Anyone else think Taylor and Webb are going to be running for their lives Thursday? The OL depth is going to be a problem all preseason IMO.

Just preseason?
Nobody has a good 2nd string OL and you certainly cant expect quality there.

C Feliciano
RG Glowinski
RT Neal (growing pains, but should be adequate in pass pro and well above average in run game in year 1)

While Cunningham, Gono and McKeathan are injured, I am not sure they are of a greater caliber than whatever their replacements will end up being. This is generally the state of affairs in the NFL for 8th-10th linemen on a roster.
What I am getting from this, is since they will be playing behind the 2nd stringers and our depth is suspect he is worried about them getting pummeled on Thursday night.
Hopefully Daniel starts to at least begin showing some God damn development finally

What teams in the NFL have great OL depth???? Most teams cant fill out 5 solid starters and we are talking about quality depth??? You want a solid line, here is rule #1 through 10 - keep your starters healthy. Cause when even one guy goes down, that can bring the whole thing down.
My snarky remark was in the context of the O-Line… and that “depth” would not necessarily be just a pre-season issue.
Definitely don’t think the starting O-Line is bad. I’ve said before that I feel a lot better about our O-Line than what we’ve trotted out there for the past decade. But I think Schoen/Daboll need to do more work on depth in the 2023 off-season.

I expect them to do that. However, I think they're anticipating Gates making it back (if not this year, then certainly next year), as well as McKethan, and those two ought to help.
Still, I'm of the mind that you should draft OL's every year, not necessarily with premium picks, but with mid-to-late rounders worth developing. Keep that pipeline flowing. I'd love to see them develop the big Nigerian kid, too.

The Giants needed a change organizationally and that needs to be with Jones as well. Let Taylor start (or get a guy from elsewhere) and develop the offensive scheme with an eye towards the future (and future QB).

lol more than half the fanbase barely thinks Jimmy G is better than Jones. There's definitely not going to be much clamoring for him.
I agree, and that approach can win a lot of games, maybe even the division. The key will be good coaching.

Guess you were there to tell us about holding the ball too long? Were the receivers open?
It's gotten that bad. Daniel holds the ball wayyyyy too long. His deep ball is nicer than Tyrod but Tyrod is wayyyy better in the quick passing game and has more zip on the quick passes. His release is better/throwing motion is faster. He sees the defense faster. Tyrod can make plays with his legs just as much as Daniel can. This is looking bad for Daniel. I know I've been ringing the alarm every practice now but the fact is this has been a BAD camp thus far for Daniel Jones and that's a fact, I've watched like 5 practices live now and I don't want to hear the opinions of you Daniel defenders who just read tweets and haven't been to watch a single camp practice as of yet. I've defended Jones alot to this point but I can't pretend I'm blind to what I've been seeing. It's getting worse not better. He was at his best in preseason of his rookie year his development just hasn't been there, period.
I wish we could see more of Tyrod with the 1s to give us a better tell if Tyrod would make this team/offense better. Daniel has done nothing to solidify the starting QB job IMO.

Overall, rough day for the Giants first-team offense. Daniel Jones threw a pair of interceptions and went 5-of-15 passing. Kadarius Toney had a pair of drops (and a third in individual drills). Not crisp at all.
IMO trying to make any decisions, and getting all worked up, from August practices is a huge waste of time. We just don't know enough about what is happening out there.
I have. Or at least, I've wondered why it should be controversial to think that Taylor might simply be a better QB than Jones. Taylor's actually had some pretty legitimate success in the NFL. He's simply been injured quite a few times and then replaced by a QB who wound up being pretty damn decent.

This is 100% true, I agree.
But I won't act surprised when Daniel struggles, I would be happily surprised to see all the lights turn on and things finally start to click but to your point you never know until they line up and play a real game for 60 minutes.
Time to scout this year’s college QB class for sure
Why, thats what they brought in Tyrod for. It seems pretty well thought out if you ask me. Jones can't cut it, play an acceptable journeyman QB this season instead (not a bum like Glennon), get a high draft pick next year and try to find a QB again
Roll with Taylor and Webb.

