Giants v Steelers (1967): This is the play I've been talking

M.S. : 8/4/2022 8:09 pm

about for years on end.

The Giants were down 24-20 with very little time left when they execute a "triple reverse" that frees up Joe Morrison for an easy game-winning TD.

The play starts at 5:27 with Tarkenton handing off to Ernie Koy who sweeps right**, and then hands the ball off to Homer Jones on a reverse, who then flips the ball back to Tarkenton.

The 6-minute game summary is fun to watch, but the last play of the game is the most fun by far!

P.S. The 1967 Giants offense was good enough to go to the playoffs, but their defense really sucked, and so the team treated its fans to a 7-7 record which for the 1960s wasn't too shabby!

**Check out the two Guards who do a reverse pivot from right to left!

Strange to see highlights that doing contain an dancing or showboating. It's kind of refreshing actually. I can appreciate the passion in the game today, but first downs are celebrate more than those touchdowns.
Didn't they used to play Marty Glickman's radio call of that play

How sad is it that the Giants teams of the Wilderness Years were

Easier to root for than the last 5 seasons? Better record too.
Sweet...

...!

Also I think watching this settles the argument about what the classic uniforms look like.
More creativity in the 5 minutes of offense from that clip

than we saw in the entire season last year. Loved the fake punt by Koy too!
On further review

it was the Left Tackle (Willie Young) and the Right Guard (Bookie Bolin) who reverse pivot. It looks like the Left Guard (Pete Case) blocks down. Incidentally, the Center was Greg Larson and the Right Tackle Francis Peay.
I remember that game

Well, maybe not the whole game, but I remember the situation and that play. Joe Morrison standing all alone in the defensive backfield - priceless.

The Giants were away and it was definitely televised!
Here's how the local papers reviewed the game

for this game and the Giants used a combo of position players to handle the kicking duties.

Check Mercein had misses a FG and PAT earlier in the game, which ultimately necessitated the razzle-dazzle paly call late in the game.
