NFT: Help selling two memorabilia items

DonQuixote : 8/4/2022 9:59 am
Hey BBI, Here is something I know nothing about and can really use your wisdom.

I have a single Sports Memorabilia item that the best I can tell, retails $20K and could be higher. Let's just take that for what it is (an autographed jersey with all certificates and provenance).

Since it is just one item and I am not a collector, it is immobilizing me as to the best way to get it appraised and sell it, are there agents, auctioneers...I would imagine there are more than enough rip-offs.

I also have a similarly valued Rock Music item with the same provenance, and have the same question.

Thanks for help in getting started.

I sell and buy sports cards if someone asks 20k for something doesn't mean its worth that much. If you watch auctions= what it sells for is what it is worth. That said not sure what your trying to sell but if you look at EBAY and find the same item you can watch what it sells for,how many people are interested. The same with Pristine auction. Watch the auction ones not the buy know. so 100 people bid on a auto jersey or card and it sells for $1000 that is a pretty good example of what its worth.
You should contact Goldin (link below)

For high end stuff like that (assuming it's worth at least $5K). They'll let you know if they think it's worthwhile and walk you through the process. I've sold high end stuff with them before and was very happy with the service.

I was hopping on this thread to ask does anyone buy signatures on

eBay, like signed balls and helmets and if so (and I realize there is no certainty) but how you even attempt to figure out that you are getting a legit item besides the guys seller ratings.

Forgery is rampant on e-bay. I went looking for Packer memorabilia for a gift for a family member, and it was ridiculous. Sellers will show a photo of the item with a certificate of authenticity number from well-known authenticators. You go tot he authenticator's site and plug the number in and it shows a totally different item. I ended up going to Steiner.
Thanks!

I appreciate the advice and link to Goldin. To be honest, I am not getting my hopes up too much but a couple of similar examples sold on ebay for about what I state. I also don't mind a pro taking some cut to get close to the market, which I do not know very well.

No prob! I've worked with Carlo (first name @ goldinauctions.com) before and he's been great if you wanted to reach out directly.

now has a process with auctions/items that reach high enough value that they will authenticate the item before finalizing the transaction.

eBay uses PSA and CSG who are industry accepted authenticators.

it won't prevent fraud, but probably will help
Just curious

What is special about the jersey that it would be worth $20K?

I have 1 piece of memorabilia that I obtained in person. A long story made short, I was at a reunion for Mickey Mantle's fantasy camp as an invited guest (I was too young to have attended). I have a t-shirt from the even mounted and framed with the autographs of Moose Skowron, Ron Guidry, Johnny Blanchard, Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, and Hank Bauer. Now, I wondering how much this is worth.

My guess was always about $400, so not really worth it for me to sell.
