Giants release first depth chart

Eric from BBI : Admin : 8/8/2022 5:20 pm
FYI...

Giants release first unofficial depth chart of 2022 - ( New Window )
I know it’s minor
Keaton028 : 8/8/2022 5:23 pm : link
But our KR and PR players are always so meh. Inspires no fear at all in opponents.

I think Dwayne Harris was excellent when we had him, and everyone else since has been serviceable at best.

Kickoff returners are less important than ever, but on punts the Giants could spot use Toney there.

You’re right Harris was a beast. Everyone else since has been mediocre.
So, is the Giants base defense
M.S. : 8/8/2022 5:38 pm : link

a 3-3-5?
Or,
M.S. : 8/8/2022 5:39 pm : link

a 4-2-5?
Slayton
Toth029 : 8/8/2022 5:40 pm : link
Is being given a huge opportunity Thursday; behind both Golladay and Toney.

To me it's 2-4-5. If Belton is back, he could be the fifth DB.
If it is unofficial ...
MattinKY : 8/8/2022 5:43 pm : link
Why release it publicly? On the official website??

Is it just me or is everything over emphasized in our modern world?

It's mandated by the league to have an unofficial depth chart during the preseason
A couple minor but interesting ones
mfsd : 8/8/2022 5:49 pm : link
Brightwell ahead of Antonio Williams for 3rd string RB

Darius Slayton as 2nd string WR behind both Golladay and Toney, but ahead of all the rest

Would seem to run counter to multiple reports of Slayton seemingly buried with the 3rd string
RSJ/Akins
Breeze_94 : 8/8/2022 6:02 pm : link
Appear to be duds. Giants should be busy on the waiver wire looking for quality depth at TE, as well as Swing Tackles, a backup C, and boundary CB depth.

The starting 22 and young nucleus of talent is as good as it’s been in 5+ years. The depth is as bad as I’ve seen (due to the cap situation inherited of course)
Rodarius Williams
ChicagoMarty : 8/8/2022 6:03 pm : link
is the first backup at both boundary cornerback spots.

I have not read a single word on his play

I am guessing that no news is good news
I updated

TE depth is interesting
ThorSavage87 : 8/8/2022 6:29 pm : link
Watching clips and training camp reports and it looks like Myarick has been playing with the 1's more than Akins.

This is not an official depth chart. Daboll and the coaching staff have no input on this. This is released by the front office as mandated by the NFL.
From an OL persepctive, I read this to suggest we have 5 starters
chick310 : 8/8/2022 6:44 pm : link
and one decent backup in Ezeudu.

And everybody else still needs to earn their reserve role or likely be replaced with somebody else's castoffs.
....
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 8/8/2022 6:47 pm : link
I'd be stunned if Slayton is on this roster come kickoff in Nashville.

I’m glad Daboll and staff aren’t coaching like they’re beholden to it
Hmmm, what does the transaction wire say?

Giants release first depth chart...

Or released/Injured.

Because this roster certainly is broken!

He has not been allowed to practice yet.

Also second-string PR and KR. He may stick because he's the backup at so many positions. Versatility is valuable.
they need to bring in some competition

This is what stood out to me most as well. This is great news, haven’t heard anything about Rodarious, he was playing really well last year before the injury, I hope he picks it right back up. He can be a very vital piece to this defense this year.

He's having a very good camp.
I almost had a panic attack

Looking at that offense.
The competition for Gillan’s job might be up the NYS Thruway.
Big Blue Blogger : 8/9/2022 6:03 am : link
Whichever Matt the Bills cut will be an obvious option. Araiza has a big leg, though it was hugely overhyped during the draft process. He’s learning to hold. Haack is a decent pro who put himself on the bubble with a rough first year in Buffalo. Either would probably have a smaller cap hit than Gillan, since Araiza is a rookie and Haack would qualify for the Minimum Salary Benefit.

Keep an eye in sane area for Cody Ford. I suspect he is cut or traded by Bills, could be an obvious addition here for his knowledge of scheme and staff.

Ford has been a huge disappointment in Buffalo, but there may still be some upside. Beane traded up in the second round to get him, and Ford’s G/T versatility was an asset his rookie year. Then he tore a meniscus near the end of a rough 2020, was in and out of the lineup last year, playing poorly, and got benched for good in December.

As the Bills’ depth chart stands, Ford isn’t likely to make the team. His salary is under $1.5MM, so claiming him off the waiver wire wouldn’t cost much more than signing him as a fourth-year street free agent. A trade is also possible.

As frustrating as Ford was for the Bills’ staff, I doubt any coach in the League knows him better than Johnson, whose tenure in Buffalo coincided exactly with Ford’s. If there’s anything left worth developing, Johnson has as much insight as anyone.

Nice one, and I missed that. Yeah, he seems to be on the bubble there and though not great, he certainly would provide depth and knows the system.
Despite

going into his fourth year, Slayton is behind Golladay who can't separate and has been a bust FA so far, the rookie Robinson, and second year player Toney who did next to nothing last season. He also doesn't play ST and the Giants would save $2.5M by cutting him.

But he might stick just because other than journeyman Foster, no one can match his deep speed. I'm also not sure anyone would trade for him at this point, just like with Bradberry.

How about Slayton for Ford?? Seems like a good deal for both teams.
Rasbutant: Depends how much the Bills like Slayton.
Big Blue Blogger : 8/9/2022 11:09 am : link
In addition to the dead-money hit on Ford, they would pay an extra million in salary if they traded Ford for Slayton and his current paycheck. On the other hand, if they like the player and don't think he would clear waivers, a trade might be their best option.
I'd
AcidTest : 8/9/2022 11:18 am : link
be very surprised if Slayton cleared waivers if cut. He's had enough success that somebody will claim him, especially since his salary is just $2.5M.
Ximenes over Roche is kind of surprising
sb from NYT Forum : 8/9/2022 11:56 am : link
...but based on tweets during practice I guess he has been doing well. Although I don't think Roche has been given much of an opportunity so far, based on Sy's camp reports.

Ximenes being competent would be a nice bonus, but I'll believe it when I see it in preseason games.
There is no depth anywhere and some positions look shaky
