Patriots Offense Struggling.. sound familiar?

KingBlue : 8/9/2022 3:46 pm
Looks like Giants might not be the only team with new offensive leadership that is struggling mightily...

Maybe we should give our guys a break after only one week in a new system... The Patriots are not in a new system but seem to be struggling under new leadership.

Pats Offense Distressingly Bad - ( New Window )

I agree... but plenty of bellyaching going on around here.
If the offense was

lighting it up then people would be bitching about how bad the defense is.
I thought this was

Going to be a take shots at the Pats o-coordinator thread.

As someone who liked Judge here..

I wonder if he made a mistake running back to NE. If he is involved in a messy offensive, I don’t see him getting another NFL HC gig. He’s in a tough spot now with Patricia.
...
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 8/9/2022 3:52 pm : link
Isn't Patricia the defacto Pats OC? I don't think it is Judge. And as far as I know, Patricia has no experience on the offensive side of the ball.
Can we agree...
bw in dc : 8/9/2022 4:00 pm : link
that Belichick has enough equity in his coaching career to get the benefit of the doubt on this situation?

Do you really want to bet against him that he gets this right?

According to their website Patricia is listed as Senior Football Advisor / Offensive Line and Judge is Offensive Assistant / Quarterbacks. Nobody is listed as an offensive coordinator.
That is not the point... is it?
KingBlue : 8/9/2022 4:06 pm : link
Their offense is struggling early in camp, as is our offense. So let's not all freak out. Dabs and Kaafka come from pretty good offensive systems... maybe give them some time and our offense will improve.
Replacing McDaniels with Patricia/Judge

Our offense struggled all preseason long last year...it does matter.

So another team's offense is also struggling in practice so that means what?

That we should not worry about the Giants offense struggling in practice?

Do you think they will be perfectly fine in the regular season because the Patriots offense is also struggling in camp or something?

Someone help me make it make sense please

OK... I'll try. Many offenses struggle the first week of camp, only to improve with more reps. So stop with all the whining, moaning and groaning. Let it play out.

Someone help me make it make sense please

At what point does performing well in practice matter then?

Yeah it's early but do you really expect us to light it up in week 1 if we can't even light it up in practice?

That's all I'm saying... at some point our QB has to show improvement on ball placement, reading defenses, being decisive and putting some zip on the ball when throwing into tight windows.

Or no? The switch will just magically turn on when the season starts?
Boston papers been writing about this for a while

now. Everything from Mac Jones struggling to team picking up changes to the offense that BB is installing. Little talk of it amongst Pats fans cause they don't have a BBI and of course they ve been a winning franchise.
Obviously Daniel Jones fault
Spiciest Memelord : 8/9/2022 4:46 pm : link
Would not surprise me if its a ploy by Little Bill.
Of course they ll play the Giants Thursday

Pats average 27 points per game

Giants average 15 points per game

One team has a lot more to prove
I was
Fat Wally : 8/9/2022 4:50 pm : link
listening to the Around The NFL podcast and they said the Patriots are deploying a completely new offense this year. They were previously running the same offense that Charlie Weis installed 20 years ago, which was the same similar offense that Ron Erhardt used with the Giants.

What I heard, is they are switching to a more Zone blocking scheme to take advantage of what their new rookie offensive lineman do well as well as adapt to more of what the league is doing. Early reports are that Mac Jones has struggled with it.

WOW I really thought Judge had some new ideas and was going to light the NFL up this year with QB sneaks.

Yes. That offense has been around over four decades (many enhancements). It actually originally started in NE. Perkins, Parcells, Erhardt and Ernie Adams (he was the one who introduced BB to Perkins) all were on the Patriots staff. Certainly a good haul for the Giants.

BB talked about scheme changes after the Buffalo loss. Be interesting to see what direction they go. Lot of turnover for the staff with some big losses the last few years. Scarnechia a 35 year NE treasure.

Let it play... you mean like what I've been doing the last 10 years basically. Fuck that and you, I'm tired of losing and being out of the hunt before the end of October maybe your happy to keep providing excuses for Jones and this team, I'm not.

Outside zone running game is probably the best scheme in the NFL. Puts a lot of horizontal conflict on the D combined with bootleg play action which gives even bums like Jimmy G easy reads. One weakness also apparent with choker Jimmy G is he loses this advantage in the 2 minute offense.

After his NY flameout, I'd be surprised if he ever gets another interview for a HC position in the NFL. His best bet is college IMO. In hindsight, I bet he wishes he took that Mississippi State offer.
Yes, but how do the Patriots QB sneaks look
PatersonPlank : 8/9/2022 6:32 pm : link
I expect that will be a big part of their offense this year
.
ChrisRick : 8/9/2022 6:39 pm : link
I seriously doubt BB56 was saying that practice does not matter or the performance does not matter. I think what he saying is that it is difficult to know from the outside what matters and what does not.
Give it a little time
norripe : 8/9/2022 7:20 pm : link
The defense is always ahead of the offense early in camp, particularly when it is a new offense and a hyper aggressive attacking defense. When I was in college we had a hyper aggressive defensive coach that always attacked sending 5,6,7, or more attackers at the offense. Our head coach acted as the offensive coordinator and would say early in camp give my guys a break and at least let us run a play or two. The defensive coach would just say learn to block and make plays. It was always easier in games then in practice, particularly during summer practice.

Hey Asshole, I never mentioned Jones or the previous ten years which have nothing to do with this thread or its premise, which apparently you are too ignorant to comprehend.

The premise, moron, is that many offenses, including teams like the Pats with new systems in place struggle early in camp... so give it some time. You fucking dumbass.
I'm sure they'll figure out how
Since1965 : 8/9/2022 8:40 pm : link
to take a knee on second and third down. It will just take a little more coaching up by Judge.
The Pats struggle in camp
Blue92 : 8/9/2022 9:23 pm : link
Then they win 10-14 games.

The Giants struggle in camp...
