it gets. It's like paying a linebacker who can't tackle 72 million.

Or better yet a DB that doesn't have the speed or quickness to cover a WR for 72 million.

This is a major reason why we stink. Overpaying for non productive players. One thing to overpay for a productive player it's entirely different to grossly overpay for a nonproductive player.

So yes KG is for all practical purposes useless, let him prove me wrong and I hope he does!

That signing was always a surprise. Most blamed Dave but the Giants hired O'Brien in 2021 and he was he was head of player personnel for 4 years in Detroit. Judge worked with O'Brien with the Pats for years so I always felt this was a big Judge signing.

That fact JS got rid of O'Brien after one year with the Giants suggests that more than JS was not happy with him imv.
Signing Golladay was anything but a surprise. Gettleman
chick310 : 8/11/2022 7:56 am : link
was reported interested in trading for him before the trade deadline the fall before.

Then Giants brass was about as loud as possible from the day the prior season ended about getting Jones playmakers on offense, and Golladay was one of the few big WRs left in free agency after several others were re-signed or fanchised.

No surprise.

Surprise because of his injury history and really he never had that great of performance imv justifying the contract.

You want to put it all on Dave go ahead. Judge was the HC in 2020 and he worked with O'Brien for five years as he did with Patricia and others in Detroit.

O'Brien came in 2021. So yes Dave looked into trading for him. I look a little deeper and see Judge making the big push in 2020 and closing in 2021.

I am glad Dave is gone but unfortunately I don't have the same DG derangement syndrome some have.

Not sure why the pivot. The NY Giants showed interest in Golladay well before he was signed, and just rekindled it the following offseason. There was simply no surprise as you stated.

You may be surprised at the bad contract and want to spread the blame around, but neither had anything to do with what I posted to you.

I presented that Judge was the HC in 2020 and yes that was the year the Giants showed interested in a trade. I pointed all this out and the connections.

Sorry, I think this above your scope of understanding. I'm moving on. Have a good one.
Move on all you want Lines, but it wasn't a surprise that Golladay

was targeted/signed by the Giants as you flat out inferred.

Correct. Moving for KG was completely telegraphed.

I would love to play Gettleman in poker because he would have been the easiest read at the table. Very predictable as a GM.

Correct, in fact there was a report that the Giants were close to acquiring him at the trade deadline the season before.

Judge was the HC. Patricia was the HC in Detroit. O'Brien was still high up in the Detroit FO and Bob Quinn (Detroit GM) who hired both Patricia and O'Brien were still present in 2020. Judge worked with all involved for years. O'Brien was in the Giants FO to start FA 2021.

I may be wrong. It clearly shows a strong Galloday/DG connection.

can still be useful if he can catch high balls to move the chains and score in the red zone. If KG does these things consistently, he'll help us win games. Maybe not $72 million worth of games, but one can dream...

Or slants and hitches.

Now I know the Jones haters like to blame him, but isn't it likely he has been coached poorly, to avoid "mistakes" by the likes of Garrett and Judge?

So why do you continue to push the theme that it was a surprise the Giants pursued and signed Golladay?

You seem to be the only one.

I am surprised because he is not a elite WR. At best he is a solid 2 and it was not the big problem that impacted the Giants.

I am not surprised that some still have the DGDS when Judge had a huge impact on pushing this signing. The fact that bw joined in on that one almost guarantees it.
There should have been no surprise. He was a WR that had
chick310 : 8/11/2022 1:22 pm : link
a good frame and a strong QB throwing to him in Detroit so he had decent stats, but he had red flags with attitude and injuries. DG was desperate to find Jones help and therefore restructured several other bad contracts just to fit Golladay in.

Gettleman and maybe every other single person in that front office may have wanted him. No argument. Not sure why you are trying so hard to escape the fact that DG tried to trade for him once and then unsuprisingly signed him later to that awful contract.

It was more like a fait accompli that he was signed. And that it hasn't worked out well.

His best season was 2019. I heard that same argument about the strong QB. I think bw said the same thing about having a HOF QB throwing him open. Well Stafford missed half that season and the Lions were 3-12-1. Galladay did have 5 100 plus yard games of which 3 were with backup QB's.

Experience tells me 3-12-1 teams are not very good. Probably a lot of blow outs or teams playing prevent since they are way up.

Since this was a signing that they paid a lot for I took the time to look at this player closely which was why I was surprised by the signing.

I think Judge had a huge say in personnel for 20/21 which was not all bad. Jackson is a good player and the drafts were actually much better. The Galladay signing was the biggest negative on him imv.

So you’re surprised that poor evaluators of talent and bad decision
chick310 : 8/11/2022 1:44 pm : link
makers signed a WR to a bad deal that you wouldn’t have?

That is surprising.