It wouldn't be my choice. We know what Taylor is. I'd rather add one of the QBs that came out and throw him into the fire. Wiklis, Ridder, Corral, Howell or Strong. At least they still have upside. And if they fail you get a top 3 pick.
Roll with Taylor and Webb.
Jones’s roster bonus was paid on Friday. There would be less than 1M in cap savings if he’s traded now.
Roll with Taylor and Webb.
Does that mean the buying team pays $4M approx. If do then I think not.

I will say that your point about practice needs to be taken a bit deeper tough. Every bad throw, every int etc is a play taken away from the receiver, the confidence of the offense and even the confidence of the QB. If you cannot have success in practice you sure won't be seeing success in the games.
Don't forget, while this is a new system for the offense, it is a new system for the defense too.
Don't forget, while this is a new system for the offense, it is a new system for the defense too.
It is, but nobody really gives a crap when the defense gets blown up in camp or if a player screws up. Especially when the defense just attacks - it looks great and is really hard for the offense to be consistent.
On top of that, the defense has better players all around.
Would Jones be better if the NFL had a "5 Mississippi Rule" so he could have more time to read, process and decide?
But when we hear comments like "brutal"...
But when we hear comments like "brutal"...
Think the neck injury was way worse. Heard early in camp his throwing motion changed but havent heard much more. He was never "brutal" in his other pre season snaps. Something way off here.
But when we hear comments like "brutal"...
I hope Daboll make Jones play every preseason game because he simply needs to. Seeing Jones under live fire really needs to be the next step in the assessment here.
I said it last week - we could seriously have a QB controversy on our hands here. We are reading from mulitiple sources that Taylor looks like a more competent QB right now to run the offense...
Just gonna let the Jones stuff play out in the games.
Here are the three matchups between the Bills and Ravens and Wink vs. DaBoll
1/18 Allen 6/15 74 yds. Buffalo Total Yards: 153
1/19 Allen 17/39 146 yds. TY: 209
1/21: Allen 23/37 206 yds. TY: 220
Based on all the positive defensive stuff just maybe they are pretty damn good and Wink is a PIA to play against.

Just when you think you are over this……
Right now he is running new plays and working with new receivers and the offense is learning what works and what doesn't.
Let's see how he does against real competition. If what we are seeing in practice carries over to preseason games then I will be concerned. As will the Giants I'm sure.

know about Jones. Practice is practice, let the games play out and then see. I'm extremely confident that after the preseason Daboll will know what Jones can/cannot do, and he will make the appropriate decision to save his own skin. His job is aligned with winning football games, and I doubt he will be tied to anyone. Also frankly I am just interested in watching the games play out, and don't care who the right answer is.

This Daboll's free year. His fortunes are not tied to DJ. DJ will get a good long look, once and for all, so that a decision can be made. Taylor is there to be a competent backup if needed. He's not going to start unless Jones gets hurt.
So many people rooting against DJ to be successful. Tyrod Taylor has had many opportunities as well with different teams and its proven he is not the answer either. So why would you want him starting???
Im pretty confident that the coaching staff will do whats best for the team. If they think Taylor gives them the best chance to win he will play. At thins point its clear DJ is the starter and Taylor is the backup. Nitpicking every throw and micro managing is not a good process. If DJ is not the answer we will know it pretty quickly as the season plays out. If thats the case its going to really suck for this team until we find the next QB.
It's too early to conclude that we have a "QB controversy" when we haven't even played any preseason games. But I doubt Daboll will hesitate to pull Jones if he struggles during the regular season. Nor should he.

I don't think it's any more complicated than that we have seen Jones play almost 40 career games. The thing you know vs the thing you don't.
You are jumping pretty close to the others jumping to conclusions...

