I know most didn't have big expectations but hearing that he was moving fairly well for a guy his size had me interested in his development. The NFL is littered with late round offensive linemen that carve out PT somehow.
It does seem like we have an inordinate number of these injuries, whether from the turf or something else. The preseason hasn't even started and we are already hurting on the OL.
I have the exact same question! Why not protect the knees of our OL/DL and for that matter all our players. Especially, ware them during the preseason games.
I Wish McKethan a speedy recovery..
'The 6-7, 335-pound rookie was injured during Friday night's Fan Fest scrimmage. He crumbled to the ground while trying to anchor and rolled around in pain.'
Sounds non-contact so far as the knee was concerned.

If he is anchoring against a bull rush, it's a contact injury.
If they did everyone in the sport would wear them.
Also, if I’m not mistaken, I don’t think there’s any medical science or studies that have demonstrated conclusive evidence that braces or wraps even help in rehab of injuries (beyond immobilizing and stability for recovery). Odd I suppose, but pretty sure it’s true.
As for the field, I think there’s been studies showing that todays turf isn’t any more likely to result in injury. Hey, I’m skeptical here too, but data is data.
Pro football is a tough way to earn a living. Hope all the guys get well soon. You know, so they can come back and get injured again.
Looks like there’s plenty of data to indict it is worse for injury. Why in the heck NFL teams use turf if this is the case? Seems foolish. NFLPA on turf - ( New Window )

Don't want field maintenance costs cutting into those profits. Unfortunately that's a bean counter's mentality because the injuries to players hurt the success of the franchise.

True, grass fields are the way to go unfortunately they don't do well in cold weather cities post November.
this team is jinxed at WR, TE, and OL with injuries.
There has been a ton of disastrous personnel moves the last decade over multiple regimes. But the salt on that wound has indeed been this never-ending rash of injuries.
It's as if Mara actually made a deal with a devil to win those two SB over the Pats; and this last decade has been the price we have had to pay for that deal...

We'll see what happens, but figure Ezeudu winds up being the first guy off the bench as both the Swing Tackle & Swing Guard since he is getting a lot of love. Garcia also sticks as another backup at Guard.
I think all these other Tackles except for Thomas & Neal get cut. Maybe Holden goes to PS, and they wind up adding another Tackle from another team's releases.
At Center, Feliciano obviously sticks. And they give Bredeson every chance to hold onto his job. But in end he doesn't, and they cut all the other backup Centers and go with a Player To Be Named Later from another team's releases.
We might find out what Bobby Johnson thinks of Cody Ford.
Ford has been a huge disappointment in Buffalo, but there may still be some upside. Beane traded up in the second round to get him, and Ford’s G/T versatility was an asset his rookie year. Then he tore a meniscus near the end of a rough 2020, was in and out of the lineup last year, playing poorly, and got benched for good in December.
As the Bills’ depth chart stands, Ford isn’t likely to make the team. His salary is under $1.5MM, so claiming him off the waiver wire wouldn’t cost much more than signing him as a fourth-year street free agent. A trade is also possible.
As frustrating as Ford was for the Bills’ staff, I doubt any coach in the League knows him better than Johnson, whose tenure in Buffalo coincided exactly with Ford’s. If there’s anything left worth developing, Johnson has as much insight as anyone.

Hopefully gates too
Bring in some reinforcements
Good lock to him on his surgery.
Lots of tears though

Wish him luck with his recovery. He’s going to need it.

Other teams use same turf as do the Jets.
2 OL retirees.
Now a likely retiree, and a season ending practice injury : both to OL.
I’ve been saying it for decades: the injuries are because we share the stadium ( IK practices aren’t there) with the Jets: the bad seeds.
I wish McKethan a full and speedy recovery.
I hope Gates councils him on how to fight through it all.

“For a young player to have a non-contact injury, it was tough,” said Head Coach Brian Daboll on Sunday.

Makes it a lot more likely the turf contributed IMO
