Diaz is 28. You want me to sign him for life . He might live to 100 . This could be really expensive

Mets have signed undrafted Canadian right-hander Mathieu Voros.
Voros is a high schooler that pitched at the TNXL Academy in Florida.
Same academy that Mets 2021 2nd rounder Canadian Calvin Ziegler pitched at.

That was a very well done top 20. Not much to quibble with IMO. I would put Jett above Allan, but that's just a guessing game.
I like the Morabito comps to Merrifield. Would love a similar player

When we traded for him I remember a lot of comments that he basically had to be Mariano (which is obviously an insanely high bar) and this year he has been that good and probably even more dominating. I was pessimistic even through last year but very happy to have been wrong. He not only deserves CY votes but if he keeps it up he may deserve to win.

It’s obviously an inexact science but it’ll be fascinating to follow him. Law called him a “gut feel” prospect he really like, Longenhagen didn’t like the pick so that will be “fun” to follow
but part of that is recency theory. What made Mariano so legendary wasn't one season, it was his consistency to be that dominant for multiple seasons.
That said, I cringe at the fly-by-night posters who come by and post "now all those people who criticized Diaz or the trade look stupid"
no, I for one don't pretend 2019 didn't happen.
Diaz deserved every bit of criticism he got as did BVW.
Diaz in 2019 was one of the worst closers in the game.
And what was frustrating was it didn't appear to be his stuff, it appeared to be mental which didn't bode well for NY.
As a fan I could not be happier that he seems to have straightened out the issue and is now treating the fans and his teammates to a dominant season. I hope it continues and he shines on the big stage. Mets have seen great regular season performances from bullpen pieces wrecked with mediocre (or worse) post-seasons.
And I hope Diaz is now on track to maintain this level consistently.
But 2019 still happened, and I see no reason to erase it even as we move forward.

A lot to like there. From a baseball family. Good hit tool, plus power, plus speed. Not worried about the arm. Put him at 2B or CF.
Also agree re Mariano, there were always guys like Gagne who had flash seasons on his level but the consistency with him was the key especially post season. where we go this year is very much on Diaz shoulders.
Also re the trade, the prospect side of the deal certainly looks better now but we are also still counting cano at 20m this year and next against lux tax. That was an obvious risk at the time of the deal and his performance year 1 made it a practical guarantee that we’d end up here (ped burst notwithstanding).
In fairness, Smith has had trouble staying healthy his entire career. An underrated part of being a good RP is being able to put up a consistent 50-60 innings for a 4-5 year run. Easier said that done
Hopefully Parada plays for St Lucie this weekend or next week.
Anything on Fanas who has disappeared?

No update on Fanas (pretty sure he’s hurt), Schwartz is a NP for me. Absolutely zero power (113 games .354
Slugging for a 1B in a-ball at soon to be 23?)
So far only Vermillion and Gervase have been rostered and neither is expected to throw much this year
quick 'academy', measurements, instructs, placed, then develop
Smith had 3 days between those 30-pitch outings, then 4 more days after the last one. He then had 2 short perfect outings after that. THEN he started giving up HRs
This year it seems to me prices rose as the deadline approached. If the info is correct, the same Cubs team that jettisoned their former MVP turned down Mauricio for Contreras.
Also, getting Vogelbach for Holderman seems like a very good move when you look at what they paid for a 36 year old Darin Ruf. I've seen Ruf a lot and I like him. But Vogelbach is way better imo and 7 years younger and signed for less!
So I think signing Vogel early really paid off.

I think overall he has done a nice job with the pen. I am not saying this caused Drew Smith's injury but he did have him throw over 30 pitches in consecutive outings earlier in the season and he struggled right after that.

Smith will never be reliable until he stops regularly hanging sliders and that's going to be hard to do because the slider is his out pitch. He compounds the problem by losing his release point and walking guys
He and Nogosek have been given many opportunities to prove themselves and they just have not done it. Time to move on

Exactly. They are the last two of Alderson's 10 reliever acquisitions at the 2017 deadline. All 10 failed
Yeah, I agree. He had a 2.40 ERA last year and a 3.51 ERA this year. I don't get the hate on him. Is he an 8th inning guy? Doubtful. But he can still be a decent bullpen arm.
Yikes. 4 innings 0 hits 0 walks 8 k's, 2 groundouts

Campos leads the organization in BA, OPS, wRC+, slugging, ISO, wOBA, 2nd in OBP. I fully get he's 21 in the DSL but how about a reward promotion? #Mets
Cut to today....
No-hitter broken up... HR... by who else Dyron Campos making his stateside debut #Mets

Circling back to Diaz,
It would be unfair and unreasonable to expect what he's doing now is the standard. He will get paid because of this season because that's what happens when guys hit highs like this in walk years, but he's putting up historically high strikeout numbers that I can't expect would continue.
