1:10 pm EST start at Citi Field
Mets have won the season series against the Reds already (4-1). Today is the last game of the series as well as the season against the Redlegs. Tomorrow's an off-day. Hopefully Taijuan Walker responds positively to his previous start.

Mets' & Reds' Starting Lineups and Starting Pitchers for today - 8/10/22 - (

He texted me after Thor's debut and said "The Phillies are interested in deGrom to join Wheeler and Thor in Philly"
I have to admit, that was pretty funny, though the thought made me nauseous
Tell him they can have Gsellman instead
Tim McCarver is my all-time favorite baseball television announcer! I learned the never make the first or third out at third base mantra from him! I miss those days and those teams. Looks like we've got something cooking now for this generation of fans though with the team and the announcers now too :-)

they were fantastic. Grew up on them on WWOR. They are the voice of my childhood, as are Harry Caray/Steve Stone. Would always catch afternoon Cubs games on WGN when I’d get home from school, or on a hot summer afternoon when I wanted to come inside and get out of the heat

I can’t say I miss many of the teams other than for nostalgia reasons. Was born in 1980, so too young for 86. Loved HoJo. My favorite growing up. (I have a friend of a friend who worked for STL Mets and the Mets organization has an in person draft, where they will allow proxies. I told him I would love to for HoJo, so trying for that). Anyway, can’t say I miss the likes of teams starting the Jeff McKnights, Tim Bogars, and Chico Walkers of the world

I was born in '77 and lived in Flushing. I remember watching my cartoons and stumbling onto the Mets on Channel 9, lol. My mom already had bought me a Mets jacket, so that was my team. I watched casually after that not knowing much, but didn't really start to understand anything until late 85, and I've been a fan ever since.
Hubie Brooks Reflects On His Time With The Mets - ( New Window )
Ruf is only under contract next year. Which is fine. By 2024, those ABs will belong to Vientos/Alvarez
Canha and Escobar will both be heading into their final years so at somewhat reasonable prices they (or Ruf) could get traded.
or they could trade half the farm for Ohtani.
i think the good thing is there's competition and the best guys will get to play.
Quote:
something unforeseen big Vog should be a Met for at least 2 more seasons. Ruf, is also under control for 2 more but I could see them moving on towards Vientos after the season.

Leaving 3 million on the table would be pretty wild for a guy who has made 6.25 total
I can't remember having this much fun watching them.
hope it lasts and they ride this wave.
Alonso is 32nd.

Club option for 2024. Ruf will turn 38 that year but at 3.5 million don't rule out his contract still being a relative bargain.
So far Mets deadline trades are an A++

Gotcha. Didn’t realize the team option
“ Monster year coming from Lindor. Top 10 MVP finish, 5ish fWAR #Mets”
Just stating it as a possibility, lol. Wild that that's all he's made as a major leaguer when he's been around forever.

My money but 8 seasons 6.25 million they would have to chop my arm off to walk away from 3 million next year lol

He’s had quite the career arc. Went to Korea thinking he was done in the bigs and now here we are. Pretty cool
Announcers are bad..but the tech stack is worse..
No app to watch on my phone (eg. I watched whole game on my phone today, most of last nights prob 80% overall this season), no ability to pause or rewind..it's just brutal
This is going to suck

I have a very strong feeling Naquin is the backup plan to Nimmo. With Boras in the picture I think it will be more difficult to sign Nimmo. Also, Nimmo's OBP has dropped significantly--maybe because Boras is in his ear about driving the ball more.
A Naquin/Ruf platoon or semi-platoon probably gives you same or more production than Nimmo. Naquin is also a good fielder and supposedly has a cannon for an arm. So he could take over in RF and Marte in CF.
Opens more ABs potentially for Vientos at DH with Ruf playing some LF.
Love Nimmo, and want to keep him. But they do have options if he prices himself out and gets some insane offer somewhere else

Not out of the question at all. I think the Mets are going to have their price with Nimmo and if he wants top dollar he's going to be elsewhere. Either of Canha and McNeil can bat leadoff too (in fact both are probably better suited there than in run producing spots middle of the order).
There is no replacement for Nimmo. He is a top 25 player in the sport, the best CF in the NL, and it would be a DEVASTATING loss if he wasnt brought back.
Ill have faith he will be a Cohen priority and will be retained until he's not.
deGrom (if healthy), Diaz, and Nimmo are must signs.
deGrom literally said this year that after he opts out he hopes to sign a new contract with the Mets.
Do you know who their run has been against? 10-0 vs Pitt, Wash, and Miami. 2-1 vs Atl
Its like the Braves run from June-All Star Break. Playing really bad teams

I don’t believe I saw a single person here “jumping to justify getting rid of or replacing Nimmo.” Just discussing backup plans if he does leave. Huge difference.

but don’t think Degrom wants to be here. Would be very surprised if he is.

Very very anxious about this series... Need to take 2/3 and squash their run a bit

I mean, according to Fangraphs he has been the 3rd best CFer in baseball this year behind only Judge and Trout...so idk
"ranking" is a superficial fan thing that has no bearing on anything.
Springer ($25mx6) and Marte ($19.5mx4) are the 2 recent contract comps that apply to Nimmo. If someone gives him Springer money he's gone, if he's willing to sign for closer to Marte money with a 5th year he'll probably stay. The mets had this exact song and dance play out with Conforto/Boras where they offered him the latter but he wanted the former and thankfully they held the line, didn't get sentimental, and went their separate ways (which brought us a better player in Marte at a lower price).
whichever way things go the mets have some internal alternatives (as vanzetti pointed out) and they will spend money on talent. as great as it would be to bring back nimmo they just can't be overly sentimental and overpay. they have multiple pitchers they need to extend just as badly if not moreso. they need to get alonso extended too and that's going to be $200m+.

When there are 4-5 center fielders better in AL and you could probably argue Reynolds’s and Harris are more dynamic offensive players. And I love nimmo - I just don’t know why we rank him based upon league.

Buxton has had almost the same season as nimmo and he just extended on a 7x100m (1 year ahead of UFA). like Nimmo he's had problems staying healthy. that's another very relevant comp. Nimmo should come in higher than that around 5x20m+ since he will reach the open market but if Boras finds another team willing to overpay on the open market (which he sometimes does) he may end up elsewhere.
the LAD let Seager walk last year. and Scherzer. and things are still going pretty good for them because they still kept the money on the field and added Freeman. someone good will take cohen's $ if Nimmo doesn't.
What evidence do you have of that? Just because he's opting out? That's silly. It seems obvious he gave the Coupons a discount and Jake knows he doesn't have to do that with Uncle Steve and it's no secret what Max was given.
I would guess that Jake and Cohen both want to work something out. Where else would Jake want to go and what other team will be able to afford him?
He's an east coast guy (from FL, grew up about 2 hrs from PSL), so I doubt he'll want to go to LA (where his family would rarely see him). And I think he's smarter than Thor and knows, especially now, the grass isn't greener anywhere else.
Very nice. So glad he's doing well. Was pretty concerned for a while, with his under performance and such a long contract.
So they traded away 7.5 WAR to get 4.6 WAR and 1.7 WAR (Carrasco)and paid 350 million for the privilege of doing so

Rosario and Gimenez are at 6 fWAR, Lindor and Carrasco 7.2
I hope Steve Cohen throws as much money at talented players as he possibly can. I've waited years for the Mets to be in a position to do so.
Here is one
