear nothing of AT and his "injuries" and he's putting ERs to sleep to as usual.
what is going on with Ojalari? He is on some non-football list? What's the deal there, anybody know? I guess that backup lineman (Gono) left camp as well, doesn't help a guy like him.

Ojulari was hurt while working out on his own before camp opened.
