preview. Spot on. I just want to see improvement this year and some indication the team has a viable plan to be compete for the division in 2023.
The team has unfortunately already been bitten by the injury bug again. WR and TE are major question marks. I also agree that Jones should just "play ball" and not be hesitant.
The most likely scenario is that Jones, Barkley, Shepard, and Golladay are not on the team next year. Schoen could only purge so many contracts this year but will be able to do a lot more next year when our salary cap situation improves.
I think you meant ACL not ACJ when referring to McKethan's injury.
about the reports that New England seems to be having big struggles with their offense, especially their OL and becoming more of a stretch/zone blocking unit. And this may be a good chance, despite the game being preseason, for Wink's D to wreak some havoc and build confidence.
On the other side, New England does have some real quality and quantity on defense - at all levels, really - and this will a good test for the offense.
;)
Eric, That may be the best pre-season write-up I have ever read
When Jones throws the ball inaccurately...
"The WR probably ran the wrong route, it's early QB/WR not on the same page yet"
When Jones holds the ball forever and gets sacked...
"The OL sucks..."
What other excuses for Daniel Jones can we expect to hear tomorrow night is what I want to know.
I'm watching Giants preseason to watch Daniel Jones vs Tyrod Taylor and PLEASE for the lojlve of God don't tell me how different it is because Tyrod is playing vs 2nd stringers because he's playing with 2nd stringers around him too!!! If Tyrod is clearly better I pray the coaches give him 1st team reps as soon as next weeks practice.
One question about the defense that I think may be flying under the radar:
Can the Giants stop the run? Last year the team was pathetic.
Early returns, but read Sy’s camp reports. Very positive on Dex at NT, Martinez return being a difference maker, Ellis and N Williams contributions against the run.

for Mitch Trubisky. It came down to Steelers or Giants.
Having Trubisky here would have presented the possibility of a strong controversy, for sure, and Mara had to know it. Not because anyone thinks Trubisky is all that great, but he is in his prime years and his desire to start now would have been on the table for all to see.
Tomlin said yesterday that Trubisky has the Steelers' starting job, if season started today.
I’m not sold on the quality of the receiving targets on this team
Same for me. Shepard might be our best WR. Reports on Golladay are sad. Will Toney drop passes, and will we try to force open field plays for him (a la Sinorice Moss)?
W Robinson sounds good, but his catch radius is pretty small, that doesn't match well with an inaccurate passer.
I think all the fans just want to get started and find out where the new strengths and lingering weaknesses are.
My hopes are for at least an average o-line, reliable WR group even if Golladay doesn’t step up, and some good production from Barkley and Breida. As for Jones, show improvement early or get out of the way and let Taylor show us what the offense really has.
As to the defense, I don’t know what to expect except some real excitement. Pressure! 50-yard pass plays but a lot of forced turnovers and sacks.
Let’s go!

And if you've read the training camp notes on the Steeler side, it appears as if Rudolph has had the best success so far. So in reality it should be his job to lose.
Giants know what the limitations are with both Jones and Taylor. Jones flat out has more to offer. So does Mitch right now. Although Rudolph is still young and has room to improve. I actually feel his game complements well with the Matt Canada offense. We'll see.

Wink's defensive style is the type that will make it hard for outside zone. While the OL is likely being taught to "run on a track" the fact that there isn't a consistent 5/7-1-3-5/7 makes it hard to pick up LBs that will show up in unexpected spots. Also, a NT gives the D an unpredictable presence for the IOL forcing the PSOG to account for the PSILB which should help eliminate cutback lanes.

they have said all the right things because he was their best option at the time and for right now still is. I would not be surprised jf Taylor outplays him that he gets the nod..
Do i think its game 1? probably not, but i dont think Daboll will be afraid to go with the guy he feels gives him the best chance to win..
I think if Jones really struggles during the preason and Taylor lights it up, there is going to be calls for Jones to be benched..This isnt Mike Glennon backing him up, Taylor can play
I agree with your assessments. I am focusing on the coaching,
OL and front 7. The future is bright if those things are in order or at least very strong signs.
Not worrying about Jones. I am expecting a drafted QB here in 2023. If they have a better than expected season and Jones is a big part of it then we will see how JS addresses at that point.
Like everyone, I am excited to see Giants Football, even if it's only pre-season game 1. I will be really intrigued by the OL and DL play. Just want to see some holes open in the running game and some progress in pass protection.
DL and pass rush to include Thibs' play is really where I hope to see some explosive action.
I can't recall when the last time I was this excited for Pre-Season Game 1. The team just has a new feel to it.

So happy to see the power of positive thinking at work!
Can't get separation. What a waste of money. Another DG mistake.
I wouldn't say he is "useless" but you're paying $72 million for a guy who doesn't look more productive than a mid-tier player (at least since he's been here).
RE: I dont think Daboll will be forced to atart Jones
to get spanked tomorrow night. The offense doesn’t look to me like it’s ready to actually play a game. The defense, on the other hand, we should get a good gauge on where they are.
I wouldn't lose sleep over KG. I'd bet my next paycheck on him being a cap casualty next offseason.
The problem with Golladay is that there is a niche role for him in the offense with contested catches and the deep ball, but no contingency plans should he go down, which is quite likely.
72 million for a WR who can't get separation is as close to useless as
it gets. It's like paying a linebacker who can't tackle 72 million.
Or better yet a DB that doesn't have the speed or quickness to cover a WR for 72 million.
This is a major reason why we stink. Overpaying for non productive players. One thing to overpay for a productive player it's entirely different to grossly overpay for a nonproductive player.
So yes KG is for all practical purposes useless, let him prove me wrong and I hope he does!

Maybe Golladay’s replacement may be found among Johnson, Doss, or Kemp. Giants gotta get lucky one of these days.
can still be useful if he can catch high balls to move the chains and score in the red zone. If KG does these things consistently, he'll help us win games. Maybe not $72 million worth of games, but one can dream...
Sigh. thanks.
Pipe down smart ass. ;)

When 90.Cal posts, it is a pre-Jones rant

One thing, even among those counting on DJ to be effective in 2022 recognize is this, "But time is the one thing Jones no longer has."

The fact that our offense has been practicing against Wink every day should help this offense immensely in reading and reacting to other opponents.

Iron also crushed pebbles. We will see which one our offense is
And last year it took 5 weeks for the defense to remember to play defense!
I will be happy with better....prefer good, but better is good enough for now.
