Does possession of weed still get jail time? Texas is the worst.
One still should not bring it on flights, because you're traveling across state lines, and it's a federal crime. A lot of people who live in states where it's legal seem to forget this.
but you have to be really stupid to think you can fly with 6 ounces. This isn’t a joint he forgot in his bag, 6 ounces is a fuck ton of weed to just casually stroll through an airport with.

with American Airlines, apparently over having his seat downgraded without compensation.
AA replied to the tweet, saying they would fix it once he completed his itinerary.
Seems they might not have do that now.

@AmericanAir just sent a private message literally saying they can’t do anything. And have to decline any requests I’ve made for reimbursement or refund. Y’all are awful. If y’all the only option—-I’m not coming. Bad business for sure

We've offered to make an adjustment on the downgrade once the travel has been completed. Meet us back in DMS after travel is completed.

It appears some of you are completely clueless as to who controls airport security…
I know in VA, if TSA finds it (or other illegal things) they call the local authorities (at DCA it'd be Arlington PD) and they handle it and enforce the laws of the county/state.

Not at all, you're the one who's confused. TSA found the pot and notified local authorities. The charges he's facing are state charges, and have nothing to do with the federal agency in charge of airport security.

TSA does…but they refer you to local authorities. In this case local Texas police would respond and arrest, etc. in California, colorado, etc he would prob not have been arrested. Prob just a fine. NJ you can have up to 3 oz (with medical card). Not sure if they would arrest for more. But to be clear, the TSA doesn’t do any arresting for this. It is referred to the local folks.

But people have been arrested for transporting a gun through NYC when they were just driving on I 95 from one state where they had a permit to another state where it is legal. Were not stopping in NY at all but got pulled over for some other vehicular offense
You have to be smarter than that - 6oz is almost $2k worth of bud, it's a pretty large brick. You try and sneak that through TSA, you're probably not going to get far.
I dream of a day when no one is arrested for possession of marijuana. It's absurd.
But right now, things being what they are, Shump made a pretty bad call.
But, we don’t get to choose what laws we follow or don’t. And I have to agree with some previous posts that we live in a great country where he’s not going straight to jail for a long time. I’ve been traveling a lot out of country and we have it so good here. It’s easy to forget.
Insane the police and prosecutors have time to bother with this when violent crime is rising everywhere. Asinine.
TSA is obligated to call the police, and the police are obligated to arrest him. I’m assuming very little police or prosecutorial time will be spent on this case. It certainly won’t be the same resources that investigate violent crimes.
The ridiculous part is if he goes to jail. That’s a resource suck with no upside to society.
In Texas 80% of people support medical use, and 60% support recreational use. In the time I lived in Texas I found the government policy to be very unrepresentative of public sentiment.

Is weed really that much these days? Last time, I bought it was $180 an ounce. Inflation hits everybody

Traveling with 6oz is just classic stupid.
He needs to get 2 years just to buy the time to clear his head from being such a moron...

The premium is for a dispensary which I’ll gladly pay so I know there isn’t anything else in it. But I think it’s cheaper than when I was a kid. Dime bags (half gram) in HS were $10 but potentially more depending on where you were getting it from and you can get an 1/8 (3.5g) of great medical weed for $45 or 1/4 for $65.
They don't care about quality, they have to stay below THC levels, they have bad powdery mildew situations and they treat with pesticides. They also doctor by adding terpenes with swabs. You can never trust capitalism and a cannabis dispensary is no different. Mass produced crab grass. Especially the stuff in pre-rolls - the cannabis equivalent of a hot dog.
The absolute best place to source is still a trusted private, small batch grower. Or just do it yourself.
In Virginia marijuana possession is decriminalized and that quantity is still a five year max. Nobody gets five, but it’s the max. He probably doesn’t get significant jail time for this but a pro athlete trying to sneak a firearm and six ounces of marijuana through TSA is an IQ test.

Texas may treat it more harshly than many other states, but possessing 6 ounces faces jail time in, I think, every state.
+1.
Whew, in Texas, that likely negates the weed. America!

This is correct.
So stupidity on all sides
Plus, six ounces is a lot.
