So, Snitker
PakistanPete : 8/6/2022 2:02 pm : link
wanted Fried to pitch this game, but Fried wanted Scherzer.

I like it. Hopefully that works out in our favor.
So far so good
Optimus-NY : 8/6/2022 2:31 pm : link
Good to see Peterson doing well in Game 1 here.
Nice DP
speedywheels : 8/6/2022 2:36 pm : link
Now tack on a few more runs...
Fried - Scherzer
Gmanfandan : 8/6/2022 2:41 pm : link
If you recall is a rematch

Odorizzi is pitching fairly well but we are definitely missing opportunities.
This Lindor
PakistanPete : 8/6/2022 3:39 pm : link
guy is pretty OK. :)
lindor
sshin05 : 8/6/2022 3:46 pm : link
leads the team in fwar, yeah, he's pretty good
What a rebound thus far today.
Optimus-NY : 8/6/2022 3:48 pm : link
The first game is taking forever though.
vogelbach
sshin05 : 8/6/2022 3:50 pm : link
is OPSing over 1000 on the Mets. Yes this game taking forever
Lugo's inconsistency is maddening
Ten Ton Hammer : 8/6/2022 3:57 pm : link
.
Also maddening is not having a good Lefty in the bullpen
Snablats : 8/6/2022 4:02 pm : link
This at bat by Olson is where having a lefty reliever is important. And there's the base hit

It's ridiculous that they didn't acquire a quality Lefty

+1, I have very little confidence in Lugo.
Buck recommended they acquire Joely
Vanzetti : 8/6/2022 4:04 pm : link
Now he does not even use him against a lefty
Mets bullpen is really bad
Vanzetti : 8/6/2022 4:06 pm : link
They can do OK against crap teams but against the Braves no lead is safe

I was reading something about Joely in The Athletic yesterday that made it sound like he is better than his stats indicate. I'll try to find it and post it. I may also be wrong and not remembering correctly.
Oh My God!
Dennis : 8/6/2022 4:13 pm : link
McCann actually got a hit and drove in a run. Will wonders never cease!
Another stellar outing by Lugo
speedywheels : 8/6/2022 4:14 pm : link
Not getting a quality set up guy for the pen is going to haunt this team. Getting an additional, lefty arm would have been nice as well.
Smart play by Marte
speedywheels : 8/6/2022 4:18 pm : link
If he tags there, they give Pete IBB
Damn - pete juuuuuuust missed that one
speedywheels : 8/6/2022 4:20 pm : link
.
Are there any two players on the same team with as many RBI's as
Dennis : 8/6/2022 4:21 pm : link
Lindor and Alonso?
Lopez looks to be the man pitching the 9th.
Optimus-NY : 8/6/2022 4:49 pm : link
Let's end this marathon of a game already. Oy Vey!
And now Diaz is up
moze1021 : 8/6/2022 4:58 pm : link
Terrible

I like Medina more than Lopez...but seems like Mets don't feel same way??

Lopez cant even get 3 outs.
This BP is unbelievably bad.
CooperDash : 8/6/2022 4:59 pm : link
Hey Eppler…fuck you.
Max
spike : 8/6/2022 5:00 pm : link
must be mad right now. Our bullpen is a major weakness that was never addressed.
Lopez is not good enough
moespree : 8/6/2022 5:00 pm : link
Simple as that. Not good enough to be pitching on this type of team. I get putting him out there 8-2, but if he can't even get out of that...then what's the point?

Well he's not really on the standard roster...just for the double header

It was Alderson, he is still calling the shots and he hasn't put a good Bullpen together ever during his hundred years with the Mets
I don't wanna cuss out Lopez.
Optimus-NY : 8/6/2022 5:01 pm : link
He's not good enough. Now Diaz has to come in in a situation that he should have never been needed in. It's only two outs, but it likely means we won't see him for the night cap of this day-night Double Header. Phuq.
This is B.S. Now 8-4
Dennis : 8/6/2022 5:02 pm : link
Lopez has given up 4 straight hits and 2 runs. Now it's 8-4. They really needed to do something at the Aug 2nd deadline, and they didn't. This may really come back to bite them in the ass as the season progresses.
will need

And you know this, how? Did Sandy make to dumb fucking comments about there being a robust RP trade market after trading Holderman? No, that was Eppler.

If I had to guess, Sandy didn’t have anything to do with it. This trade deadline was a bust for Eppler, not Sandy.
It only took 7 pitches
spike : 8/6/2022 5:06 pm : link
maybe he can go again tonight?
Glad we got the win
CooperDash : 8/6/2022 5:07 pm : link
Pissed we had to waste Diaz in an 8-2 game.

Let’s see if it bites them in the ass for the next game. If I’m a betting man, runs will be hard to come by in the second game.

You have a rested May to go tonight - so Max only has to go 8 :D
Alderson does not have some overwhelming power here
moespree : 8/6/2022 5:11 pm : link
Though he did comment that trading PCA made them more reluctant to trade prospects this year. Gave the game away that they may not be as active as some expected.

It's clear his power is less compared to previous seasons. Though, these comments were confusing. He's supposed to transition to the business side. Not sure why he is telegraphing the team's trade plans 3 weeks before the deadline.
Max and Jake
moze1021 : 8/6/2022 5:15 pm : link

The trade deadline was Sandy's MO all the way - no action until the last minute, overpaying and crappy trades, and leaving the bullpen with holes in it

Tim Britton in the Athletic said Executives thought the Mets were spooked by Alderson's awful Baez trade last year. Alderson went on Heyman and Sherman's podcast himself and said they weren't going to trade any of the big prospects because of last year's Baez trade

Eppler wasn't here last year, so if the Mets were spooked, it has to be Alderson

It was reported last winter that no quality GM candidate wanted to even interview for the Mets job because of Alderson being there. Now we know why
This win applies tremendous pressure on the Braves
moespree : 8/6/2022 5:18 pm : link
They have to at least split the Scherzer/deGrom games. Otherwise the weekend is a total disaster for them. They will leave dropping 3 games if they don't at least split.
Let’s all meet here again
Vanzetti : 8/6/2022 5:19 pm : link

This is my undrstanding as well, per The Athletic, that Eppler was more reluctant to take chances in trades due to the PCA transaction.

Go for the jugular and win both games. Braves would be 6.5 games out by Monday

+1, my thinking as well. I thought that Snitker was running scred yesterday, when he took out Anderson in the 5th inning, with The Braves 6 runs ahead, when The Mets has 2 runners on base.
(I hope I got all the facts right, they are from my memory of yesterday's game and they may not be exact.)
This bullpen has allowed an alarming number of runs since

That game got pretty close as well, as the Mets were a couple of small ball plays away from tying it up.

Yes, you're right.
I was pleasantly surprised by Peterson's performance today. Now, if

+1. I was thinking that too, I was very pleasantly surprised by Peterson today.
I can't help but fantasize about with Magill's return, and Peterson's rebirth, that the Mets may have two solid back end starting pitchers to go with DeGrom, Scherzer, Bassit, Walker, and Carasco. I don't think any other team in baseball has that kind of quality, quantity, and depth.
