Kayvon Thibodeaux - Early thoughts?

GNewGiants : 8/5/2022 9:26 pm
I don’t think I’ve been this so excited for a rookie since Eli. It seemed like he dominated the scrimmage today and has more than held his own in practices so far.

It really seems like this guy gets it and the initial worries about him may be overblown.
The "worries" were never about what he could do

On the field, which I definitely felt was overblown.

it's difficult to not get excited about his future as a Giant. Martindale seems to be the type of DC to get the most out of "KT5".

Our tackles are likely getting some good practice reps against a "Swiss Army Knife" pass rusher as well.

Yep he's apparently making his brand everyday. In a good way.

Yes and no. There were plenty of people criticizing his game too.
He was the best player in the Draft

And I did understand the off-the-field concerns and how he rubbed people the wrong way, but his talent was never in question and above all else, he's not a bad kid in the slightest. Far from it. He's a very intelligent and well-spoken guy.

He did disappear at times. That's true. He also played on a bum ankle and made some notable "business decisions" on the field. Can't fault the kid for that.
The thing it seems when he talks

Being good, isn’t good enough for him. His dialogue after practice seems like he is more interested in getting better - rather than speaking of what he did.

Just stay healthy #5.
At least 17 games of health and dominance

Will make a lot of giants fans go into an “LT” frenzy!!!!!!!
My only thought is
section125 : 8/5/2022 10:32 pm : link
that they are one week into training camp and he seems to look good.
Please stay healthy.

Remember that in order to have one great edge rusher, you have to have start with 2 very good edge rushers. Ojulari needs to show that last season was no fluke for him. And given that most of his sacks came early in the season so he has something to prove about sustained effort, although I’m sure some of his dropoff was due to him wearing down a bit and word getting around about his limited pass rush moves.
I think he gets it and will be great. My only concern is that Cosell

thought Thibs' draft status was a little high. He thought Jermaine Johnson was the best edge rusher in the draft.

Not sure what he’s gonna end up producing in terms of actual sacks, but his first step alone is gonna be a nightmare for OLs around the league. He seems really quick and violent with his hands too. If he can round out his game within a few years he could be one of the best edge guys in football.
He may be at

Round out what part of his game? He’s got the full compliment of pass rush moves, is a solid edge setter, and very comfortable in coverage.

He’s demonstrated a solid foundation at every level.

Sacks aren’t the way to measure the productivity of a player like Thibs. He’s not a go for broke edge rusher. He’s a versatile linebacker.

May put the opponents in long situations numerous times by penalty. Our sophomore pass rusher better be ready for some opportunity because before long kt5 will be drawing some doubles
His inside move is so quick
mittenedman : 8/6/2022 10:41 am : link
and his outside move is so quick, he's going to have OT's tied in knots. And he sets everything up beautifully. To be toasting Andrew Thomas like that is no joke - from the clips I've seen of Thomas he looks like an All Pro LT.

There was a story circulating how he blew the Giants away during his visit detailing how he studies his opponent during the game, and saves a finishing move for a crucial 4th quarter moment.

That's Strahan/LT stuff. Thinking about how you're going to ice the game. I have a feeling this guy is going to make us forget passing on Micah Parsons.

That's awesome! Gonna be fun to watch!

Hopefully we'll finally see the Giants D playing like a bunch of crazed dogs again!

His season and people started a narrative that was untrue and it gained steam. Our benefit though.

Sounds like he is constantly disruptive

Giants haven’t had a guy like that on the edge since JPP in 2011.

Hope he can stay healthy and be a game-wrecker for opposing offenses for years to come.

Very excited from what I'm reading

There might be some on here that think football is a 1 player sport, but I can remember feeling such disgust when Dallas was just able to run the ball down our throat and the past few years of a bad / and/or overrated defense.

This is a super stepping-stone for the future.