Ugh, no.. My point is, you can't use that it is new as an excuse for Jones when the entire team system is new. That excuse only goes so far and must also extend to the defense as well.
The list of excuses is very lengthy. And tiresome.
The QB can't hit in practice for crissakes. Practice is designed for the QB to succeed.
Now, if the reports were unanimous that the receivers were the overwhelming cause of Jones struggles than you have a place to go. Instead, we have accuracy/decision/technical issues from Jones that don't seem to go away.
Right now I have zero interest in watching another year of Jones playing QB. Zero.
I would hope they are using the few team practices they get to give Jones throws they expect him to perform in games.
But I guess they could just be using practice to kill time in the day...

coaches may have told Jones to let it fly. Preseason practice is not the same as game time. Jones may be throwing passes in practice that he would never throw in a game. I'll wait til I see an opponent on the field.

This.
Can't wait until these preseason games start and we can see how offense looks prepared. Practicing PA plays seems odd in and of itself but I suppose he has his reasons. It never shines lightly on the stat sheet though. Sure didn't for Taylor and the second team either.

Or they could have decided that throwing the ball away or adlib QB scrambling against a D that's not supposed to tackle is a waste of limited practice plays.
I guess I'm crazy expecting the 6th pick in the draft - who was lauded, btw, for his so-called football intellect when we drafted him - to adjust quickly and make plays in practice.
Jones is the kid in the neighborhood who needs the training wheels on his bike for over a year because he just can't figure out how to ride the two-wheeler...

Ugh, no.. My point is, you can't use that it is new as an excuse for Jones when the entire team system is new. That excuse only goes so far and must also extend to the defense as well.
No it doesn't. Two completely different situations. It is much easier for the defense, it is such a different system. Even if they make a mistake, you would not know it, I doubt the press knows it, only the coaching staff can see it. If the offense screws up, everyone can see it, especially the QB. I'm not arguing that Jones isn't screwing the pooch, certainly plain to all watching, since they are saying the same thing. And it is his M.O. all over again.
Has anyone, once, reported that the defense messed up a coverage or an assignment? (Maybe Sy can see defensive lapses)

coaches may have told Jones to let it fly. Preseason practice is not the same as game time. Jones may be throwing passes in practice that he would never throw in a game. I'll wait til I see an opponent on the field.

Agreed, so let's focus on completing passes and executing successful offensive plays...

It seems the Giants are practicing solely play-action in team drills today.
Hard to beat a defense with play action if they know it's coming. Kind of defeats the whole purpose. No wonder there are a ton of "sacks" today.
This is a ridiculous take, when i won the rock paper scissors tournament of 44AD, all i had to do was keep throwing rocks at the competition. Worked out just fine.

Dude, you are killing me. My point for the second time is if the defense if new and possibly making mistakes that would in essence give teh offense SOME positive plays. BUT, we are seeing a defense dominate the offense and the QB missing throws and getting picked. If both sides are new, both will have growing pains. Why is it the Offense can't seem to take advantage of the growing pains of the defense.
Its one thing to be objective and another to just blindly defend what is clearly bad play by Jones. His play, which has mirrored his play for years isn't just practice or new scheme, it is who he is.

The D knew that today was play action day, everything was done out of play action from the reports. It makes sense that the D was going to be better than the O today. DBs can sit on the pass imo.
I'll bet if you ask around the league, Winks style of D is very hard to attack from an offensive standpoint.

Is “running new plays” going to be the overarching excuse?
The list of excuses is very lengthy. And tiresome.
The QB can't hit in practice for crissakes. Practice is designed for the QB to succeed.
Now, if the reports were unanimous that the receivers were the overwhelming cause of Jones struggles than you have a place to go. Instead, we have accuracy/decision/technical issues from Jones that don't seem to go away.
Right now I have zero interest in watching another year of Jones playing QB. Zero.
Hang in there. You’re gonna be ok.
