There was a thread, but I think it's gone? Anyway, bad news is Carpenter broke a bone in his foot after fouling a ball off his foot in the first. That's a tough loss.
Yanks up 7-2 in the sixth, Donaldson is 3-4 so far with 3 RBI and a triple short of the cycle. One boneheaded base running gaffe too.
Carpenter is a big loss. Hopefully a small fracture.
Benintendi getting a little bit more comfortable.
And great to see Taillon going 7. I only watched a few innings but his fastball had some life yesterday that seemed like it had been missing for a while. I didn't see anything eye-popping on the gun but it just looked like it was playing up a little bit, and he sawed a few guys off inside.
Sucks about Carpenter. Hopefully back in time for a few regular season at bats and then playoffs?
My guess is they go with Andujar here, but neither he nor Florial would surprise me.
Agree that seeing Benintendi and Donaldson starting to hit is a great sign, need them to keep it up
I didn’t watch last night, but looked like another clean inning for Chapman? Not sure if I trust him fully yet, but if he’s regaining his form that’s huge

He looked ok. Was sitting around 98-99, hit 100 a few times. He's never going to be as dominant as he was now that everyone throws mid-high 90s, but hopefully he can be a good serviceable reliever.
Taillon was much, much better last night. He got burned by the long ball a little, but you take that outing from him every single time. Taillon has the 4th lowest BA against him with RISP in the majors this year - he's faced 114 batters with RISP and has allowed just a .172 BA against in those situations. 4th best in MLB.
DJ LeMahieu is not getting nearly enough credit for how good he has been. 142 wRC+ and on pace for roughly a 6 fWAR season.
Chapman is getting his confidence back. It's getting "safer" to use him in medium leverage spots, IMO. Need this to continue for him.
Terrible break for Carp (literally)... but I think we will see him again in October. The timeline is going to be tight, but he should make his way back and for now, I will choose to believe he'll be back because it sucks too much to imagine otherwise.
Aaron Judge is the best player in baseball. He's amassed a 7.1 fWAR - no other hitter is even @ 6 yet.
Loaisiga's remaining option should be used when Marinaccio is eligible to be called back up. He's still scuffling and can't be trusted outside of low leverage spots.
Holmes's missing control is a bit concerning. It looks like he really doesn't know where the ball is going right now. He's just not dotting the zone like he was before. I'm confident he can get it back, but definitely something to keep an eye on.
Donaldson was fantastic last night. He's waking up and we really, really need it.
Rizzo should be back in the lineup tonight. It's been a little too quiet around Stanton... we really need both back.
Cole/Castillo rematch tonight. Gerrit really, really needs a clean outing.
I expect Cole to come out hot tonight and start the boys on a nice little bounce-bak run to shut up the talking heads.
What's the fallback? Effross?

If this continues to the point where we need to explore other options, I imagine Boone will give Chapman the first crack to take his job back.. but I'd give Marinaccio a shot (assuming he's back up shortly and this issue persists)
Abreu should be sent down. I know he's out of options, but Marinaccio should be on the big league roster and should stay there.
I'm not convinced Abreu would be claimed if DFA'd anyhow.
I think this whole situation is going to look very fluid game to game based on matchups, leverage situations, parts of the order we are facing in a given inning, and etc.
Wouldn't shock me to see each of Holmes, Chap, Trivino, Effross to put a mark or two in the S column between now and the end of the regular season.
12 games, 11 IP, 8.18 ERA, 11 H, 9 BB

It is the BB that is the problem. Some of those hits were dribblers and broken bat bloops.

Yankees' 2022 1st-rounder Spencer Jones is heading to Low-A Tampa, per the MiLB Transactions Log after going 5-for-10 with a homer in the FCL. That means we'll get to see his Statcast numbers.

Why exactly does a top of the game college senior start out in FCL? Seems a Div 1 top 10 baseball team is at least as good as High A.
I suppose there has to be roster openings in order to be able to move there, but....
You'd have to read Dunedin81's write up. I think he was a pitcher a couple years ago that converted to OF.
Perhaps it was an evaluation period so they can write up a detailed training regimine?
If Spencer Jones becomes a star, the draft is a success. His story is relatively familiar by now. Between injuries and a stacked Vandy lineup he had limited reps until he broke out on the Cape last year, slashing .312/.424/.481 with am 8:28 BB:K over 92 Pas, with 3 HRs. This year he went off in the SEC, with a .370/.460/,644 slash line and a 32:64 BB:K over 272 Pas, with 12 HRs and 14/15 SBs. The similarities to Judge aren’t just physical; he posted some of the best exit velocities in college baseball in games and during the Combine (exit velos that would best everyone not named Judge or Stanton). He probably needs a little more loft in his swing, but the present path is probably more conducive to hitting for average. He’s probably 70 raw on the power tool, and he has the speed and even acceleration to be a factor on the bases and to play CF (Enrique Bradfield Jr. played it for Vandy and he was a top 10 defensive CF in the country). He has a huge arm, even after TJS. Judge probably has comparable max speed but the more slender Jones has better acceleration. The problem, as with Judge, is going to come down to Jones’s ability to control the strike zone. On draft day Judge had better pitch recognition and more patience, though he also had a lot more college reps than Jones did. Jones destroys in-zone fastballs but is more average against breaking stuff, and has all the attendant issues that come with his size. Judge was drafted in the year of three first rounders (2013) and was the only one to get above slot. Don’t be surprised if Jones has a similarly high ask.

Maybe playing with aluminum bats in college has something to do with it, needs to get his feet wet someplace.
They have to get use to wooden bats at some level.
